Ravens sign TE Dallas Clark

Actually I just realized that if we got Fitz and Johnson, mine would technically be the third wish making God a genie.

Fingers crossed.

I also realized that lol, well at least we get 1 of the 2!

Actually now I'm just imagining the "Creation of Adam" painting with a genie reaching out to touch fingers with Adam.

It's kind of sad, that after all the seasons Joe played with the Ravens, this one might be the first pre-season, when we actually are paying attention to the mid- and short-range passing game (atleast judging by the practices we run).

Cam's system, that always wanted to go deep or run the ball in all situations, was not suited for a team that has a slightly above average Oline (sometimes). And yet Cam stuck with it, which OF COURSE didn't work well against teams that could create pressure up front and stop the run effectively (aka Texans).

Hopefully Caldwells influence and the additions we made to the roster, which do have Jim's fingerprints all over them, will allow Joe to receive playcalling, that doesn't require him to stand in the pocket and wait for ages until his receivers get open miles away. -_- Seriously Cam. Seriously.

The middle of the field = The Baltimore Ravens revolutionary new discovery :)

He's a local UDFA that ran a fast 40 time.  Another overrated guy.  I think he can be good, but he's still overrated right now.

potential. that is all. and theres nothing wrong with being excited about a local product with loads of potential. not to mention the kid is very fast for a TE, and is tough as nails. not sure how his hands are, but he sounds like he could be the real deal by year 2 or 3

What's this "middle of the field" you speak of? My Cam Cameron coaches guidebook is suggesting we run an end around and if we absolutely have to pass to only send the wr's on streaks.

I bet Joe is happier than a pig in poop that Dallas and Brandon are in camp.

Are pigs in poop really happy or are they just hungry as poop?

I was hoping for this signing. I'm glad we made the signing, too. The way I look at it, we wanted to bring in Shiancoe when Pitta and Dickson were both 100%. Shiancoe was brought in to be the 3rd guy, or for us to have a deep roster. We can't have too many good guys. I think for this year we should just forget who everyone is, how old they are, what their contract looks like and just

may the best man win.

If that's Dickson, great. If it's Clark, great. If it's Shiancoe, great. But, someone is going to be getting the majority of the snaps, and it'll also keep our guys fresh. Dallas Clark is a heck of a player, who came into the league the same time that Anquan Boldin did.

Same thing for Brandon and the receivers: may the best men win.

The overrating of Matt Furstenburg is unreal. Just because he went to Maryland, doesn't mean he's an NFL calibur tight end. Sweet, he had a combined less than 60 career catches in college with 5 touchdowns. People need to chill out with thinking he's the next Tony Gonzalez. This is the Ravens, a good team, unlike the Terps.

You're oblivious to the reasons people like him. Are you aware of his athletic ability, blocking prowess, and the God-awful quarterback play Maryland has seen in recent years?

Moreover, I haven't seen anyone saying he's going to be like Gonzalez. He has a high ceiling though, and many people can see that.

Tight end Dallas Clark practiced with the Ravens for the first time and immediately made a favorable impression. With Thursday's preseason game looming, it was a light practice in terms of competitiveness, but Clark had three touchdowns inside the 20, including one on the first pass quarterback Joe Flacco threw in a red-zone drill. On the second touchdown, Clark ran a sharp jerk route then faded toward the uprights to catch a touch pass from Flacco. On the third, he made an aaaaaaah-inspiring one-handed catch. It was just one practice, but Clark looked like he still has something to give, especially down near the goal line.

This is our "Boldin" that everyone's been looking for. (And by Boldin, I mean someone slower but physical with good hands. And by that, I mean a tight end.)

i don't think dallas can take so many hits these days. But he will catch it if you throw it to him.

If he can stay healthy, I think he can do a lot of the same things that Pitta did for us. It will take sometime for him to form a rapport with Joe, but he will be used in a similar manner.

He might lessen the blow of Pitta's loss, but I don't expect him to replicate Pitta's stats from last year. I really hope he remains injury free.

Such a shame but our season was also "over" about 5 different times last year. Webb gone for the year, Suggs way below 100% when he got back, Ray was "done for the year". Ellerbe wouldn't be the $35 Mil man he is now if Ray didn't go down. Jimmy Smith and Graham wouldn't have stepped their games up as much as they did if Webb didn't go down. Next man up, nobody is irreplaceable and last year proved that.

Dallas Clark anyone? At least he's more of a pure pass catching TE like pitta

From the day Pitta went down lol. Best possible replacement for Pitta's skill set, can't wait to see him build some chemistry out there with Flacco and become one of his new safety nets.

Why lol? He's everything Dickson isn't (experienced, tough, sure-handed, a major threat in the red zone)

In fairness to Dickson, all of his TD catches in 2011 were from inside the opposing 20.  He's definitely a threat in the redzone, and we've seen him make those tight catches in traffic for TDs.

The only way I could see Clark taking number 1 on the depth chart would be if Ed's injury were more serious than we thought.

At his peak, he was much greater than Dickson might ever be. However, I still think we need to give Dickson every chance to be our number one this year. Clark is far from a permanent solution, and we need to see what our future options are. If Dickson fails to be what we need over the first third of the season, or so, replace him for the year. We need to know if he's an option before we hope for Pitta to return as Pitta or gamble on a draft pick.

I would definitely agree, if this weren't Dickson's fourth year (insinuation being that Dickson has been given plenty of opportunities to be the guy, but has -- ahem -- dropped the ball)...I think we should just let him and Clark fight it out, and the best man can be our main guy this season til Pitta comes back.
