Update: Jacoby Jones off the PUP list

54 posts in this topic

According to Bleacher Report, Jacoby Jones failed his conditioning test and was placed on the Non football Injury list. If this is true, it is really shocking and puts our WR situation under a lot of scrutiny and stress. This was according to Gregg Rosenthal of ATL.

Apparently, DWTS isn't all that taxing on your aerobic conditioning...

Why would Jacoby be at the facility today? Vets don't report until Wednesday

Nvm conditioning test is beforehand. Jacoby had a little too much of mamas cooking. He'll get it back though

I love Jacoby! However, I want him to be serious about his craft and take his physical conditioning seriously. This tells me either he is beginning to take his status as a Raven for granted or is immature about it at best. I am sure he is going to hear it from the HC and maybe will light a fire under him to perform to his talent level. I hope it is the latter though...

While it's inexcusable to fail a conditioning test, I wouldn't worry about it too much. What doesn't look good for him is that this might be the biggest season of his career,  because he could really find a home here in Baltimore to finish this career off instead of bouncing around the NFL. You want him locked it and ready to come out and take that #2 WR position, prove that what the Texans thought of him isn't accurate. Failing this test doesn't stop him for doing so,  but it doesn't help either.

Do we know it's because he's actually failed something or that Harbaugh wants to give him rest because he did DWTS? Remember, he was the 3rd WR AND does KR/PR. That's a lot.

You think maybe they made it up or that reports are wrong? Just clarifying here.

Obviously this isn't ideal, but it's not that big of an issue.  The test is incredibly difficult based on what I'm hearing.  Should he have passed?  Yes.  I don't think this at all will change our opinion on our receiving core.

It's possible they were just looking for a reason to give him extra rest. Or maybe he legitimately failed it because he hurt himself doing it. I'm not sure if all people who fail the test are put on the Non-football Injury list, but that's where he is.

i wouldnt worry, i dont expect him to be the #2 WR although he may see more time on offense his hands just aren't as reliable as they need to be, he'll still be good on special teams returning kicks...it'd be nice if he didnt fail the test but its not something to worry about

Rest from what? He hasn't done any kick returning or punt returning since February.

Didn't Ngata fail last year? And upshaw?

And I don't think it's fair yet to accuse him of being out of shape or not taking something seriously. What if he pulled something while running?

Either way he's got 2 more days to pass it before most vets even report. Technically by being there today I think he reported 2 days early right??

Yes, they both did but they were both out of shape as well to an extent. Ngata claimed that it was by design, however.

Yeah, they aren't skill position players. It's still inexcusable to fail a conditioning test, but in my opinion, it's even more inexcusable to fail a conditioning test as a wide receiver. It's common place (but still undesirable) for dlinemen like Upshaw and Ngata to fail their first time at a conditioning test. I've never heard of a WR failing one.

3 Cowboys - 3 skilled players

Well then! Maybe it's not as rare as I thought.

Haaaaa!!!! I was hoping you might find some solace in that.

I found a similar story for Justin McCareins in 2006 and then there was some other guy I hadn't heard of back in 2011 for the Bucs

I';m not really that concerned. I'm sure he will take it again tomorrow and be fine. I also dont really expect Jacoby to be our #2 WR. I think he will have more of a role than last year, but I would be surprised if he exceeds 50-60% of the offensive snaps.

Remember that WRs have a more difficult test than linemen also.

Jacoby did have knee surgery right after the season was over. Perhaps he just needs a little rest and/or rehab, he doesn't strike me as a lazy person. Just hope his knee is okay!

Jacoby did have a minor knee procedure. Could be concerning, as a WR shouldn't fail a conditioning test ever, but I'm not concerned. If he's placed on Active/PUP list, it gives Ozzie a chance to see all the young WRs take more reps, and really find out what they can do.

I'd rather see Jacoby stay in his role of last year, as opposed to becoming our #2 WR. He's a game changer on Kick Returns, but if he had an expanded role in the offense, that would take away from his speciality.

This is HUGE. This means one of the younger guys will get more reps with the first team in training camp as the #2 WR. Man, this kind of stuff really gives an opportunity for Doss. I'd love to see Smith and Doss as our 2-WR set. And if we go 3 wide to have Doss in the slot a la Anquan Boldin.

I think Caldwell will continue to spread the offense much more than Cam, but putting a 4th WR means Ray Rice or Dennis Pitta need to sit out. So, ideally it's a 3 WR set. I think Deonte Thompson will be the #4.

It's honestly not that big of a deal. If he retakes it today or tomorrow and passes it it's a non factor. If he retakes it and still doesn't pass then that's a big deal. A lot of guys will or can fail the test on the first try. As long as it's passed before training camp opens up on Wednesday it's a non factor.

One thing that no one mentioned, that very few people think about is diet: he should have been eating a certain way 2-3 days before the shuttle, and he should have ate a certain way the morning of.

A regimented approach to nutrition can make a big difference

Jacoby needs to step it up haha. Hopefully he keeps his speed! Lord knows with him a and Torey would probably be the fastest wide receiver corps in the NFL.
