Clark's connections with Caldwell make him the most logical option, but I doubt we sign anyone unless Pitta's injury proves to be more serious than initially expected. Dickson and Furstenburg can hold down the fort until Pitta gets back.

I think we get Visanthe Shiancoe for that reason though.

It's worse than expected

Personally I'd like Ed Dickson and Matt Ferguson (or whatever his last name is). But if I had to choose I would pick Dallas Clark

Furstenburg. Get to know that name sir, he is impressing at camp already in the passing game.

Remember last year when Pitta broke his hand and missed all of preseason?  I thought Bajema did pretty well in his absence.  If we don't sign anyone, I think Bajema can be a viable number 2.

But if we do, I think I'd take Clark.  I was never a fan of Boss, and Shiancoe has dropped off mightily, more than Clark.

True, but Clark has better hands and is familiar with the system.

That's why I want him

It's a different system really.

I'm betting on Furstenburg over Bajema in regards to a receiving TE. We need a number 2 for both WR and TE now.

*Disclaimer*

This is not a vent or a positive thread. This is a thread telling us about our options

*end disclaimer*

Pitta's Injury hits us hard, but is it fatal? No. It's a big loss but our season is FAR from over.

Why? Because of three men

Jim Caldwell

Joe Flacco
Ray Rice

Jim looks like he's great as a OC. Rice is an all pro, and Flacco is a SB MVP.

But can you fire Joe's "gun" without the bullets? No

Ray Rice is the hollow point bullet. His versatility makes the defenses cringe. Flacco's arms pisses them off enough, but having a guy like Rice is a luxury.

So I predict, the offense will still be dynamic.

But how? Here's what I think is in store for the future.

1. Sign The Replacement for Pitta.

Even if we move Juice to TE, we don't have enough experience there. Dickson is good, but after that the depth is thin. Bajema is a beast blocker but doesn't have the best hands.

So who do we get?

http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/topic/53568-te-free-agents/

One of these guys. Any of em will do.

In my scenario though, I will use Dallas Clark. He's a pure receiving TE who has experience with Jim.

Vet Min should do it

While being injury prone, he will be the #2 option. Reducing his injuries a bit.

2. Resign Vonta Leach

I love Juice. I really do, but we need a stud blocker now.

We are as balanced an offense as you can get. We need Leach on running downs.  Because the run opens up the pass. Very simple.

3. Have fun predicting who the #2 WR will be.

Ozzie would've picked up a WR if he thought it was necessary. So obviously one of these guys is doing something right.

I think it's Tandon. I think he's a big contributor this season. He's got the talent, he just needs confidence. How do you get confidence.

Play more.

To the people complaining about us not having any proven talent, you become proven by getting playing time. One of these guys has to be good. Ozzie would've picked someone up if he did not trust the talent.

4. No Huddle

This one's a given. Flacco excels in the no huddle. One of the best in it. Run it more. Simple.

5.More Two TE sets

"SAM. WTH? We just lost our best TE! Why do more two TE sets? OMG THE SKY IS FALLING"

^^

That's how all of you sound right now. And that's ok. Cause I'm worried too.

But here's why this works. It makes the offense unpredictable.

This gives Flacco two guys going over the middle and two going deep, while the RB and the FB become checkdown options.

In the no huddle, this is an awesome option to have. If all else fails, check it down to Rice. Good things happen when you give it to him (in the regular season)

6. Rotate Pierce in more.

Pierce is a stud. He adds a whole other element to the offense that I did not think we would have. Power running + speed. He's the strongest RUNNER we have. By doing this it also makes the offense, you guessed it UNPREDICTABLE.

7. Pray for the return of Dennis Pitta.

We don't know if he's coming back, and if he does it's huge for us. He has some of the best hands in the NFL. But we as fans can only pray for him.

Is Pitta a huge loss? Hell to the yeah. But remember, we lost the DPOY last year and won the SB. We can overcome this.

Though I am very  worried, Harbs and Ozzie are good enough to get the job done. We aren't screwed unless Flacco goes down (*knocks on wood*)

I liked Clark for a while. I'd love to have Clark on this team as well as Visanthe. Both would be great! Considering that we had Visanthe here, however, I'd probably lean towards him. Let's see what happens. I think either would be a great signing at this point. I'd even be happy with Leach back.

Don't we have enough Pitta/TE Threads in RT already?  I must respectfuly ask the Mods to merge this with one of the other Pitta Fallout Threads.

Kevin Boss' name was brought-up, earlier. Now, granted, he was injured, last season, as a Chief and didn't much with the Raiders, the year before. But, when he was with the Giants, Boss was one of Eli Manning's favorite targets, especially in the red-zone.

Any reason why he's a free agent? And, is he worth taking a look at?

What does "in the awakening of Pittas injury" mean?

Did you mean "in the wake of Pittas injury"?

Seriously, I'm confused.

lol... it was already edited by the time I read the initial post but I still got a good laugh from this ....

Most teams only carry one 'good' TE.  The Ravens and Patriots have been exceptions.  Dickson looked great in practice yesterday so I'm guessing we don't sign anyone big.

I'm eager to see what Furstenburg shows in camp, especially with more opportunities now that Pitta is out. He could be a wildcard option for significant playing time.

Ditto. This injury could be a blessing in disguise. I hate to say.

Why not get both Clark and Shiancoe for veteran minimum. However, I feel Clark would be the right choice if the price is right because we can get blocking TEs for cheap, but not pass catching TEs like Clark.

The first I thought of was Chris Cooley. Then I read he just retired. Beside Shancoe and Clark I really don't like the TE free agents around. The WR market is a bit better. There is of course the usual suspects. I think that a guy like Austin Collie would be a good fit (depends on wether he can be cleared, he had those concussions). Maybe a dude like Early Doucet could make it here. Damnit, just woke up from a night out. Worst hangover news ever :()

I wouldn't be surprised to see us go with 4 TE's at this point.  Dickson, Shiancoe (assuming he signs), Furst/Bajema, and Juszczyk.

Furstenburg is a good player, has been since college.

If the notion of us carrying 4 TEs is true, and that Furstenberg is good enough to make the team, then I don't see us taking another TE unless someone really good becomes available in the final round of cuts. I believe it may very well be Dickson, Bajema and Furstenberg. Kyle Juice will play TE/FB.

he always looked great in preseason & in camp.    Mostly the big reason why his filled in as #1 before seasons starts.   Then, when NFL game starts he just disappears.     We need more than Dickson.

I think the kid can handle the position...no real reason behind it, I just have a feeling he can get it done in the NFL..but its not very often if at all the Ravens play an undrafted free agent in his rookie year

I say we sign Leach and roll with Juice and Dickson in the two TE set.

honestly think Leach is holding off on signing because he can afford to miss camp...but im also beginning to believe the Ravens may not want to wait and may need to move that money on to someone else
