Duh dude. There is a big difference between Arod ruling the QB elite for years and Flacco going on a great playoff run, in terms of how their contracts are looked at, but it is rightfully so. Its not some bias. I think Flacco will play up to his potential and earn his contract but no matter how great the run was it does not automatically validate his contract by itself. The Ravens had no choice but to pay him that amount. What he makes this year isn't all that much but the years after when it rises to Elite QB level of course he will have to grow into his contract. Both of these guys are getting different attention for a reason.

Not discounting or comparing Rodgers body of work, Flacco's worth was not determined by last year's playoff run alone. He's showed consistency in growth from Day 1 and by all indications has not hit his ceiling. Lord only knows what he may have accomplished the previous years with better game planning/play calling. As it is he guided this Team into the post season for 5 straight years and to what should have been 2 straight SB appearances.  So to say "he will have to grow into his contract", for me, is not a true statement. I think he has already risen to the so called "elite QB level".

The Ravens have done well in the Flacco era. He has put Big $$$$$ in many pockets, just ask John.

He will probally clear about half of the dollars. That will buy a lot of, well ......, anything.

Joe will save some and spend a little. A million here, a million there.

He and his family are set for life. A nice retirement. He earned and deserved it. Nice guys finish first.

What they will be paying him the next few years will be worth it for his ceiling bro. He can't just stop growing and expect be able to play up to the contract. He still has a ways to go in terms of timing and reading the defense.

The Ravens had no choice? Interesting, I wasn't aware that the Packers had a choice to pay Rodgers less. How nice of them to give him more money than they had to. I'm sure Rodgers' agent told them "Just pay my client whatever you feel like".

You are missing the point completely, which is that the Packers are paying Arod exactly what was coming to him as the best QB in the league by far. Flacco on the other hand was not the best QB when he got his historic deal but I see it as paying for what he will become(which is a totally complete and elite QB) down the road as well as having to shell out because of the SB run.

Rodgers is just so much better and ahead of the rest of the QBs(including Flacco). No one who knows football would question him taking up cap because he can make the guys around him better than anyone else in the league aside from Peyton and Brady and they are near their end(and his arm is better overall then both of theirs). We know he is already worth it because the has a top 5 power arm, accurate arm,and reading ability and timing. The Packers aren't even that weaker because of his contract yet. They have young guys on the come up who cost little.

Exactly what I was trying to articulate earlier.

I totally agree he has room for improvement and I don't doubt that he will, especially with a real OC. But, he is being paid his market value as things stand, no need to "play up......".

Right now this year sure, but not the years after. That is the big "elite,no excuses, make WRs big money in FA" salary. Flacco is not there yet in the latter two. He has to improve and play up to that salary next year and the years after. He has the best contract for a guy like him because he will likely improve and play to value every year until restructure.

When I look around the league the only quarterback that I think is better than Joe is Aaron Rogers. We are lucky to have Joe. He doesn't need to hype everything under the sun. He is a class act. I feel sorry for the 49er fans. I personally would be embarrassed to have Colin Kaepernick. Matt Shaub and Matt Ryan will never be the clutch winning quarterback that Joe is. As for Romo, that was Jerry being Jerry. (still trying to just buy and winning season without the work)

Good game or bad game, I will still root for Joe and my Ravens.

100% sure you watch more ESPN than me considering I don't at all. Also that's exactly what I'm talking about,Ravens fans thinking Flacco is the almighty and is at the top of the league in every aspect of being a QB. He has a long ways to go in a few very important areas and I think his contract elevates according to what they expect from him as an overall player, not just achievements. If you think he has already achieved the latter two qualifications for the huge salary he will be getting next few years, then we have nothing more to discuss, Mr. Simpson. Agree to disagree.

He will be have a better season than Brees and Brady in terms of success but in terms of pure skill, no not yet. His mental ability still has so much room to grow before he is in those guys league as a complete QB.

Never count Brady and Brees out, especially with Payton back in town.

That's fine. Just to qualify my point; There are no set criteria or need for Joe to be "top of the league" or to fit the sickeningly overused term "elite". He is being paid according to his worth to his Team and the market price for that worth at the time he signed his contract. Period.

And bye the bye...... I'm a Ravens fan and I don't think Joe is "almighty", or "at the top of the league", nor do I care. He's the Raven's QB and does a pretty decent job. That's good enough for me to justify paying him to stay around for a while.

Brees, P. Manning and Brady are on their downhill. Joe is only going to get better.

Well yeah he is the greatest Ravens QB of all time(already lol) but my point was his play will only fit his salary if he continues to improve. This year's salary is fine, but next year and after he should be playing at the same level he did during our recent SB run all year around. I think the original offer was fine but he took a shot(a pretty good one) and made it count. That was more of his worth in regards to talent. The new deal is more about him becoming one of the best of the best in light of him becoming a champion as well as having leverage(off the field) in negotiations.
