Ragin'Raven

Leadership

6 posts in this topic

Down at Shands, my husband and some of the other doctors used this quote as inspiration for day to day business at the hospital. I think it applies to the Ravens, especially this year.

"A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He doesn't set out to be a leader but becomes one by the quality of his actions and the integrity of his intent. In the end, leaders are much like eagles. They do not flock; you find them one at a time."

With the obvious style of Ray Lewis gone, I think this is one of the most important times for leadership on the Ravens team. I think it will be fun to see who steps up into a more prominent role within that realm. I just thought I'd share that quote. :)

Well, look and ye shall find...or ye shall be disappointed.

I heard, that Ray Lewis would be going around the cafeteria snatching hamburgers away from guys...scolding them that they gotta eat in a way that preserves their career...'This burga' won't help you do that!'

Now if that's true, we could be hardpressed to find another guy that's that meticulous. I mean, Matt Elam looks like he could be that complete...but who knows

Ray Lewis is one of a handful of people in the world who can go around stealing hamburgers straight out of the hands of hungry professional football players and fear exactly zero reprisal for it.

Wasn't it true that R.Lewis was actually mentoring R.Rice to be the voice and leader or the team?  I've also hear that T.Suggs was to be the "next man up" as our defensive leader.  Then there's Joe.  I think Joe will pipe up as the voice of our offense.  We've all heard and seen on NFL network how vocal he can be on the sidelines when voicing his opinion about bad calls, missed assignments, ect.  Ray Rice to me seems to represent the heart of the team, but not so much as the vocal leader.  Suggs might have everyone's attention on and field and in the locker room but I'd like to hear him rally the team together more without saying something that could cast doubts from people in terms of his maturity.  All in all anyone of our premier players could lead on other teams but our ravens have so much talent it becomes difficult to grade each pro-bowlers intangible leadership skills when we had the greatest leader manning the helm for so long.

I going to go out on a limb and say Matt Elam will be the leader of the secondary by the end of the season.

I remember reading that also. That Ray thinks Rice will be one of the best leaders of his generation. Even though no one will ever replace Ray in terms of being a leader, and losing Reed hurts. I think with veterans like Rice,Yanda,Flacco, ngata,Suggs combined with veterans who weren't playing on the title team like Doom,McClain,Webb,Daryl Smith I think we will be fine with leadership. I think the combo of those two groups will be able to keep the team in line. Doom was the leader in Denver so he will come in still busting his butt because he never had a ring before. Look at how highly Von Miller thinks of him.
