Fantasy Football Rankings 2013: Wide Receivers

21 posts in this topic

In general after Megatron imo, there is not a huge margin separating the next 30 wide receivers.  That is an incredible amount of depth, but I am attempting to do just that, separate them here...

Tier 1:  Megatron, no further explanation required...

Tier 2:  The stud number one guys who are the keys to their offense without a doubt.

2. Larry Fitzgerald

3. Brandon Marshall

4. Dez Bryant

5. AJ Green

Tier 3:  Also stud number one wideouts, but the offense will not revolve clearly around them.

6. Demaryius Thomas

7. Randall Cobb

8. Roddy White

9. Julio Jones

10. Victor Cruz

11. Vincent Jackson

12. Marques Colston

13. Dwayne Bowe

14. Andre Johnson

Tier 4:  These are what I call the 1b's.  They can score like a low end number 1 or a high end number 2 depending on the matchup and they can disappear a bit more than the last group.

15. Reggie Wayne

16. Danny Amendola

17. Antonio Brown

18. Torrey Smith

19. Tavon Austin

20. Wes Welker

21. Jordy Nelson

22. Hakeem Nicks

23. Steve Smith (CAR)

24. James Jones

25. Eric Decker

26. Desean Jackson

27. Mike Wallace

28. Cecil Shorts

Tier 5:  nice number 2 options... slim chance of scoring like a number 1 consistently.

29. Lance Moore

30. Pierre Garcon

31. Danario Alexander

32. Greg Jennings

33. Miles Austin

34. Percy Harvin (deserves this even if he misses several games)

35. Steve Johnson

36. Anquan Boldin

37. Mike Williams

38. TY Hilton

Tier 6:  High upside but unproven guys

39. Deandre Hopkins

40. Denarius Moore

41. Josh Gordon

42. Kenny Britt

43. Ryan Broyles

44. Emmanuel Sanders

45. nate Washington

46. Vincent Brown

47. Michael Floyd

48. Kendall Wright

Tier 7:  Mostly unproven guys with upside but not as high as the previous group

49. Reuben Randle

50. Brian Hartline

51. Aaron Dobson

52. Alshon Jeffery

53. Justin Blackmon

54. Greg Little

55. Santonio Holmes

56. Golden Tate

57. Brandon LaFell

58. Chris Givens

59. Jason Avant

Tier 8:  The lottery ticket guys... maybe you will hit one!

60. Sidney Rice

61. Darrius Heyward Bey

62. Doug Baldwin

63. Brian Quick

64. Davone Bess

65. AJ Jenkins

66. Mohamed Sanu

67. Jon Baldwin

68. Andre Roberts

69. Deonte Thomspon

70. Robert Woods

71. keenan Allen

72. Markus Wheaton

73. Cordarelle Patterson

Training camp battles which will be very interesting and move these rankings:  Baltimore, Tennessee, St. Louis, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh

Tier 1

1. Megatron

Tier 2

2. Brandon Marshall (Cutler only throws to him, and him only)

2. Dez Bryant (Will probably score most TDs as a WR)

4. AJ Green (Amazing. Overcomes Dalton's shortcomings)

4. Julio Jones (Really?? How in hell is he behind Roddy White in your list??)

6. Larry Fitzgerald (Palmer is a big upgrade)

Tier 3

7. Roddy White

8. Victor Cruz

9. Demaryius Thomas (#1.. but Welker will take targets away)

9. Randall Cobb (He will have 20pt games and 2pt games)

9. Marques Colston (Sean Payton's back)

12. Vincent Jackson

12. Dwayne Bowe (He may be a potential steal, given how Alex Smith plays)

Tier 4

14. Wes Welker (Could be top 10. Peyton + Welker > Brady + Welker)

14. Jordy Nelson

16. Reggie Wayne

17. Torrey Smith (So many more targets without Boldin and Pitta)

17. Hakeem Nicks

17. Antonio Brown

20. James Jones (14 TDs last year)

Tier 5:

21. Andre Johnson (Really can't trust him anymore)

22. Mike Wallace (Could be a steal depending on Tannenhill)

22. Pierre Garcon (Injury issues to both him and RG3. If not, could be in top 10)

24. Desean Jackson (Many more targets without Maclin)

24. Steve Smith

26. Eric Decker

27. Anquan Boldin (He will have more TDs than last year. No Crab)

28. Danny Amendola (Injured all the time. Brady can't help him with that..)

28. Tavon Austin (Rookie)

30. Mike Williams

Tier 6:

29. Lance Moore

30. Danario Alexander (Injury prone, but high risk high reward right?)

31. Cecil Shorts (Who's his QB?)

31. Greg Jennings (Takes a huge step back with Ponder)

33. Miles Austin

34. Steve Johnson (I liked him, just not with a rookie QB)

The rest..

Wait for preseason

I love PuRock's statement yesterday about how our job is to critique.

Does Megatron really need to be in a tier by himself? I'm not doubting his ability at all. Seems like picking hairs...he'd still be #1

WR is the one position that constantly changes every single year. Calvin is by far the best in real life, but I don't have him finishing # 1 this year. I would draft him #1 WR because he's the best and the safest, but I don't know if I can see him being there again this year....

Julio Jones
Calvin
Bryant
Andre (returns to the top 5, gut feeling he has big year).
Marshall
Welker
Green
Cobb
D. Thomas

Nelson
V Jackson
Garçon
Cruz
Fitzgerald
Torrey Smith
White

Mike Williams
Amendola
G Jennings
Brown
James Jones
Bowe
Nicks
Colston

This order isn't the safest. If it was it would be a lot different

Tier 4

14. Wes Welker (Could be top 10. Peyton + Welker > Brady + Welker)

14. Jordy Nelson

16. Reggie Wayne

17. Torrey Smith (So many more targets without Boldin and Pitta)

17. Hakeem Nicks

17. Antonio Brown

20. James Jones (14 TDs last year)

Tier 5:

21. Andre Johnson (Really can't trust him anymore)

Andre-hater!

I like how Hakeem is more trustable.... And Torrey...

Last year in a ppr he finished 5th overall.  Sure his TD totals suck, but AJ has never really had that.

He's older, and I'm not as high on him as I used to be.  But he's only 32 and can still get the job done.  DeAndre might actually take some double teams away from AJ.  I can still trust him more than any of those guys in tier 4.

Wes is the only one I'd take over him in a ppr league. Reggie would be similar to AJ value wise IMO.

I think we agree on him. I have him in tier three lowest I've ever ranked him. He is still more trustworthy than the tier four group. Hopkins is the best wideout he's had opposite him his whole career. The reason I bump him down is he is likely to miss time. Last year was the first time he has completed a season since 09 and only the fifth of his 10 yr career.

I agree aj is similar to Wayne in value. Wes I have a bit lower due to the amount of receiving options already established in Denver.

All about opinion. WR is by far the toughest position to project IMO. There's only a few safe ones to pick from that you know will finish top 10. (Barring injury).

As for having roddy over Julio. He is the better player for one. He had 13 more catches and about 150 yards more. Julio had 3 more scores, but white has been playing at the consistently high level for several years, so I certainly give hkm the edge there.

I really like the potential that you can get late in the draft.  By the time RBs have run dry you can still get guys like

Michael Floyd

Alshon Jeffrey

Rueben Randle

Vincent Brown

Ryan Broyles

Golden Tate

Any of these guys could be contributors in a ppr, and a few of them could even be lottery tickets.

I agree all these guys have strong potential. I also have 14 potential number ones with several more just behind them. This position is the deepest of any by far.

Are any of you biting Harvin or Blackmon?

Best Case Scenario for Harvin is he returns after their bye, Week 13.  But you also can't expect him to come running out of the gates after having not played for so long.  By the time he returns to form it will be the fantasy playoffs.  Plus he has zero chemistry w/ Wilson.

I just can't sit on him for that long and hope everything goes according to plan.  I think my max threshold might be 10 weeks.

Blackmon is still worth a look in the late rounds.  He started to turn it on late last season.  But he isn't someone I'm actively seeking.

Depending on the size of the bench, harvin is worth a late pick depending on what prognosis he is given closer to the draft. He could put a team over the top in the playoffs.

Blackmon is on my personal do not draft list.

I like how Hakeem is more trustable.... And Torrey...

I suspect Hakeem will return to 2010/2011 numbers. Torrey will break out this year. Flacco is more confident and Caldwell will utilize Torrey better than Cam. Torrey's targets will increase dramatically. Maybe you're right that I've underrated Andre, but it's a gut feeling. I guess it's more to do with him burning me in that 2011 season after I picked him in round 2 or something

At 31, Roddy is definitely not better than Julio.

No matter what size it is, I never think it's big enough.  Carrying Harvin in a deep league through ALL of the bye weeks, will be tough.  You have to be pretty confident in him to make a triumph return to do so.

Harvin could be a bold FA pickup Week 12 or 13.
