[News] Tight End Dennis Pitta Dislocates Hip, To Miss At Least Season Opener

348 posts in this topic

One of many players we could not afford to lose. Dickson better step it up. What a Major blow.

Please don't be a season ending injury.

Good Luck Dennis. Get Well Soon. We need you.

I couldn't I know a lot about Shiancoe, but as much as I remember, he is the kind of TE Pitta is - more catching than blocking. So, if he's medically OK, it would certainly make sense to get him if Pitta is really out for the whole season.

Leach, Shiancoe, a veteran WR - I doubt we'll get all three, although IMHO we'd need all three. And, however sad to say this, but I think Leach is the least important of the three. We need a good TE, I guess there's no doubt about it. Also, I can't help noticing how none of the young WR's have so far been highlighted as being very good and emerging. And if Pitta - the guy most of us were considering as Boldin's primary "replacement" (not as WR, but as primary slot catcher) is out, we need someone, a proven commodity. And, as far as it can be judged by the lavish coverage of the camp, so far the young guns aren't showing they'd be better than good - and simply good won't do here.

I think we can be optimistic about Dickson stepping up as the primary TE, because he's already showed in 2011 that he can be very good and effective - and he had a good post season this winter, too.

Still, I think we are in need of a veteran TE and WR. That leaves Leach out. not necessarily because we can be sure Juszczyk will replace him (though we hope he will) - but because FB is the most "easily" omissible of these three. If one of the HAS TO be left out, it should IMHO be the FB.

But, of course Ozzie is in the position to make the best decision. And we can trust he will.

Calm down people. What you're hearing all over the Internet about Pitta being done for the year has not been confirmed yet.

ESPN reported it first, hearing it from an unnamed source. Until the team announces it, then nothing is definitive.

The silver lining is that since this happened early in camp, then Dickson, Furstenburg (or Shiancoe/Clark) and Juszczyk will get plenty of time (and reps) with Flacco, so they should be better prepared for the season. Also now Flacco will have to spread the ball around more getting the other WRs, besides Torrey, more involved too, which should make them all better overall.

Hope Pitta gets well and back on the field ASAP. We are a better team with him then without him (plus he's one of my favorites...jeez  SMH).

Oh and trust in Harbs and Caldwell i think they should be able to handle this situation

They will. Luckily, they still have a lot of time and some cap space - plus one of the best FO's - to make the necessary steps.

I'm glad this hasn't been offically confirmed by the team yet, but if it's true I think it happened at a good time rather than in game 1, 2, 3, etc.. This will give Flacco more time to get comfortable with other targets before the games really start counting. Dickson has improved and I'm confident that he won't be dropping as many passes as we were use to seeing. We have a lot of targets that are fighting for a spot, this will give them an extra push. Hoping for the best, Go Ravens!

Schefter is one of the most trustable sources of info. The guy must have an inside man network comparable only to that of the CIA :)

That doesn't mean of course that he can't be wrong - but the chances are he isn't.

Not that anybody here would be sad if it turned out he was.

We still have plenty of weapons yes losing a fan favorite sucks but we have a ton of talent to spread the ball around and count for his production. FB's RB's TE's WR's lots of talent. and a tiny bit of cap room.

Oh, and regardless of how much time Pitta will have to miss, I'd like to remind everybody what coach Billick said right after they lost Jamal Lewis, their primary RB in the camp after they won the Super Bowl: he said something like "We will to concentrate on what we have, as opposed to what we haven't."

Great one. And especially relevant now.

If he needs an open reduction to fix the dislocation then yes he will be done for the year. so some one telling Adam Schefter could be that they expect surgery

This was Schefter's tweet:

"Ravens TE Dennis Pitta is expected to be out for the year with a dislocated hip, per ESPN source."

Like I said before, Schefter is just repeating what ESPN reported from their unnamed source.

Schefter may have gotten more info from other sources, or he may not have. But until now, he hasn't reported anything new, so there's been NO CONFIRMATION YET from either Schefter or the Ravens.

Miss Boldin yet? So people know, Alex Silvestro is new to the tight end position. He played defensive end during his college career at Rutgers. So tight end is not deep either.

Adam Shefter 3 hours ago tweeted that Pitta was out for at least the Denver game. An hour ago he tweeted that an espn source told him that Pitta was "out for the year." Which would be horrible!

Injuries like this happen to all teams. Heck, look at what has happened to all the pass catchers in N.E. They lost a couple TE's and Wes Welker, their leading receiver, like Boldin was ours. People aren't saying their not going to make the playoffs. In fact, most are picking them to win the division outright, still!

I noticed that the Eagles, lost a valuable player, forget who now, but my point is, it's tought but to be expected. Remember last year, we lost Sizzle for a few months, Lewis for a spell, Ngata was banged up, Reed was banged up, and etc....

We will be fine and should consider ourselves lucky in that we have Dickson, who has been a starter and still has time to learn Pitta's role as prob. our #1 TE now.

NO FEAR!

Harbaugh takes a page from the Belichick book. Exploiting NFL rules to better his team. Pitta shows back up in time for the stretch run. Meanwhile, more urgency to step up for the others, which is priority one. Also, Dixon lets us know if he's a true NFL starter.

Now it's certain, we need veteran help. hopefully shiancoe didn't come just to see us practice, cause he could be an option

And by the way, don't trust ESPN. all they're good for is the miami heat and tebow news

I think it's time for us to sign a veteran receiver or tight end like Brandon Lloyd or Dallas Clark. We can't go into the season with only Torrey Smith as a decent target.
