Ravens sign WR Brandon Stokley

What this really tells me is that we have several guys on this roster that have been in the NFL a season or two and the FO is unhappy with their progress.  I have to believe that unless one of the young guys really shows something this year, WR is going to be high on our list of priorities come draft time.

I agree with this. I think WR will be a top need next off-season.

I never said Torrey was bad Skip Bayless don't put false words in my mouth. I said we need someone else who can catch the ball reliably. You can't tell me that guy is Jacoby. Yea he made 2 great catches last year. Never really a factor most of the playoffs out side of those 2 catches and returning kicks.

Well Stephen A, I think what you said is "We need a burner who can actually catch and can play for a few more years" and that ain't what we need. What's needed are reliable guys to run the routes underneath, like Pitta, and now Brandon. Who knows, maybe Doss, Dickson and Shiancoe step up as well.

While Jacoby may not prove to be a true # 2, with his speed he's certainly proven he is fine coming in and stretching the field along with Torrey.

I don't know. I thought we could sign someone like Dallas Clark if this was about Dennis and Ed Dickson going down. Or Todd Heap. If we need Red Zone help, how about Todd Heap?

I'm going to take this as a Deonte Thompson replacement. Deonte Thompson really messed up his foot badly, or something. But if anyhting that just pushes LaQuan further down the picture. I really don't like this signing right now. If this was right after the third preseason game, and not the first...then yeah.

Also, I'd like to see Tandon Doss in a starting role next preseason game. Play more than a few series. Maybe LaQuan williams.

I really, really, really don't want to see:

Torrey Smith
Ray Rice
Jacoby Jones
Visanthe Shiancoe
Brandon Stokley

as Flacco's top 5 targets next year.

Trade a 3rd rounder for Steve smith.

The coaches see a lot more and know a lot more than we do about any of these guys, if none of them are showing that they are capable of stepping up in a consistent way, then who are we to say they are wrong for wanting to bring in some veteran help if we need it.  We only see a few live practices a year and read tweets and reports from the sections of practices that beat writers are able to witness, but none of that is the whole story.  We don't see every minute of every practice and get to dissect and break down each player's practice film to truly evaluate him.  The coaches do.

Here's the problem. It's not the coaches bringing in veteran help. It's the front office, and they do it every year. Tandon Doss was looked at once, he was thrown to once and the cornerback was all over him, the ball too high, it was raining the gulf of mexico out there...

Okay, our front office looks at practices too. Granted. I'd just like these guys to play in more game situations. This means they will play in less game situations. That's all.

I don't think Ozzie would be signing Stokley if Harbaugh wasn't on board.

Like I said before, I'd be okay with signing Brandon Stokley on September 1st or something. But right now, this is going to kill all of Tandon Doss' confidence. All of it.

Why in the world would the  Carolina Panthers want to trade Steve Smith? I mean, how would that benefit them? It's not like they have a lot behind him to safely trade him. I don't mind people having different opinions but give me a reason to buy in. I just can't buy in when someone arbitrarily says to trade a 3rd round pick for Steve Smith without a reason why the Panthers would even make that trade. Right now, the  idea sounds preposterous.

Or this could completely motivate him to go out there and make sure Stokley doesn't take his job.

Well, for one, Stokley might not have been around that long. Second, if Tandon Doss is threatened by Stokley that much then Stokley or not his confidence is shot.

Competitors want to compete. If he doesn't want to compete and feels threatened by this signing then I don't know what to say except he probably would've failed regardless if he's dependent on others. You can't be dependent on others for your success. You have to take it.

If Stokely actually wins the number 2/3 spot ( the slot), we better just cut Doss. If you can't beat a 37 year old in your 3rd year, you don't deserve a spot on this squad...

Tandon's hands killed his confidence. Ill be shocked if we keep Doss if Brandon is ahead of him on depth chart

I disagree.  Stokley is not an every down player.  It's not like Stokley winning the battle means Doss isn't going to play at all.  He's still going to see extensive action.  I would not trust anybody on the lower ranks of the depth chart to take that many snaps.  They've invested a lot of time into Doss with the first team.  They aren't going to turn around and cut him a few weeks later.  It'd be a disappointment, but not to the extent that Doss isn't a member of this team.

We've had injuries in the past to guys like Boldin and Doss still didn't get on the field. He needs to step up or get out, everyone praises him for his practice hands but he can't get it going in games

I think it's way too early to write him off.  It was one game with very limited action.  Give it the next 2 weeks.  I'm still 100% confident that Doss will be a member of this roster.  There's no one in the lower ranks of the depth chart that is any better.

Doss is making the team. He's prob going to be one of those guys who doesn't preform during preseason, but finds his groove during the regular season(see Torrey Smith).

I don't know about that but we'll see. I do believe he makes the team but his confidence is what concerns me. Some guys respond well to adversity and some don't. I fear he might just respond well but that remains to be seen. Can't write the guy off yet.

I think Doss becomes an option on the outside actually,
He's big and not slow. He's got average speed to compliment a burner and a possession WR. I actually think our 3 WR set will consist of

Torrey
Doss
Stokley

Which isn't bad at all IMO

Slot production is what the offense is missing. That is what Stokley does. I would like to see more out of the young guys, but I can't really complain.

It COULD for all of our young receivers. However I think the newly added competition will cause Doss, Williams, Brown and every other receiver not named Torrey or Jacoby to work harder and BUILD confidence over the next 3 weeks. Time will tell...

I like it that lineup.  Anyone know his number yet?
