TE Dennis Pitta dislocates/fractures hip, out for the year

Ed Dickson just got his plate full, but can he handle it.

Also, looks like we will go 3 WR more often.

Dickson is a good TE. This sucks but were blowing this out of proprtion.

He will be back.

What I'm worried about is that he might not be in football shape when he comes back

He won't be his self until playoffs.

On the count of 3 take your fingers off the panic button. I remember last year when we lost Suggs people thought we were finished. We struggled without Suggs to get a pass rush but it didn't kill our year or prevent us from getting to and winning the Super Bowl.

Seriously chill out guys.

Well Dickson is certainly no Pitta and never will be but this is actually a big win for him as well. Think about it, he becomes the primary receiving TE while Furstenburg blocks and is secondary receiving wise. If all works out we could still move to the 2 TE offense instead of going back to I form. It really is all dependent on which TE we have that steps up into a balanced role behind Dickson. I think Furstenburg really breaks out thanks to this.

Edit: This isn't as big as Eagles losing Maclin imo because we have options and he won't be out that long. No need to press the panic button.

Dickson is a good tight end, and I'm pretty sure he knew what he had to do this season on the plane ride back from Super Bowl XLVII.

Just for the record:

Dennis Pitta - 102 rec, 1075 yds, 10TD

Ed Dickson - 86 rec, 905 yds, 6TD

It's not like we're talking Gronk/Hernandez v Jake Ballard/Michael Hoomanawanui......or Pitta v Billy Bajema for that matter.

Geez...

It's not like we lost Flacco. There are some vet viable options on the market that can be servicable for 6-8 weeks.

Losing Suggs was a lot worse than this.

Granted, it does suck though

True. But neither was Suggs. Besides, with the way everyone is reacting I don't think we are going to the playoffs anymore. I think we've lost faith again :P.

Any chance this means we use Kyle Juszczyk at TE? If I'm not mistaken wasn't he used mainly in a catching capacity ala TE in college? Especially if the rumors about us looking to bring back Leach end up to be true, this could make sense. Have Leach our FB and Juice as a TE opposite Ed until Dennis can return.

It's an injury.  Every team is going to have them.  The good thing is the AFC is really thin in talent.

EDIT: Not really talent, just not as many good teams.

Eh you are missing the point completely because it isn't about Pitta vs Dickson but Q and Pitta vs Dickson and (?) in regards to our possession game. No one is saying the sky is falling, but the defense will definitely be a little more respected now that people calm down their hopes of a record setting offense and realize we are still a defensive team. I believe we will find an answer to what i was saying above and I'm sure it will be some Ozzie magic, but lets not be blind here. Also how does this affect other signing guys? Wonder if Leach is going to up his price. Lol.

How can we not make the playoffs in the AFC? Those people you are referring to definitely are going overboard.

A good day for Leach, indeed.

Oh....I guess I missed that part of your argument somehow.

I think whoever emerges as the other guy (?) will have been refined by the fire and sharpened by the steel as John Harbaugh says. And to think, we went into back-to-back seasons where everyone was worried and concerned about the offensive line and the defensive backs, and both seasons those concerns were quickly allayed by the incumbents...

Pitta is having surgery. Not a good sign. 3 months at least. Seldom can players come back in the same season and be themselves. We gotta make a trade. We have too many question marks in offense.

We're most likely not going to be able to make trade.  We're probably just going to have to eat it.

Depending on the amount of games he will miss, here are some free agent tight ends. Dallas Clark, Kevin Boss, Visanthe Shiancoe and David Thomas.

My thoughts are I rather just see what we can do with Juice and Furstenburg behind Dickson.

This is a huge blow and we will have to see if Flacco can run this offense with all these new faces.

Hope it's not a Bo Jax situation

that's impossible, the problem with him is that the surgery was never performed and the hip never received blood flow.

8 weeks is the minimum for that injury. Not 12 weeks. It very well could be 12 weeks possibly 16 weeks to get him up to speed and in the proper shape.

Pitta in surgery. Doesn't sound good.

The fact that Dennis Pitta required surgery to repair his dislocated hip is obviously not a good sign for medical outlook, a serious injury
[/font]

It's good the surgery was done this soon. That means quite a bit actually. It sucks he needs the surgery but he may not have needed the surgery. He may have just decided to do it to ensure proper blood flow. They'll put him in a cast and give him good nutrition and he should be able to recover.

After surgery it may take more than the season.  It's rough for him financially too, contract year.

Doesn't sound good at all

Don't like the idea of Dickson and bajema being our TE's

Just talked to a physical therapy nurse who says "do not panic". Sometimes they have to take them into surgery just so that they can be knocked out to reset the hip. Apparently the process is so difficult and painful with a hip that anesthesia is required. Doesn't mean he had to be cut.

I highly doubt that. In fact the surgery should actually accelerate the healing process not delay it. By surgically putting the acetabulum back in place you ensure and guarantee proper blood flow which is the primary complication of this disease process.

This is true. I work as a nurse at Union Memorial and they do these things all the time. It's not uncommon. Usually a sedative is given to numb the pain but I think there's a good chance they cut him but even still I don't think it's what people are making it out to be.
