TE Visanthe Shiancoe signs one year deal

106 posts in this topic

With a great QB in a pass happy system he was on an elite level. That was with Favre. Can he emulate that in Jim Caldwells system? I know this was 3 and 4 years ago but he clearly couldn't have lost all his talent

yep, saw that on our official page; he's dressing for practice

one year vet deal, not bad at all lol

Yeah I think it comes out to something like a $620K cap hit under the vet minimum benefit.  We needed something.

And if he's practicing today, doesn't that mean that a deal was probably already in the works before Pitta was injured? Will he have a uniform with his name on the back of it today? ;)

Glad we are adding a quality veteran to the TE group. Hopefully he can rub off on Dickson and Furst while he is here.

Yep. I figured he'd be the guy. I would've liked to have Dallas Clark, but I can absolutely see why they did this move.

Agreed.  Shiancoe is the more well-rounded player.  Assuming they wanted someone that can block in the event the passing game falters and we need to rely more on the run.

Same, but Shianco is not a bad option

Did he switch to the Dish Network?

No and he had to sign for the vet minimum because he was in trouble since he has no hair to sell to a wig shop.

I hope he can find some magic here in the twilight of his career.

I like the signing...I would not be surprised if he gets in that 400 yard range..He will likely like any player use the injury as extra incentive to be ready for the season.

I remember when we drafted Pitta and Dickson and feeling that the first couple of years Pitta would be the better of the two and further into their careers Dickson would likely shine more as he does have an impressive skillset (annd much more well rounded now)..Now I dont think this will be true but I do have really high expectations/hopes for Dickson this year and I think he will have no issues stepping up, just not sure if they will be in the same key moments as Pitta would have.

I guess it had to happen, though I would've preferred Clark.  If Dickson can catch 50-60 passes and some other TE can catch 20-30 while being a good possession receiver, perfect.  Then we just need to let WR play out.

Good move. I wonder who'll be #1, him or Dickson. Hope Bajema makes the team.

I like Shiancoe, but it would be absolutely shocking to me if Dickson wasn't our number one this year.

On NFLN they said he changed it to "Vis-ahnth."

Oops. I never heard that, I know him best a "Vi-sahn-tay" instead.

Me too. I think I'm going to keep calling him that; it's more fun and anyone who is in the know will know who I'm referring to and if they aren't hard core football fans then the pronunciation won't matter anyway.

Yeah we just need a TE who can move the chains a bit. one who can run routes and catch while Dickson focuses catching the ball downfield. I think Dickson will make things easier for TE2, whoever that may be. The WR opposite Torrey really has even more pressure on him now. Torrey himself also has more pressure to become more of a chain moving guy. Visanthe once caught 11 TD passes in a single season. Does anyone know what his role was like and how he scored?

basicaly brett Favre short bullets in the red zone to visanthe.

Yeah I heard he was a red zone threat, was hoping for a bit more, but he can probably do a bit of what Pitta did in the endzone finding space in zones and separating from linebackers.
