Updated: Jets sign K Billy Cundiff; Now Browns Do

At least they now have more depth at K than division rival MIA. Lindell and Gostkowski are pretty iffy, too.

Cundiff's deal is a confidence issue..it seems like he doesn't have belief in himself and he doesn't know how to kick with the same delivery every time..like a pitcher who changes his delivery and release point..if you change it you can struggle and I remember Matt Stover saying Cundiff didnt always have the same wind up or whatever..

A lot is being said about Cundiff's missed fg in the AFCCG, and rightfully so, but I can't keep from thinking how it might never have been an issue if Lee Evans hadn't dropped the ball.  Of course, one of the things no one will ever know, but I, for one, do not place the blame for that game on Cundiff.  Oh the other hand, I'm glad we have Tucker now.

Cundiff went 2 for 5 on field goals in camp today.  Good ol' Billy.

Thank goodness, I'm going to the Jets game and I will lose it if he kicks the game winning field goal against us.

Hopefully Billy still has his resume memorized

Hopefully his resume has PRO BOWL in all caps and bold.  Maybe a team will bypass everything else and just see Pro Bowl.  That's the only way he's getting a job again.

Billy Cundiff

8 years of experience in the NFL including 2 playoff games

Played for the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Cleavland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, and Washington Redskins

Set record for most touch backs in a season.

Selected to the 2010 PRO BOWL!

Our version:

Billy "left" Cundiff

Lost the AFCCG for us!

He has lost his confidence since the missed kick in AFCCG; it's hard for him to regain his confidence.  I think he will be the same old missed FG kick Billy unless he proves everyone wrong.

We won the SB so everyone should be happy and forget his missed kick..

PS: If we lost to the 49ers in the SB, I will hate Billy the rest of my life but we won the SB so we're good.....

But if he hadn't missed versus NE, BAL would have had a chance to play NYG in the Super Bowl.

We'll never know...... If Evans would've hung on to it we would've never talked about poor Billy....but for some reason I dislike Cundiff more because of that game.

And then we dominate the Giants the next year with a way weaker defense and way better offense. It makes you wonder, but who knows what would've happened. If we won it 2 years ago maybe we don't win it last year?

Anyway, I still don't like Cundiff. At least Evans would talk about that game and how it impacted his life. Billy never did IIRC.

LOL at Cundiff supporters. All I hear is "second chance" and "redemption"... well, I don't know where you've been the last 8 years, but he's had plenty of "second chances" and "redemption" shots. He's played for how many teams now? 6, I believe?? In fact, his only good year was when he broke the touchback record for us a few years back. The other years, he was a journeyman who bounced back and forth between various teams. I am more inclined to say that he's a journeyman type kicker, rather than a stud who just lost his confidence. This is based on 7 years of journeyman type performance vs. only 1 good season as a solid kicker. To an outsider, that one good year was a flash in the pan type deal that happens from time to time with some players.

It's the "if" you're talking about; I hated him since he missed that kick but winning this year SB at least I would put my hate on him and move on.  However, he will never be welcome back to this team if that's the case.

Back to hypothetical situation, if he ever had made the kick, we would be in the SB but we just couldn't tell we would beat the Giants. The game in AFCCG against the Pats, we were dominating them defensively and offensively but still lost.  It would had happened in the same way against the Giants.  Noone will remember the loser in the SB unless you are the 49ers, obsessively whining about the holding call and we are the better team thing...lol

It's easy to tell from the hindsight but in reality we were good as a team but 1 little individual mistake would cost a game.
