I posted this many months ago during last pre season but I'll post it again.....

Love it. He won't start over Huff and Ihedigbo/Elam, but he's shown during the last two preseasons to just be one of those guys who seems to be in the right place at the right time. Here's hoping they find ways to use him behind the starters during the regular season.

Ugh. I hate Niner fans

"Elam not playing in 2013 means that he's a bust and Reid is obviously better"

Really? Do you have to be better at every little thing? And be completely oblivious to how every team other than your own works?
Ever heard of our saftey rotation?
3 saftey sets?
Regardless of who's starting ELAM is getting playing time.

He will be a starter later on this season. Book it

Don't waste board space talking about Niner fans, everything about them is completely irrelevant.

Only reason Elam isn't starting Week 1 is because its Manning and they're going with Ihedigbo who's played against Manning before and are rolling the dice Ihedigbo won't be fooled by Manning's tricks, show the coverage too soon/blitz and Manning won't be able to screw with a young rookie who is going 100 miles a minute.  Elam starts before the month is out without question.

I also haven't seen Ihedigbo do anything to lose the job.  It was up to Elam to play like a superstar this summer if he wanted to start Week One.  He has played well, especially against the run, but he hasn't been lights out, yet.  He will soon prove that he deserves that spot.  I agree.  However, I don't think any of the three main safeties will be completely kept out of the game plan this season barring injury.

seriously? Elam has been a beast this pre season. I haven't seen any of Reid but I find it hard to believe any Safety is doing better than Elam right now. I know Cyprien has been terribad.

Just what the damn 9er fans are telling me lol. They could have Craig Dahl starting and they would be high on him lol

Why exactly is that worrisome...?

Elam being benched has me worried. Last they heard, James I was no good.

Reality is that he is good looking back at it, and earned the job.

But they treat James I like he's a scrub

Elam wasn't benched. He'll have a big role.

The way the 69er fans see it is that
Not starting = Benched

You wrote that Elam being benched had you worried. It didn't sound like you were getting to the fans of the 49ers. Sorry. Maybe I missed the sarcasm.

Let them know that just because our defense isn't desperate enough to rush a rookie into the starting lineup should tell them something about our team, not our rookies.

Haha. It's all good

I agree with you.

Elam will be rotated in a lot. He might not be a starter but will get a ton a playing time.

But what they're telling me is that out of
Cyprein
Reid
Vacarro
Swearinger

Elam is the worst. Lmao.

To be fair. Reid has played well. As has Vaccaro and Swearinger. Reid is prob playing the best of all of them but Elam will have the bigger future

To be completely honest Ihedigbo is a fringe starter at best.  He's been released/let go from two teams already and we didn't sign him last year until like week 3 or something and theres a reason he was unsigned.  He's far better in run support than he is in coverage and I wouldn't call him a Bernard Pollard in run support.  Like I said before, if Elam isn't starting by months end I'll be completely shocked.  Ihedigbo isn't a safety you brag about having as he doesn't have much of an impact, but he's not straight garbage either.  Ihedigbo is starting because he's a veteran and we're playing a PO'd Manning week 1.  Elam would be in over his head, Ihedigbo won't be manipulated as easily.

.I thought Elam was our upgrade over Ihedigbo.

Sure, he is.  That doesn't take anything away from the fact that Rhodes is a great safety. I'm surprised he's still out there. I'd take Rhodes over Ihedigbo. That's what I'm saying. I'm not talking about Elam here.

James I has played relatively well.  Probably better than Pollard did last year

So anyone know what is the deal with Anthony Levine? Not trying to hate on the kid or the staff's decision but I don't recall hearing his name once this preseason or in any of the training camp updates on the site. I understand why we kept 5 safeties because we only have 4 active CBs once Asa's suspension takes effect and Huff can play corner if necessary, so the 5 safeties isn't a question. But Trawick was blocking punts and went into tackling-beast mode against the Rams and we all know what Omar Brown has been doing the last two preseasons, what was Levine doing? Just curious about the guy because I think most will agree that they didn't forsee him making the final roster.
