No more Jacoby Jones dancing or Terrell Suggs celebrating?

35 posts in this topic

I will be sad to not see JJ's end zone dancing and Suggs celebrating a good sack. But that is what will get them a 15 yard penalty. How do you feel about turning players into robots?

Who says you can't dance (alone) after a score or celebrate (without going to a knee) after a sack?

What in the world are you talking about? As far as I know the NFL has no intention of flagging touchdown and sack celebrations.

Are the poor widdle opponents feelings getting hurt? Is that why, Mr. Goodell? This isn't pee wee football, the losers can suck it up. Goodell disgusts me.

Why is this Goodell? He's only a mouthpiece for the owners. Player safety rules and stuff like this are decided upon by the team owners.

Can anyone explain to me the NFL's motive for ruining all celebrations? I genuinely don't understand anything about it....who is it offending?

I assume you posted this before they posted the update to the article. Jacoby will still have his TD celebrations since the penalty for excessive celebration only applies while teams are moving the ball down the field. Although I guess Suggs' sack celebration would now warrant a flag.

I read it on Pro Football Talk. The article was discussing the non-taunting rule. The officials are to give out more penalties for what "they" deem to be taunting. Not just in the end zone. They were talking about individual actions.

He does have significant influence among the owners.

He does have significant influence among the owners.

They're his boss. They hired him, renewed his deal, and could fire him if they so choose. They love him for the most part because they're still raking in the dough, got them a generally favorable CBA (in which he came off looking way better than DeMaurice Smith), and takes all the heat.

Player safety rules -> owners looking to cover themselves and stop the endless lawsuits from former players.

Team relocation, including London -> owners looking to expand the brand and become worldwide, not a new phenomena.

Strict player discipline -> owners realizing that poor conduct turns people away and hurts their bottom line.

Goodell takes the heat for these things but these are owner and franchise-driven changes.

Hey now, that was great entertainment!

Nothing against it... They were the reason the NCAA changed its rules in the 90s . Just saying nobody was doing anything close to what the Cains were doing back then...

When I was reffin', I called "delay of game" of game on celebrations. We had 60 minutes of football that every team paid to play.

No one wanted the game to be a performance art. You cannot let every player control the clock.

The human personality will always be part of football. It will just cost a few yards to do so.

Perform between the whistles.

I get the feeling i've missed something obvious here, but...
If this is in the middle of a drive, wouldn't the play clock still be running?
So if you are messing about doing the crazy chicken dance, or as in the animated gif on the previous page spiking the ball into your own gentleman area (thanks for reposting that, by the way!) surely you are wasting your own time and if you aren't ready for the start of the next play, you are only hurting yourself?

My favorite part is you can't salute. I mean really NFL, they can't show their appreciation to the armed forces WHO YOU INVITE TO THE SIDELINES OF THE GAMES!

This is the No Fun League. No Suggs Hulking, No Dragonfly dancing, no pointing a football to your fans as you walk it in the endzone. It's stupid. I would of been fine with no verbal bashing or pointing to a scoreboard but some of these aren't unsportsmanlike conduct.

Point #1 = more money for the owners.

Point #2 = more money for the owners.

Point #3 = more money for the owners.

Isn't that a peculiar coincidence, lol.

Jacoby's TD celebration is PG-13 entertainment; what's wrong with that? it's not like he's throwing the football into the opposing fans or something....

Taking away TD celebration is non-sense as well as taking away the KR if it's going to happen....

Unfortunetly, this is all a sign of our times. Everyone is so worried about being PC and/or not offending anyone, its rediculous. A high school football team named the Redskins has decided to change its name so as not to offend the Native Americans, NHRA is considering pulling all alchoholic beverage sponsors for fear that it may promote drinking and driving, there is no longer a "Winston Cup" in NASCAR, little leagues no longer keep score so there are no losers, elementary schools no longer have dodge ball so the "lean challenged" (PC correct!) kids aren't targeted. I myself have started a petition to stop Notre Dame from using the phrase "Fighting Irish" as it give the rediculous impression that us Irish Americans always want to fight................and if someone blocks my petition I'm gonna clobber them!

move the kickoff back, big deal, its already being kicked at the 35, being kicked at the 20 would result in a drive starting at the opposite 20 most of the time anyway. go ahead and dance jacoby!

Correct, he is a puppet for the owners. It's an unholy alliance. Add their League Instructed Referees into club and the design is to relieve the fans of their money with a watered down product that protects their investment in players under contract. Goodell is one of them. Heads Up Football Baby!!!
