WR Deonte Thompson injures ankle

19 posts in this topic

Since I know this will cause a lot of conversation in coming days, I figured I'd start a thread now.

Of the two injuries, Deonte Thompson's left foot, ankle regarded as more serious of the two. Unclear how long he'll be sidelined

Doesn't sound good so far.  Sounds like Pierce is a tweak, while Thompson may be sidelined for a little bit.  He walked out of the stadium last night in a soft boot, according to Zrebiec.

You guys hyped up Deonte and now you're all disappointed. I'm curious what plays you saw or practices you went to put so much praise on him over Tandon and LaQuan and David Reed.

Speed is cool, but he was still an undrafted free agent. I don't think he went undrafted because he was a character concern

Some of the guys hyping him up saw him last year in preseason and a few were at practices this year. Plus many of the reports coming out of OTAs and Training Camp said he was having a good camp. It wasn't like fans were the "only" people hyping him up, they were just reacting to the reports coming out on him.

Also one lackluster preseason game and an ankle injury isn't enough to write him off, he could still come on strong and play a significant role in the offense by the time the regular season starts.

True, but it's almost certain now that the Ravens will find a veteran receiver.

No it's not. LaQuan Williams is the dark horse among our young WRs. If he continues to have a good preseason, I think we'll be fine with what we've got. Let's not forget Dickson comes back Week 1 and could probably play now if it were important.

I wouldn't say almost certain.  But more likely.

If they wanted Brandon Lloyd I think they would have signed him.  I'm upset Steve Breaston wasn't signed.

I don't think so. Thompson was #4 on the depth chart. Its not going to be that hard to replace his role on the team. Its more of a tough blow for Deonte than anything else. Its hard to make a good impression when hurt.

Does anybody know of the severity of the ankle sprain for Thompson and the injury to Bernard?

We may not get an "official" update until Saturday as the Ravens are off today.

Did you watch any preseason games last year? I don't get the opportunity to watch practices but the guy was a beast last preseason. I am still waiting for a breakout preseason game from Doss or Reed where I come out saying, "Damn they were all over the field making plays." I have seen them from Williams and Thompson. Thompson had one catch and one drop last night, but that was one more catch than Doss (who was supposed to be the next Boldin because of his "great hands").

I really hope he is ok, along with BP!

Preseason injuries always seem to be much more overblown than they should be.  We have a month until the first regular season game.  i won't be concerned about anyone until then.

The team hasn't had much luck finding a worthy veteran wr in the past. I expect them to continue developing the young ones on the team.

Doesn't seem like too big a deal. It looked worse than they're saying but perhaps they know more than us. They do have doctors. John does like to make things out to be better than they are at times.

Deonte is good to go.

A couple of injury notes: Deonte Thompson has bruised left foot. He is out for Thursday's game but should return for preseason game no.3
