[News] Tight End Dennis Pitta Dislocates Hip, To Miss At Least Season Opener

348 posts in this topic

If nothing else, there's two definite benefits to this injury.

1. It very likely saves us some money. Pitta was going into a contract year, and if he produced at the level a lot of people were expecting him to, he would have gotten a significant raise next season (probably at the expense of losing a player or two). Now, the Ravens can essentially pay him much less on a short-term, prove it deal for a player with a potentially career-threatening injury.

2. There are no longer any excuses for any of our young WRs. This is the year. If some or none of these guys can separate and prove their worth, then we know it's time to spend a high pick on a stud again. All of these guys, from Doss to Thompson to Streeter, are now officially on notice. If they can be anything more than standard WR depth, they MUST show it this season. They shouldn't get any more opportunities than that.

ESPN has a "source" who leaked Protected Health Information in violation of federal law - ever heard of HIPAA? So, in and of itself the source is suspect. Everybody else just took that story and ran with it.

Interesting how BR.com is staying so quiet. They CAN'T release anything official until Pitta himself allows them to. At this point we don't really know anything.

That's all great and wonderful, but this isn't a new development in the Sports World. 99.99% of the time, the media is leaked injury information long before any team officially confirms anything, and they are accurate in their reports very, very, very often.

Also, if this is a so-called "violation of federal law", approximately how many times has the Federal Government filed a lawsuit against a media outlet, doctor, person, etc. for releasing health information illegally?

The next case I hear of will be the first case I hear of. It may be illegal, but if a law exists that nobody ever enforces, its a lot closer to being legal than it is to being illegal.

Shaincoe signed 1 year vets minimum don't know how much that is but I hope there is enough meat left on the bone for Leach.

I agree with this. So sad right now. I have faith in Flacco, but other than Boldin, Pitta had the best hands on the team. I don't wanna hear about Doss until he proves himself in game. Not just stuff he's doing in training camp.

Seems like there's a war between the Broncos and us about who'll miss more starters Week#1. they (probably) lost Von Miller due to suspension - we lost Pitta. Now I see they lost their C Koppen for the season....

I say let them win this one - and let's win the game Week#1.

It really irks a segment here that the Boldin trade was a huge mistake to placate Harbs for being forced to fire his mentor Cam! Super Bowl won - he wanted to get rid of the voices he could in the locker room! Nobody can convince me that it was about 7 million bucks!

Nothing to gain by repeating it, true, but it is not something the "Best HC in the NFL", the "greatest Franchise in history" and all that tripe!

But relax,... Oz will find our WR and now maybe a TE in August when teams shed good players because that's what a great GM does,... not "the greatest" not "the best"... but a great GM and consummate professional of an excellent Front Office with a "good-and-learning" HC!

Keeping it real!

Mystigo...  You're post from 9:56 this morning....

I have to smile and say...  You were right...  I am so tired of everyone saying that it was a bad move to "let Boldin go".  Boldin made his choice.  All the Ravens did was make sure he had a nice "home" to go to...  And Harbs did the right thing.  Like you said.  He wanted to get rid of the disruptive voices

So Ozzie and Co., goes and does exactly what some of us are knowledgeable enough to realize...  He signs Visanthe Shiancoe.  A veteran TE with experience on a great team (a couple of them actually), and a little (enough) Baltimore background to feel at home and have some loyalty.

I think Shiancoe is a good move for us.  Feeling a lot better tonight...  But Pitta is one of my favorite Ravens.  I hope he recovers and gets back here.

I would honestly like to see Pitta rest the whole season, because the first thing I thought about was Bo Jackson's hip injury, of course this is different, but I would rather him be healthy for the rest of his career instead of trying to rush back.

I was blessed enough to be at the practice today.. Ed Dickson was looking good, let's give the guy a chance. :)

No, it's not good enough lol. Boldin was dam sure not the fastest. But yet he made the catches we desperately needed to win games. Dennis Pitta wasn't that fast either. It's all about route running, anticipation, awareness, and toughness. So what does having the fastest bunch mean.  I hope you don't think were going to be running a bunch of Hail Mary passes.

Im talking about who we have right now not last season. And I can remember when fans were asking for more speed when we had Boldin, Mason, Heap, and Housh. Now all we have is speed. So if people want to call Flacco elite then I expect him to play like it and carry this team through all our adversities.

I, too, believe it's an excellent move, Mom! I think of ex-Viking Matty Birk coming here years ago from the "Black & Blue" Division to the "Smash-Mouth" AFC-North and fell right into place!

Similar to the Corey Graham acquisition, Shiancoe comes in and, hopefully, fills that immediate need for that TE going across the middle and up the seam! But, he's on a SB caliber team and wants a ring too!

Mom, I think we may have just gotten a bit hungrier in the hunt!

Over 3 thousand post? You are nuts! Anyway...Deonte Thompson will pick up the loss of Bouldin.Dickson up his game, enough said!!!!

I want to believe that Deonte (and Doss) can contribute to our depth at WR! I want to believe that similar to Joe E~Lite, Cam stifled Deonte's and Tandon's development and that under Caldwell the coaches will feel comfortable enough to promote them!

Yet, I think, even with the Shiancoe acquisition, our guy over the middle is presently on some other NFL team and won't be available until August! :)

I still don,t buy your idea of rookies not being able to perform as pro football players.I know most of them have been playing ball for 10 years.

Hit a Plus, aiming at "Quote" but it's all good! I agree with the paying ball for 10 years, I question that playing for 10 years makes one "able to perform as pro football players"! Arena league? Canadian? It's never a sure thing!

I will concede that it may have been, as I mentioned on your other quote, that Cam may have been to blame! Yet, we have had miserable luck drafting QBs and WRs until Joe and Torrey! All our prior WR stars have been "retreads" and the window is closing on the quartet of Thompson, Williams, Reed and Doss!

Thompson and Doss will likely get promoted, or salvaged for another year with Streeter and Mellette! Not so with Williams and Reed if Thompson improves in the S/T Return role!

Please don't bring Housh into this debate. Because I was upset when we first signed that traitor, let alone when he dropped that pass. And Todd Heap was the man. He was our best receiver at one point in time. So don't go there.

Vonta Leach Just signed with the Ravens baby!!

Where'd you hear this?

Right now all I can find being reported is that he's at the Ravens facility taking a physical, so he should get signed to the team soon, but has it happened already?

edit, never mind. Just refreshed this thread and read the wonderful news!

Obviously we're better with Pitta then without him.

But between Dickson, Shiancoe, Furstenburg, and Juszczyk, we should have enough at TE.

And with Leach's return we can lean on a physical power running style when needed.

We should still have a balanced offense, as planned.

What are you talking about? You're completely missing the point. Maybe its you who should "study the game more" or maybe you're just dealing with "amnesia". BAM, got you back using your own words. I guess I win this battle. But don't worry, we might cross paths again some other day and you might be the victor in future battles. And yes, there will be blood.
