14-team, 2 qb, .5 ppr, auction draft fantasy league

17 posts in this topic

I really want to try an auction style draft this year, so I created this league with a non-standard set-up to see what happens ;)

Looking for 14 teams total, rosters go QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/R/T, Q/W/R/T, K, DEF, BN, BN, BN, BN

Scores are standard, with .5 ppr and some small bonuses (eg. +40 yard plays) and some penalties

(specially on defense) in an effort to make all positions valuable.

Please post here if you want to join and I'll send info. Comments and requests are welcome ;)

At first, I was like I can't do another league on here.

But then I see the Auction set up, and I am like maybe I can.  I don't get to play in enough auction leagues over the years.  So its very tempting.

I'd like to see what the interest level is like.

Really, I need an official answer.

I can't speak for the OP, but it sounds like this is totally free to play.  We'll have to wait for the 'official' confirmation though.

figured that much but how exactly does one bid and win over the next GM?

Alright here goes:

Pretty much any team has a shot at any player.  There is no waiting your turn like a snake draft, where you see a  player you are targeting disappear.

Each team is set up with a $ budget (fake money Mod 3).  You have to spend your budget wisely.  Each team in the league then nominates a player (w/ a bid) to go onto the auction block.  Then it's like a normal auction until he's sold to the higher bidder.   Then the next nomination comes, and that player is sold, and so on, and so on.

Different strategies ofcourse.  Some people like to spend all their money on the big names and then pick up dollar players to fill their bench (this is usually called 'Stars and Scrubs' method).  There are others who are more frugal with their budgets and look for value while building a solid bench (often time passing on the studs).

But everybody has a shot at AP, but how much are your willing to spend?  Rodgers?  Are they worth huge chunks of your budget?  You get a chance to build a team with the guys you REALLY want.

Cheers. I totally forgot that in one of the Yahoo leagues I played in, that's exactly how free agency was set up...or the waiver process.

Coolness

Yea, there are some leagues that use the budget method for free agency.  Like you have $100 to spend the entire year on FAs, the auctions are usually silent and you're bidding in the dark.

One of the downsides to an auction is that it takes a lot longer than a standard snake draft.  A 14-team league could take a while.

If you are interested in that type of Free Agency the one league I have still has spots open (see EPSN 2 QB league thread for details) or send a PM for invite!

Sorry to hijack your thread but I needed to take advantage of the opportunity to fill my league.
