Justin Tucker - How Good Can He Possibly Get?

34 posts in this topic

Myself, I think he'll be remembered as a top 10, maybe even top 5, kicker when he retires, hopefully from us, and hopefully 15 or so years from now. He has all the tools (in the clutch he transcends to a whole new level that other kickers cannot seem to accomplish with his performance,  he has all the power you can ask for, and his accuracy is excellent, drilling 50+ yard kicks right down the middle on a consistent basis), he has the attitude that is hungry for becoming the best, and the personality that attracts fans to him. I do think he'll become better than Stover before he retires, so that could push him to the top 3 of the all-time kicker list.

How good do you think Justin Tucker can become? Do you think he has a chance at becoming the best kicker the NFL has ever had? Or do you think he'll just be a solid player?

More like best player ever, not just kicker.

He's currently the 2nd best K in the league, after Walsh.  Zuerlin has massive range, but spotty accuracy.  Janikowski simply doesn't get opportunities anymore in the shell that is OAK.

As long as his confidence does not turn into Mike Vanderjagt confidence he will likeley be consistently be in the top 3 every season.

Kickers are really judged by those clutch moments so given that we have Flacco and are perennial playoff performers he should have some pretty good moments to be remembered by..best ever may be a stretch, but it really depends on the situations he will be put in..I have no question he will be able to perform under any circumstance just if he gets the shot too

Very, very true. Janikowski's career was completely ruined because he has wasted his tenure in the NFL, so far, by playing for a pathetic Raiders organization.

Um, his career isn't over, he's still playing in OAK!  Though I get your point, he could play on any team he wants.

That's because most of Legatrons misses were from like 60 yards and outdoors I believe.

I wanna give Tucker another year or two before thinking he's better than Stover. I think he has a ton of potential to be our franchise kicker for a long time though.

I'm thinking of buying his jersey, he's already a favorite of mine.

He missed several kicks from under 40, including a potential game-winner, if I recall correctly.

Hence the "so far" part in my post lol

You are correct. He did miss some crucial field goals, but people outside of the Rams fan base merely think of his leg power and think he's a beast.

From what I just read he only missed 2 under 40, the rest from 50+ which is pretty good.

True. But Justin Tucker doesn't attempt clutch kicks. He makes them :P

I need new jokes

Justin Tucker once kicked a 72 yard field goal while sitting in a recliner and inventing a time machine on his laptop.  And if you doubt that actually happened, Chuck Norris will give you roundhouse kick to the face so hard, you will travel back in time and witness it.

Like having Matt Stover again but with a bigger leg.. The years with Hauschka, Cundiff, and another bum who I'm forgetting made it torture to watch our kicking game. So inconsistent you really never knew when they were just going to flat out shank a kick.. even 40 yds and under wasn't safe.

So glad we gave Tuck a shot last training camp, we might not have even made it to the SB without his consistency and clutchness. Very few kickers would've booted through that kick in Denver under that kind of immense pressure.

Of course he makes the money shots (kicks) as long as the offense gets him great field position.

He can also drill it from distance, awesome talent.

From the girly perspective, he is pretty cute, too! Love the post of him in an O's jersey...

One of my favorite players.  I know he is a kicker, but hey I think he is great :)

Don't feel bad, he's in my top 5 favorite players on the team as well, even though he is a Kicker. So was Stover, when he was playing for us.

Kicking is all about psyche.  Tucker Missed 3 regular season FGs the whole year, 2 coming at Paul Brown and Heinz, notoriously hard places to kick.  He was perfect in the postseason, including a 47 yarder in Denver and a 38 yarder in the Superbowl.  There's really nothing Tucker has left to prove.  He was basically right there with Phil Dawson (Tucker was 91 percent, Dawson 93.5) while having 2 more FG attempts, and Dawson went to the Pro Bowl.  As great as Stove was, HE only finished about 90 percent for the season twice in his career.  I see Tucker kicking in Baltimore for the next decade at least, and I think he's going to be above 90 percent the majority of his career here.

Funny... we were saying the same things about Cundiff after his one year of stellar play. Let's give the kid some time before heaping best kicker ever type praise on him lol.

Actually Cundiff was a unique situation.  Everyone loved the signing at first, mainly for his touchbacks.  He was an above average field goal kicker, but his main value came on kickoffs.  Once they moved the line up to the 35, the deal kind of soured most of us.  We had an above average kicker that lost his main value.  Obviously, above average quickly became terrible.  However, we weren't crowning him king because of his field goals.

Cundiff did have a great year, but I never felt he was as likeable or beloved by Ravens fans as Tucker is.  Maybe it's because Tucker saved us from having to deal with Cundiff any longer after he imploded.
