Fantasy football rankings: QBs

51 posts in this topic

You just made my point for me. You mention the last 9 games, but what about the first 8? That's what keeps him just behind the other guys IMO. I have him at 6 so he's right there. I could put him over Brady and I just like Wilson better as those two should Finnish close.

soooooo...when does this running back list come out?

I scooped up Rudolph last year and he was getting in the endzone.

Lance Kendricks or Scott Chandler could be a steal

Chandler, ugh.  He gets so neglected in BUF.  I doubt that will change much this season.  Kendricks could be a steal.

But if EJ Manuel starts, he'll be his best friend

Why do I have the horrible feeling Kolb will start for most of the season?!  :bitenails: How big a fantasy risk would you rank EJ?

8. Tony romo
9. Colin kapernick
10. Eli manning
11. Carson Palmer
12. Andrew luck
13. Matthew stafford

Tier 5: inconsistent scorers. Likely top 5 to to 20 each week, also players who will put up multiple zeros due to injury.)

14. Ben roethlesbeger

31. Mark Sanchez
32. Brandon weeden

Can't wait to hear the feedback. I know there are at least 5 guys here that are ranked way different than the consensus I feel strongly about.

I think Brees should be in that first tier. From a fantasy perspective, Brees is probably the cream of the crop. His streak of games with multiple touchdowns made him pure fantasy gold. If you were ranking them on skill, I'd agree with you, but from a fantasy scoring perspective on a week to week basis, Brees is as good as it gets (keyword week to week) Brady should be in that second tier.

I also think you have wilson too high. Wilson takes what he gets in terms of running ability. He also may be without Harvin and Rice. In addition, this is a very run heavy offense limiting his upside. Ryan and Kap should be in the top of tier 3. Ryan is obvious, but Kap is in the top of this tier due to his goal line scoring opportunities. Almost every TD the Niners score will run through Kap (with the exception of the Gore TD's).

I think Matt Ryan may end up surprising a lot of people this year. People think of Ryan and see "boring" attached to him because he can't get it done in the playoffs, and just pass him up for the likes of more "exciting" prospects in Kaepernick and RG3. Well, last time I checked, normal scoring fantasy football leagues are won and lost during the NFL's regular season, not during the NFL's playoffs. This is what kept Peyton Manning at the top of the fantasy football QB world for years and years. It definitely wasn't his postseason stats.

Fair enough.  We'll just have to have different points of view (which is part of the fun in fantasy football).  He did have his struggles early on.  But it wasn't like he was horrid more like average.

But when the 'chips are down'  he made it count for fantasy owners.  He's only going into his third year, so there is room for growth as a QB.  We've pretty much seen the ceiling for the other 'elite' guys, I can't say the same for Cam.

Now if you are asking me if I want him as my real life QB, I'll pass.

I don't think of him as boring but he's going into his sixth year, how much more is there we can expect to surprise us?  He threw for a career year last year, I think of that as his ceiling.  Which isn't bad at all for fantasy purposes.  He's a very good fantasy QB and someone I would have on my team.

You're talking 4500-5000 yards & 30-35 TDs.

True, and thats not bad by any means. By saying that he'll surprise, I'm saying that some publications are pushing even the likes of Jay Cutler above Ryan, not to mention the oft injury prone RG3, and Kaepernick, who we've yet to see an extended, full season performance from. Who knows if he's actually consistent or not. While he was an excellent player in the run that he had, who knows if he can put that together, or improve on it, for a full season.

Biggest question is, what is everyone's strategy regarding drafting a QB this year? Are most going to wait on one until the mid rounds with how deep the class is this year? And where would you draft each guy at?

Most of the leagues I'm in are 16-team leagues so QBs tend to get pushed up a bit. In one I have the 4th overall pick and I'm considering (not strongly) a QB there. When the top 16 guys are off the board the top level guys become even more valuable.

Strategy is a tough thing to discuss on here.

But for me it always comes to value.  If Brees falls to me in the 3rd in a 12 team league, its a no-brainer.  I don't want to reach for a guy because the value is better at the other positions.  But I certainly don't want to be without one of the top 12 guys this year.

16 team leagues are different.  The values of the QBs do go up.  Plus you have a long wait until your next pick so this usually drives the decision to grab your QB so you aren't left out in the cold.

2 QB leagues (or any league that has a QB/RB/TE/WR flex).  QBs are a must.  I have no problem going QBs in both round 1 & 2.

I've always viewed him as an appealing QB with White, Gonzalez, Jones, and not to mention Turner in the backfield to help him out. With Steve Jax down there he should have another good year

I think he'll also come as a great value pick as well. As I've mentioned, he's being passed right now by guys who either get hurt, haven't consistently shown their talent over a long period of time, or are turnover prone. This is sad, but its the truth.

Well I take that back... maybe its not sad for the guys who get Ryan at a very low cost.. lol

Tier one
1. Aaron Rodgers

1. Brees (Payton is back, watch out)

3. Peyton (Welker/Decker/Thomas/Tamme will be killer. 2nd easiest SOS)
Tier two

4. Ryan (Julio is getting better, line is better, SJax is an upgrade, still have Roddy/Tony G, 6th easiest SOS)

5. Brady (Consistency, even without his TEs and WRs)

5. Cam (5th easiest SOS, runs better than any other QB, Smith is still good)

Tier 3

7. Kaep (Hate him, but surrounded with LOADS of talent. Boldin should help with his blocking. No Crabtree or else he'd be in tier 2)

8. Stafford (Megatron)

8. Romo (easiest SOS, inconsistent but still has Dez Bryant/Witten)

10. Russell Wilson (Loss of Harvin and maybe Rice hurts him. Sophomore slump)
Tier 4

11. Eli
11. Carson Palmer (3rd easiest SOS. Fitz could have a monster season)
13. Dalton (AJ Green)

13. Rivers (Still can throw well, just inconsistent)

13. Luck (Inconsistent, threw too many picks last season)

16. Ben

Rest are undraftable.

Flacco is too inconsistent (well, except WINNING)

RG3 is going to be injured

Cutler is too inconsistent

I would rank Cam over Ryan.  Also, what does SOS stand for?

Strength of schedule. Ryan has much more potential than Cam this year. He slipped last year and he doesn't have many targets to throw to.
