Ravens sign WR Brandon Stokley

355 posts in this topic

Damn that was a quick post, way to be on top of things.

I was 8 minutes behind lol.  I noticed it was in the free agency thread as well, but it's probably deserving of it's own thread.  At least if we sign someone, we got a nice, classy vet.

This proves the Ravens ain't too impressed with what we have after Torrey . Jacoby at #2 doesn't look like a winner either . He's great for long passes , but he seems to be a poor route runner . And the Flacco pick in Tampa was a lot On him . Don't give me this nonsense I've heard that Joe threw the ball late . It was a comeback Route that Jacoby, well , didn't come back to .

To me, this is weird.

we don't have receivers that has the hands or experience to stay productive in mid-field.    guys that can keep the chain moving during traffic

shiancoe/stokley kind of fit that description. ...i suppose

Hmm, Stokley is 37. Is he really that much better than our unproven talent at this stage of his carreer? Was he ever all that great? He is a bit of journeyman.

I don't know if there's a receiver more washed up and over the hill than Brandon Stokley.  What a waste of money.  At this point in his career we know what Stokley is, I'd much rather use a roster spot on a young guy who at least has upside.

We would have been better off signing TO.

Stokley is a slot receiver with good, reliable hands that can move the chains.  He's not going to light the world on fire, but he'll be a very productive rotational player in the slot.  While it's not his strong suit anymore, he's still able to stretch the field a bit.  His main value comes in his locker room presence.  He's one of the classiest players in the game today, and will be a great mentor for some of our young receivers.

This isn't a move that's sexy per se, but it's a move that will pay dividends.

i think we'll be drafting WR/TEs @ 1st/2nd round.   Thoughts? lol

well obviously it'll be a priority.  It really depends how things shake out.

If Stokley has better stats than Kelley Washington did a few years ago, I would be very surprised.

I surprisingly really like this signing.

Thank god we have Caldwell, if we still had Cam we'd be seeing Stokley running streaks lol

Meh..I don't trust Ozzie when it comes to wide receivers.

Not liking it? I'm not expecting a lot from him, but I do like the move. He could at least provide competition.

When I got the text alert I initially read it as Brandon Lloyd and thought some of the board crazies had gotten their way.

Stokley totaled 45 catches for 544 yards last year, with 5 TD's.  Considering he had Thomas and Decker next to him as well, those are pretty good numbers.  I know they had a weak running game, but still impressive nonetheless.

How doesn't it make sense? I'm just curious what you're thinking.

Thompson's hurt, and possibly inadequate. Doss and Jacoby also look fairly inadequate.

He's got solid hands and can run good routes.

I like it
