In the wake of Pitta's injury, we are going to need to find a temporary solution to solve this problem until he comes back....

So lets start.

This means Dickson is getting more playing time. Dickson can contribute. He's proved that before in the past. So who is on the market?

Dallas Clark
Not only does have have my last name, he's also one of the better pass catchers avaliable. This would be the guy I would want. He's familiar with Caldwell and Flacco is the hell of a lot better than Freeman. Bad Blocker, but Pitta reminds me of a younger version of him. He's a very good option

Visanthe Shiancoe
Farve's go to option in MIN. Very reliable target in the red zone as well. He'd be my second option.
I'd love to have a guy like him.

David Thomas
He's a pretty good TE as well. He's got experience in a Super Bowl and Brees would look his way sometimes

Randy McMicheal
He's been a solid contributer in San Diego. While older, he played a lot with Gates being often injured.

Dante Rosario.
Similar to McMicheal. Just younger

Kevin Boss
Was very reliable target for Eli Manning a few seasons ago. He's bounced around some crappy teams.

We have options we can use for 6-8 weeks.

Which is your favorite

I would do a poll but I'm on mobile

I like Clark first, Shiancoe second.  I don't see any of the other guys being much better than what we already have.  Thomas maybe, but the other 3 probably offer the same as Bajema/Furstenburg.

I'd go Clark too as he knows Caldwell. He's got really good hands and he knows the system.

What does "in the awakening of Pittas injury" mean?

Did you mean "in the wake of Pittas injury"?

Seriously, I'm confused.

No being Poe :P. That's his job.

Yeah he can't really block at all, but neither could Pitta.  Clark gives us a reliable set of hands that won't do anything flashy, but will get the job done.  It really depends what we want, if we touch the market at all.  If we want hands, we should go Clark.  If we want a blocking TE that can also catch, Shiancoe is the obvious choice.

I delegate my work from time to time.  He was right on the money.

Anyway, I think it's fairly certain that VS will sign after having sat in on BAL's training camp.

Maybe, but he point I was making is that VS is MORE LIKELY to sign wih BAL, since Ozzie invited him to sit in on training camp.

I'm totaly shocked that Todd Heap's name has not been brought-up... :P

However, on topic, if the Ravens plan on pursuing a free agent tight end, I much rather have Dallas Clark (than anyone else, mentioned). Clark knows Jim Caldwell and his spread offense. And, while Clark is 34 years old, now, he has a "similar" build as Dennis Pitta, he can still run routes pretty efficiently and still has solid hands. He wouldn't replace what Pitta could do on the football field; but, Clark can fit in nicely as the #2 TE, behind Ed Dickson, and be a decent replacement, while Dennis Pitta recovers.

Maybe it's just me, but electing to go with Visanthe Shiancoe (if visiting Ozzie Newsome, yesterday, means anything) seems like a bad move. He missed an entire year of football and he's a different type of tight end than what Pitta brings to the table.

Clark is an aged version of Pitta for sure he would be a nice fit if our guys don't step up to the plate.

Clark is the easy, temporary fix.  Shiancoe would be fine, but Shiancoe AND Brandon Lloyd would be awesome, if we can manage that.

If we end up signing Leach as it appears we will, any chance we simply use Juszczyk at TE? Wasn't that his main role in college anyway?

I love me some Heap.  But we already have one TE that might possibly go on IR.

I don't think Juice has a true "role" per se.  He's more of a swiss army knife that can play anywhere.  If we were to sign Leach, it's certainly possible that Juice spends a lot more time as a true TE than he would have otherwise.  He's the wildcard in this situation (pending Leach returns) in that he can technically play TE as well as FB.  It's all whether the Ravens are comfortable using him there full time at the NFL level.

Well at least this will take away Flacco's security blanket.  Who knows, maybe this will unleash Flacco into a crazy distributor.

Boss. Would be inexpensive, decent blocker and pretty reliable hands.

I agree, Boss is the youngest by years and would give us some good run blocking.

True, but Clark has better hands and is familiar with the system.

That's why I want him

To me, Dallas Clark is just a name today.  How we picture him, isn't him anymore.  He hasn't generated any interest and even a team like NE hasn't come knocking.

That may be true.
But you can't doubt the familiarity of the system he has. He'd at least be a solid contributor

Who knows maybe Clark could feel inspired playing for a winner? Maybe I'm just reaching. It's just panic mode right now.

Personally I'd like Ed Dickson and Matt Ferguson (or whatever his last name is). But if I had to choose I would pick Dallas Clark

Clark's connections with Caldwell make him the most logical option, but I doubt we sign anyone unless Pitta's injury proves to be more serious than initially expected. Dickson and Furstenburg can hold down the fort until Pitta gets back.
