News flash - the sky is not falling

30 posts in this topic

I'm usually a reasonable and optimistic guy and all, who is easygoing and generally laid back, but this thing has been annoying the hell out of me.

*Disclaimer* Not a Positive Thread. We don't know what we have yet. Haven't played a legit game

*End Disclaimer*

*Rant*

But I'm legit tired of the sky is falling we are screwed crap. That Flacco can't do things, and he needs his weapons.

No, that's not the case. We won the SB because of Flacco.

Losing Pitta stings, but trust me... It could be far worse.

I mean for gods sake's let's look at who WE HAVE on offense

First, the all pros/Pro Bowlers

Ray Rice

Vonta Leach

Bryant Mckinnie(One time)

Marshall Yanda

Jacoby Jones(as a return man)

The most likely to be future pro bowlers

Joe Flacco

Torrey Smith

KO

And lastly, solid role players

Ed Dickson

VS

Gino

Oher.

BP

That's not as bad as everyone claims it to be.

Make no mistake, it could be A LOT BETTER with a Pitta, or a Boldin, but IT's Not BAD

As of right now, the depth chart stands

QB Flacco

RB Rice

RB Pierce

FB Leach
WR Torrey Smith

WR ???

WR 3(for when we play this set) Jacoby Jones

TE Ed Dickson

TE 2 VS

LT Big Mac

LG KO

C Gino

RG Yanda

RT Oher

We got a good oline, two good RBs, and all pro FB, a very good WR in Torrey Smith, and a good #3 in Jacoby.

Our Two TE's aren't great but are both VERY solid.

We could be have the Patriots WR corp, or the Raiders, or  the Chargers, or the Jets, Eagles where all their WRs are injured/injujry prone or not very good.

We could have it a lot worse.

I'm going to repeat this for the entire boards to hear.

If Ozzie or Harbs thought that there was a problem, they would try and do something to fix it.

We clearly have a guy out of these WRs

Doss

Tomphson

Streeter

Mellete

Williams

Brown

that looks good in camp.

If they thought that one of these guys was not capable, we'd make a trade, or pick up a FA NOW.

There are six guys, one of them has to produce. I think it will be Doss.

"But SAM, they didn't preform two days ago"

BS. It's the first preseason game. Chances are the players are a little rusty. Call me week four.

Notice how a lot of y'all are expressing concern, but Ozzie or Harbs have not made a statement yet. They run the team not us.

I'm sorry if I seem in any way shape or form unreasonable, but I have to get this out there. It's not as bad as it seems.

We have always been a run first team, and the run opens up the pass. Our offense at worse will prob be a top 15 unit.

Oh, and for the people complaining about Boldin....

If he's so great, why did we only get a sixth rounder for him? Why haven't the Niners offered a contract extension yet? Why did we trade him????????

Ozzie's no moron. He wouldn't do something THAT stupid.

Boldin was very good for us, but was too $$$$$$.

We're not FINE, as in something went wrong. That's TBD, the season hasn't started yet, and even I have my doubts.

But will be most likely be ok with Ozzie and John running the show? Yes. Our offense should be good.

*End Rant*

*Exit Stage Left*

I agree with most of your statement but you have to remember that we're Ravens fans. Lol

Did you forget that some of our fans were calling for Tyrod by week 13 of last year b/c Flacco "isn't the answer"?

P.s. Pierce is a future all-star(barring any major injuries) & IMHO Dickson will prove that he can be a game changer w/ Pitta out.

Bravo, I wish more people could look at it objectively like this without trying to be completely "gloom and doom" Its been one preseason game as you said, I'm not worried in the least because there are some great captains steering this ship we call the Baltimore Ravens and they know what they're doing.

That said, you can't be surprised, some members of this fanbase are ridiculous every single preseason...

Oh Lord, I pray you will protect Joe Flacco on and off the field this entire season.  Pre and post season as well.  May he not even stub his little toe on the bed post late at night.  No Lord not even that.
If you do this Lord we will ALL thank you in our own individual way Super Bowl Sunday.

Thank you Lord.

Amen.

But hey, we just signed Brandon Stokely!

And that's a good thing.

Not a superstar, but a productive possession WR. Just what we needed. Reliable too

I'm right with you. The season hasn't even started yet. Too early for "chicken little" routine. Although I do not necessarily agree that our answer is with the "new guys". Maybe, maybe not. We will know by who we see playing against the Broncos. Until then only the coaches know for sure.

Well Stokley is here now....

He's a seasoned vet who helps out a lot.

He won't be a superstar, but he will be solid.

Oh look, it's this thread again.  We get it, people overreact to everything, BOTH ways.  I've been on this board for a long time and there are FAR more homerific homers on this board than negative nancys.  Both get annoying.  Ya got a guy questioning the Stokley signing (which makes sense to me as I am 100 percent positive if someone has mentioned signing Brandon in past threads this off-season he/she was most likely thrown under the bus) and getting the stuffing negged out of him.  That's just  :eyes:.  On the other hand you have guys who were downing on Joe for the interception against Tampa and worrying what that means for the season which also is  :eyes:.  Overall, we are fans and are irrational a lot of the time.  Why does there always need to be a thread made about it?  I myself am guilty of this, as a few years back I made a pretty long-winded thread about the attitude I saw the board shifting to.  In the end, let's just all agree that people are gonna have overboard reactions both + and - and we can either accept those reactions as normal fan stuff or ignore them but let's stop making a big deal out of them as if they are new.

True, I haven't noticed an overwhelming 'the sky is falling' vibe on these boards. Let people talk about what they will and just say I told you so come the real season.

The untested receivers need lots and lots of targets. They will sink, or they will swim. Targeting Doss and Thompson 3 times out of 34 passing attempts isn't going to cut it.

Precisely. I didn't get to warch the entire TB game so I dunno exactly how much Tampa's covervage had to do with that but its impossible to evaluate guys when theyre getting so few attempts thrown in their direction.

Tampa Bay was playing guys who could start most of the game. Young CBs who could be really good this year. Their CBs were better than our WRs(aside from Torrey of course).

Yeah there really is no in between or balance on this board. I've only been here a short while, but extremism(with a ton of homers who fall into panic mode in a nanosecond) is the most glaring attribute, it makes for some explosive/heated debates and can be quite exciting. I like the way it all plays out, there shouldn't really be a thread about it though. It is what it is.

This might be so but if ever there's a time to take risks and force some throws it's preseason. I'd like to see Joe chuck the rock at Tandon or Deonte with defenders draped across their backs. Force them to make a play for the ball.

The people that post such threads are here looking for reassurance or validation or both. By commenting on that thread, whether agreeing or disagreeing we are likely giving them what they want. Whats the harm? Unless the long posts that are disparaging such threads are some other members way of getting reassurance or validation...

Well, the Ravens have already proven that it is possible to win a Superbowl with a running game and a great defense. Now if they can dodge the deep ball for Touchdown, maybe this team doesn't need to throw!

Haha. It's not possible to know whether the sky is falling or not because the season hasn't started yet :P.

I'm just tired of all the premature were screwed crap when we don't even know what are own team looks like yet.

It's our job to overreact, we're fans. But when the same people do it every day it gets annoying. Especially when you have to wake up to this crap lol.

There are a lot more homers, which is why the negative Nancy's stand out. Thus making them more annoying lol.

But for gods sake, it's PRESEASON. If it were regular season and we had a 5 game losing streak, I'd understand. But we've played one game, and we WON.

That's all I'm saying

Sad reality is the end of pre season is just the beginning.

IF and I say IF we loose game one ( which has a strong possibility ) then we start with a whole new round of  "We are doomed "

Then week two IF we loose then again we are doomed ( Cleveland here so its likely a WIN ) but even if we win many here usually do act like its a loss.  ( its quite ironic )

We could go 8-8 and still make the playoffs and win the Super Bowl.  People will be dissatisfied.  I truly believe we can go 16-0 and there will be those here who will find something to be unhappy about.

I will even guess we can go 16-0 with no win with LESS than a 21 point difference, and there will be a tragic few here to find SOMETHING to complain about.

Life happens.

No problem. If we have the cap space then bring in some play makers in the pre season and go from there. Clark and Stokley are immediate upgrades. We do this every season and It always works. We knew Ozzie was going to do it so what's up?

"If they thought that one of these guys was not capable, we'd make a trade, or pick up a FA NOW."

They did - not one but two: Brandon Stokely and Dallas Clark.

Is there anything more obvious than everything written in this thread?

People still don't think bigfoot or aliens exist so gotta show the facts.
