Ravens sign TE Dallas Clark

222 posts in this topic

Aaron Wilson ‏@RavensInsider

There is mutual interest between veteran tight end Dallas Clark and the Ravens, according to league sources. No deal at this time

Interesting once again.  I'm not sure how we fit all of these guys on our team at this point.

This really wouldn't make things look good for Furstenburg. He would have to overtake Shiancoe or Clark, who we obviously like if we're signing them.

he's better then VS. He has been an elite TE in the past and does NOT DROP catches and runs great routes. He also is one tough SOB. IM all for it.

I doubt it; I mean, I saw that Tweet, earlier, but, I didn't think of the Ravens, at all. If anything, the team will give him a 3-week "tryout" to see if he either has something left or does a better job than Matt Furstenberg, at least.

If Baltimore really, really wanted Clark, they would have added him once Pitta went down (in addition to signing Shiancoe). I wanted for the Ravens to give Dallas Clark a look, back then; however, it doesn't seem like he has much left in the tank to secure a roster spot. But, we'll have to wait-and-see...

Just because the Ravens signed Shiancoe, doesn't mean he stays on the team. He's only being paid the veteran minimum.

That said, Furstenberg may, indeed, be the eventual odd man out if Clark is signed.

Just saw the same being reported on RotoWorld.

Along with this additional info:

ESPN's Adam Schefter suggested earlier in the day on Twitter that Clark "could get a deal done this week." The Ravens are his likeliest landing spot. Baltimore has become awfully thin at tight end and slot receiver, losing Anquan Boldin (trade) and Dennis Pitta (hip) since last year, and Deonte Thompson to an ankle injury in the preseason opener. Clark is more slot receiver than tight end

Interesting how they think Clark could fit in at slot WR.

This also really has me thinking that Thompson is going to miss some time in the regular season because of his ankle.

Because now we're stockpiling every half decent slot WR we can find. Must not be sold on Doss either. And when has David Reed ever been able to stay healthy? So...here we are, scrambling to find guys (not just 1) who can play slot for us.

I'd be ok with this. You can never have too many weapons but I'm confident in the group we have now.

Oh well.

I'd rather have him over Lloyd lol.

We could always PS Furstenburg if it came to that.

If this happens, I really think Jim Caldwell has a lot to do with it - like I said earlier, probably only Peyton knows both Stoke and Clark better at this point in their careers.

All this interest in veteran TE for depth and I still haven't heard anything about Todd Heap...

Heap's done. Injuries have ended his career.

Sad too, he might've been a pernerrial pro bowler if he had a good QB his whole career.

Heap would hurt himself getting to the phone if Ozzie called.  I'll always respect the guy, but he's done.

It'd take that long ;)

If we sign dallas, i think i'll be a lot more confident. He was productive enough last year. he didn't drop much. Him and Joe will work it out. infact if you check out his recent seasons if he had stayed healthy he would have had stats similar to pittas last year.

hes a heck of  a player if he remains healthy. i don't know why we bothered with VS with clark out there.

I really doubt Shiancoe stays if we sign Clark. They probably didn't like what they saw in the first preseason game.

It's either that or Dickson's injury is a lot more serious than we thought

Well, on the bright side, at least Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh are not celebrating over a meaningless 44-16 win in the preseason. But, most importantly, they realize that the wide receiver and tight end positions are the biggest flaw on this team.

Either way, competition is good. If the young-and-inexperienced receiver options aren't cutting it, then why not have the old(er)-and-experienced talent either push them (to get better) or maybe even take their spots.

Come September, there will be many cuts at these 2 positions; in fact, none of these veterans might even make the team. All we know is that only Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones and Ed Dickson are the ones that are safe and will be on this team...

I always thought he was destined for the practice squad anyway. I could see him as a mid year call up when some guys start to go on IR.

If they sign him and cut  Furstenberg, they are making a huge mistake

I like this,  just not at the cost of matt

I mean I like what I've read about him and seen from him, especially that catch in the TB game, but I don't really understand the hype around him.

Can somebody explain?

Furstenburg can be put on the practice squad.  Or IRed.  There's lots of ways to keep players.

He's a local UDFA that ran a fast 40 time.  Another overrated guy.  I think he can be good, but he's still overrated right now.

People here like to bash Terps and say their overrated anyway.  Matt is a beast.

everyone wanted to kill Ozzie when he drafted Torrey. saying he had small hands, etc
