TE Dennis Pitta dislocates/fractures hip, out for the year

If joe just took a tiny bit less...we would still have Q. If joe doesn't perform, I'll call Q our true MVP. At the end of the day, this is what determines how great a qb is. Being able to make something out of nothing.

Do you realize that Anquan Boldin was only signed through 2013?  This would have been his final year in Baltimore on that contract.  He was set to make $6 million.  Joe Flacco is only making $6.8 million in 2013.  So for Flacco to take as much less this year as Boldin would have made, Flacco would only be getting paid $800k this year.  Totally unrealistic.  Flacco's contracted did not prevent us from keeping Boldin.  Flacco practically couldn't have been asked to take less for 2013, and 2013 is the primary year that matters when talking about Boldin since it was the only year left on his contract.  The reason we didn't want his $6 million salary this year wasn't so we could pay Flacco  $6.8 million instead of $800k, it was so we could replenish the defense.

I am just glad we didn't draft a reciever. That would have been stupid.

Maybe we can sign another linebacker, or a safety ?

Technically we did draft a WR. IT was the defense that needed rebuilding this year, not the offense.

You're going to have holes somewhere, no matter what you do.  Would you rather not have a Linebacker or Safety?  Or DT?  When we were thin on them as well.

Anyone know how his contract situation will be affected by this injury? Is there a precedent for signing a UFA who was on IR the year before? Does the original team keep him usually? Is it usually a 1-year contract?

I guess Pitta will get a 1 year deal next offseason, the Ravens want to see if he can come back from the injury and Pitta wants to prove himself for a great payday in 2015

That would be a huge disappointment for Pitta.  He surely wants to sign a deal with more long-term security than a one year contract.  I bet if that's what we offer, he'll sign a longer deal elsewhere.  I know it would be nice to see what he can do after returning healthy, but he has already shown he is a productive NFL TE, and he will get more multiple years, for sure.

Haha!

Next thing we know Joe's gonna be wearing a #FREEHERNANDEZ hat in the same pose he wore that " RECKLESS" one.

The silver lining is we should see more blocking at TE, something that Pitta was never known for.  Along with the re-signing of Leach, this can only bode well for the run game and pass protection.

i hold my hand up. I wanted hernandez in the draft in 2010. I was shocked he wasn't taken in the early 2nd round..

but he won't get nearly as much money as he would get when he shows next year that he can still be as productive as he was before his injury.

Also that we played against man coverage more, and Dickson should be better vs man. Pitta is better against zone.

He knows better than anyone now that he has to take the money when he can.  This proves what bad can happen when you gamble and play out a contract year.

I wouldn't be surprised if we offered him something longer than, but with playing time incentives that could be hit if he returns to form.

Is there any address or place we can mail get well cards and support letter to Dennis at?  I would really like to send him a card.

He'll have zero leverage and will likely have to sign a one-year 'prove it' deal.

I guarantee he gets more than one year offered from someone.  He certainly wouldn't sign one.  He now knows the worst that can happen when you are playing the last year of a contract.  He won't get top TE money, though, but it will be more than one year.
