Thank you. They are so full of it. Again, I appreciate the rules on guidance on the new strike zone and no launching yourself, but the administration of it - specifically helmet to helmet and defenseless receiver is just a bunch of mularkey. But what else is to be said that hasn't already been said

OK, here it is:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=easterbrook-110719_virginia_tech_helmet_study&sportCat=nfl

It's a pretty long article.  Here's a highlight.

Yet the NFL took no action, saying that what helmet model a player chose was up to him. When, in 2006, I asked NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello why the league wouldn't issue safety standards for helmets, he replied that the NFL was waiting for NOCSAE to make a recommendation. The wait continues -- five years later, NOCSAE still hasn't said anything.

NOCSAE was a committee started to help improve helmet and player safety.

Ouch.  Another Steeler down!

What was feared to be the worst, is the worst.  Bell has been diagnosed with a Lisfranc injury.   Not sure if it will require surgery but expected to be out for at least a long while (maybe the entire season).

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/8390/leveon-bell

This obviously hurts the Steelers.  Now they'll be forced go with some combo of The Hyphen, Dwyer, and Redman.  None of who strike fear in opposing teams.

Oooooh No. That's unfortunate. There was almost an ominous tone to it. The ones that look so bad end up being fine. The ones that look not so bad are really really bad.

Funny how the Steelers took Eddie Lacy off their board due to injury concerns and now this.

He's going to have a 2nd opinion on the injury this week.  Regardless, his injury sounds pretty serious.

Thoughts on the fine for this hit

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kD6h4tPNCk

On nfl.com this hit as described as spectacular yet, he is fined for it.  SMH.

That upsets me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that hit.  I bet in the NFL Clowney would have been fined for knocking that kid;s helmet off despite the fact that was a textbook hit and a SportsCenter top play for a long time.

Oh really??? Link?

This is the one I looked at and didn't see that

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000232296/article/jon-bostic-fined-21k-for-hit-in-bearschargers-game

That would be very...trifling...for lack of a better word. It would not surprise though. I remember years ago when John Lynch said on ESPN ~'the fines for the helmet to helmet hits are somewhat of a double standard when you think about how the league sells this biggest hits dvds....'

Something to that extent. That was a looooong time ago and it was only in 2010 when they decided to pull the plug on those DVDs. I remember 2010 because that's when Ray Lew hit Dustin Keller. That particular hit was highlighted as the proper way to tackle an opponent in the video that was sent to all teams describing what's legal vs illegal after the week when 3 different players got blasted...I think it was Todd Heap, Colt McCoy, and some wide receiver. ANYWAY, John Lynch made his statement LOOOOONG before 2010 and they just kept right on selling those DVDs.

It was in the URL of the video but it has been changed now.

This is crazy, there was a MRSA outbreak at the Bucs facility that caused Nicks and the kicker, I think it's Tynes, to get the infection.  They had to seriously clean the Bucs facility.  For those who don't know, MRSA is some serious stuff.  It's a staph infection that doesn't respond to normal antibiotics.  Weird for it to happen in a football facility, it's usually something you hear about in hospitals.

Browns had a serious issue with staph a couple of years ago and had to have all of their facilities decontaminated.

Damn, I wish Lawrence Tynes had stayed with the Giants, if only so that he never would have come into contact with the virus that's required surgery to address...

MRSA isn't a virus. It's a bacteria.

Honestly, it's not that strange. While it's true you normally hear about it in hospitals the reality is the bacteria can be anywhere. It's actually pretty prevalent in gyms and locker rooms from what I've seen.

Sounds like people aren't washing their hands.

I'm about to go to Outback.

Don't tell me that lol.

*Goes into Prayer mode*

Dear football god, please don't let any players get injured for the rest of the preseason, especially ravens players. I will order the cheap meal at Outback, and the other members will help to if said wish is granted. Thanks

Regards
~SAM

Anyone else glad Reed is gone?  Seeing yet ANOTHER year of his injury drama going on made me laugh a bit, at least it's Houston dealing with it this time and not us.

Damn, most bacteria aren't antibiotic-resistant! :O

VRE and MRSA are the two most common. Bacteria can adapt. That's why it's critical to finish your ABT without stopping once you're asymptomatic like most people do. It's called a "superinfection"

Yet.  They're becoming increasingly so, especially since Penicillin is prescribed more than it probably should be.  Bacteria have very convenient ways to spread genetic material, like the R-factor plasmid.  It's becoming an increasingly serious problem that the medical community will have to address.

Telling people that is like talking to a brick wall. I was asked a few weeks ago if I had any leftover antibiotics, when I said I finish the full course, I got looked at like I had three heads.

Are they still prescribing Levaquin for MRSA? Because the tendon injury warnings on Levaquin aren't gonna put any peace in anyone's mind. Ruptured tendons or MRSA - take your pick...

Guys... Brady has a cut on his hand.

Insert plagues and doomsday. And yes, this was a thing that was highlighted on the TV.

Possible solution...

Care to explain? Or at least attempt?

They called it novel, it's a buzzword in my field of study.  I just find it funny when scientists use it.
