On a scale of 1-10...how screwed are we without Pitta?

14 posts in this topic

Serious question.

I haven't panicked about anything all offseason. But this is a major blow. Outside of Torrey we don't have a single reliable pass catcher. I feel like this is at least an 8.

I'd add a poll but I'm on my phone.

Less than we were screwed when we lost the reigning defensive player of the year last year. The sky isn't falling.

Not at all.
Sure Pitta is a big blow, but Dickson is a good TE in his own right, and Visante is a pretty reliable pass catcher.

It's a blow but we are not talking about the Pats losing Gronk here. This is Pitta. A classic catch and get tackled TE.

Granted his hands are some of the best in the NFL, but we can overcome this. When we overcame losing Suggs,Ngata,Webb, I believe we can overcome anything(except for losing Flacco in a season).

Besides, he's EVENTUALLY going to come back. We are not talking about a season ending injury here.

This is a lot better than losing Suggs last year.

6.5, because he's a proven target, but again TRUST OZZIE.

Thanks SAM. But I was actually going to go closer to 0. Every wideout and TE is going to acknowledge they have to share the load and a new star(s) will be born. It sucks, but what matters is how healthy the team is in December. Teams are still going to have to account for Dickson, Furstenberg likely makes the team and handles some of the blocking duties, if not Bajema

I would say it highly depends on who steps up in his stead. If Furstenburg is the balanced(athletic, blocking, pass catching) steal of a TE that he supposed to be then we will look back on this as a blessing in disguise as we decide who to let go out of Dickson or Pitta and we will laugh at the predictions of doom that plague the Ravens every year it seems. If Furstenburg validates his status as a UDFA and can't make a dent in the passing game then things aren't looking too good considering the TE crop in free agency. The next step for us on offense was to be more 2 TE sets along with 3 WR sets and sets with Juice as the H-Back. Dickson can slide into Pitta's role as a receiver but we need a legitimate receiver who can also do good work blocking wise at TE#2. Without that we have to go back to more of the old offense and resign Leach for sure while also having gone from 2 clear possession receivers to none.

So in regards to the first situation I would say a 2, mainly for the "problem" of choosing 2 of the 3 TEs at the end of the year. I'm sure this forum would be torn apart as well as the coaches. In the second situation I would say an 8 because while it isn't the end of our season like it is for the Eagles, it certainly puts a damper on our hopes of another Division Title defense if he misses more than 2 or 3 games. Really depends on length of time out and Furstenburg.

Not focusing on division games as much as our schedule vs Bengals early in the year. Your missing the point that we still need to win more games period then the Bengals. Look up the St Louis Rams last year.

depends on when pitta can come back i suppose.

if he can come back 'healthy' for rest of the season early, this wouldnt be much of a problem

Exactly.  While we're on the point though, I'd venture that BAL will go AT LEAST 4-2 in the division.  A sweep of CLE and a loss or 2 to CIN or PIT.

Alas, yet another missed point that was not actually stated.

Just get in the playoffs baby. If you're a 5 or 6 seed, you gotta play 3 games to get to the Super Bowl. If you're a Division winner, you might still have to play 3 games to get to the Super Bowl

....now which unstated point did I miss this time?

4-2 is my prediction as well.

Not going to get into a pissing match over this but you did miss the clear point that winning a Division title means having more overall wins. Division wins is a tiebreaker fyi, so why would that have to be stated? We also won both Superbowls with no bye so I'm fine with that. For your last point I believe the winner of the AFC North will get the bye along with the Broncos and I'm all for an extra week of rest since Ravens won't fall prey to bye week rust im sure. Anything that helps us defend the title I'm for bro.

I think any of the 4 division champs have a good chance at winning a bye.  DEN, HOU, IND, BAL, CIN and NE could easily all be at least 12-4.  It should come down to the wire as the weeks progress.
