I agree its not, I feel that we payed joe 120 million to be able to make these guys better. Im just saying Doss isn't the answer and Streeter deff isn't the answer.

It's only been 1 game... 2 drives actually. It's way too early to prove that.

Exactly. Concerning? Yes. End of the world? No.

I know it comes with these forums, and I'm used to it by now but I too always tire of the gloom and doom. This training camp and preseason are the first time all of these guys except Torrey and Jacoby are getting extended looks in anything other than practice without a total logjam ahead of them in the forms of other players and offensive coordinators who trot 4 receivers out as often as there is a smallpox outbreak. EVERY receiver has to start somewhere, even your precious Brandon Lloyd...

Not gonna play "favorites" and proclaim one guy as winning or being better but I know someone will have seriously stepped it up by the time the regular season starts and this passing game will be fine. Laquan made a serious case if he can continue to catch as well as he plays special teams, he had some big drops in last year's preseason. And Jacoby just confirmed what we all think of his receiving ability compared to his return ability. Don't want to judge him on one preseason game but he is a 7th year vet now and we've seen this performance as a receiver before from him, you pretty much know what you're usually going to get. I'd like to see him largely out of the receiving rotation for the rest of the preseason in favor of more reps for everyone fron Deonte to Aaron Mellette, but I don't see that happening as much as we'd like...

Wow... After one preseason game our season is over.......

Pretty typical around here. Especially after we scored 44 points...

How about another category called the One Play Wonders?  We put in players that made a big play and wonder if that is a sign of things to come or a blip on the radar.

Copeland, Mellette, Trawick

Please don't kill me if I missed another play any of these guys made.  I was trying to listen to the radio broadcast while working, so I might have missed something, but I know each of them made one big play, at least.

The starting offense was okay and I'm not really concerned. I do hope to see better things next week and week 3, since they'll be getting more snaps. There were only 2 big negatives for me, which were the penalties and dropped passes. Not too concerning since it was the first preseason game and both can be worked on.

The starting defense looked real good, with the exception of a few hiccups. They all looked fast and they all swarmed the ball carrier. Suggs and Ngata appear to be back to their usual form. Daryl Smith was a standout, I think we all agree on that. Elam, Brown, and Williams all played well. I'm liking what I'm seeing from the defense, so far. We have a good group with a lot of depth.

Some other guys who stood out: Tyrod Taylor, It's only 1 preseason game but he looks like a different QB out there; LaQuan Williams, really making a case for himself in the WR race; Adrian Hamilton, it seemed like he was always in the backfield; and Asa Jackson, he really needs to show up this preseason and so far he's doing a good job of that. I'm happy with how most of the guys played tonight.

My take is that our WR corps has a lot of work to do while showing promise at the same time. Some other things I saw was that Flacco still needs to work on his reading skills and decision making but that is expected. Doss was so so, he was able to get wide open but Flacco missed him but at the same time he struggled vs the rookie and was just a non factor overall. DT very disappointed because I have such high hopes for him(predicting a breakout season) but he has to catch the ball and secure it as well as staying on the field. LaQuan really showed off today but I still think he is on the bubble for sure. Jacoby just proved what I have been thinking all along(he isn't a WR2). He can't run the routes you expect from a X or Z receiver nor does he attack the ball like one. He is a Y and very very limited Z. Mellette is a guy I think has the most upside as a consistent receiver and I like what I saw from him today. Once he gets tougher, stronger, and more precise in his routes he will be a pretty good receiver that can play anywhere on the field. He might never be a true starter in the league but he is a guy that(potentially) can really produce in a variety of roles for us. If we are going to have a bunch of fast, explosive, playmaking receivers who are also fragile, then we are going to need a solid durable receiver to go along with them. I believe Mellette could be that guy even if he is just the 4th highest WR on the depth chart. What more needs to be said about Furst. He needs more targets in practice and in the games. Would like to see him run more with the first team. Like I said before when have we ever started a TE rookie? Could a UDFA be the Furst? :P

Im sitting here watching the Falcons game recorded and its like matt ryans receivers run short intermediate routes which get them open a lot more. I don't understand why our receivers always have to go deep.

First off, the falcons technically have two #1 WRs, so this leaves the defense in tough spot of who to double and how to roll coverage, throw in Tony G and Douglas and it gets difficult to cover them if they run slants and crosses, with seams over the top.

Caldwell has no reason to show the whole play book in the first preseason game, they were not running the same old streaks,7-10 yard digs and curls.
I saw some inside intermediate routes, shiancoe had a few, Torrey, Thompson ( got his ankle rolled on one) , M.Brown had some inside routes also.....
I wanted to see Doss, Laquan, and Furstenberg used more inside.

This is something we all should keep in mind THROUGHOUT the preseason, I doubt we even see very much "non-vanilla" offense in the third preseason game.

A.Brown & Bynes looked good onside of each other.
B.Hall - was impressive
A.Jackson - made his big plays right on cue, the announcers talking about how he could get cut if he doesn't have good preseason and faces that suspension then boom to momentum shifting plays. Wish he had stayed in the game longer after that.
Elam - was flying around
LaQuan - made everyone remember how he earned playing time as a rookie over Doss and Reed. ( still not sure why he was in dog house last year ).

Ricky Wagner looked great today. I'd like to see him get off the ball with a little more power when he's run blocking, but he looked great today. Really solid in pass protection. Our offensive line looked pretty good today, including the back ups. They definitely looked better than they did this time last season. Marlon Brown was a pleasant surprise, as was LaQuan. I like Furstenburg. Front seven looked good all around.

I was impressed by Asa Jackson. He knows he is going to have to ball out to make the team and I think he did just that. He was solid in coverage and that hit on Hillis was nice. Of course the INT was also a very good play. If he keeps it up I think there will be a spot for him after his suspension.

I forgot to mention that. Asa and Marc Anthony both looked great today. They were great in man coverage especially, from what I could tell.

Must've missed that one, but I saw him make a few good plays. If I remember correctly.

Defensive Game Ball - Daryl Smith

Offensive Game Ball - LaQuan Williams

To the people clamoring for a vet wr signing, it's probably not going to happen (Unless someone we like get's cut between now and week 1). Brandon Lloyd is the hot name and not many people bring up that he's a locker room cancer and has burned many bridges in his career. The guy is talented enough but if we were comfortable with his presence in the locker room he would've already been signed. Why do you think the Pats passed on bringing him back? Got a Bernard Pollard type personality. Like I've said all along Jacoby is a #3 wr at best. He's good for a home run here and there, he's clutch, but he's just not effective at running underneath routes and being the possession wr we need him to be when he's not running vertical routes and stretching the field. Torrey can do both.

I'm really starting to think LaQuan Williams might be the best possession wr we have going across the middle besides Torrey. Tandon Doss just hasn't shown up thus far, Doss actually got on the field a decent amount in the Playoffs last year but you would barely know it because he was invisible when he got his chances. I can at least remember LaQuan making a nice leaping catch on a curl on 3rd down vs the Steelers @ Heinz Field on that 90+ yd drive from Flacco to win the game in 2011. Doss has gotten far more opportunities and I can't ever remember him coming through for us. I think the best play of his entire career was drawing a PI against the Broncos in the playoffs. I'm not joking.

Torrey and LaQuan. 2 UMD guys at wr that can make plays and hold onto the football. Sounds good to me

Score 44 points.......offense is bad

Seems legit

Scoreboard doesn't care how you put points on it. Ugly or pretty; offense or defense. Remember that, y'all!
