I'm turning this into an every Saturday thing now so we have a little bit of extra time for the final vote, since I believe there will be a lot of discussion there.  This week, we take a look at who's going to make the team at S.  As usual, we will use the Ravens standard, which in this case is 4.  Please, when choosing, pick only four safeties that you think will make the team.  If you think 3 or 5 make it, do not pick that here, as there will be an opportunity for that in a couple of weeks.

Here are the choices:

1. Michael Huff (30) - Huff is going to be our starting FS.  He's one of those players that will probably never do anything flashy, but he's going to get the job done.  You won't hear his name much, which is a good thing for a safety.  Just getting out of Oakland alone should make him a better player than his career has dictated so far.

2. James Ihedigbo (29) - Ihedigbo was a very solid backup last year, and is in a competition to potentially be the starting SS.  He's not the greatest in coverage, but he can stop the run better than most safeties.  He's a hard hitter that doesn't shy away from contact.  He's also a ST standout and will see a lot of time there if he doesn't start.

3.  Matt Elam (21) - Elam, our 1st round pick, is competing with Ihedigbo for that starting spot.  Right now he's on the 2nd string due to his lack of experience, but expect him to see a lot of time whether he starts or not.  He's a bit small, but can lay down a hit and is pretty good in coverage as well.  He can double at FS or SS, although SS is his best position.

4.  Omar Brown (25) - We all know that Brown is known as baby Ed Reed.  He's got great ball hawking skills and can be classified as a playmaker.  With that being said, his coverage still lacks a bit and he hasn't fully grasped ST, according to reports.  He's one of the top candidates for the last roster spot at S.

5.  Anthony Levine (26) - Levine is a bit of an unknown player, but he has drawn coaches' praise.  He's a very strong ST player and a quality fill in at S.  He's a hard hitter that carries a lot of speed as well.  In the first preseason game, Levine played very well.  With his performance, he's entered his name into the competition with Brown.

6.  Brynden Trawick (23) - Trawick is a big bodied safety that is better served at SS, but he can play FS too.  He's now known for his blocked punt in the first game.  Although 4 or 5 other guys could have blocked it, Trawick was there first and put himself on the stat sheet.  He's still a long shot, but more ST plays could put his name in the running.

7.  Gary Walker (22) - Walker is regarded as a playmaking S that has some speed in his game.  HE saw very limited action in his first game, which doesn't bode well for his chances to make the team.  He's likely just a camp body at this point.

8.  Christian Thompson (23) - He's not on the poll because he's suspended.  Overall, he's been pretty terrible in camp so far, and I'll leave it at that.

I picked four, but I think that five are in this year.  The first three are locks, and I think at least two of the others find their way onto the squad.

I tend to agree as well.  Huff's ability to play CB gives us the opportunity to only go with 5 CB's, which definitely makes a lot of sense considering Anthony's struggles.

Haha thanks.  I'll be doing a final vote where a 5th safety will have a shot.  I hate limiting people since it's all opinion, but if I don't, I know some people would have a 90 man roster on opening day.

First 5 are locks for me but I just picked the first 4 since I'm pretty sure Omar will make the team over Levine if it came down to that.

I think it's likely that all 5 make it, but I think saying that they're locks may be stretching it a bit lol.

Looks like we're going to have to remove their contracts because we need a vet WR more than a defense :P

Also because 120 million was too much for Joe

Lol at the person that decided to be a troll and vote for Ihedigbo, Trawick, Levine and Walker. I'd like to suggest you make the results public rmw. I think you would have less of this kind of stuff. It's funny though. Makes me laugh. I'm guessing the same guy voted that Huff and Elam won't make the team because that makes sense.

Anyway, I'm going with Huff, Elam, Ihedigbo and Brown but I can see Levine win the battle over him potentially. Brown needs to show up on ST to beat out Levine. Unlike others I don't think Ihedigbo is guaranteed a spot but I do recognize he is likely to make it.

I do think we'll keep five safeties this year.

People just think they're funny, but they're not.

You can make it public? I was totally unaware of that.

Yes, you can. That is, unless the moderators/administrator disabled that feature.

Looks like its gone. I don't see any option unless I'm looking in the wrong spot.

PM one of the mods like Mod2 or someone like that. I can understand why they might have removed that feature, since people could call other people out due to their votes and such. It's understandable.

I'll just let it go. I try to keep track of the troll votes, but in most cases it never even affects the vote overall. If whoever it is finds pleasure in it, they can continue on.

I'd like to think Omar Brown makes the team, he just seems to make plays and you can never have enough playmakers.

Polls votes can be made public. Feature was not disabled by anyone.

I'm hoping to see Elam tested more in pass coverage next game. He was amazing against the run during the last one.

Just finished watching practice and I think Omar Brown makes this team. He looked really good.

It's gotten to where I would be pretty surprised if he didn't make it.
