He absolutely has talent. The question is his character. Knowing John, I doubt we bring him here but I personally wouldn't be against any move at this point that improves the team. Especially if the cost is minimal.

Yeah, Da'Rick has got potential, and I think that if he straightened himself out, he'd be a great addition. Don't know if I'm willing to give up a roster spot for someone who might just get suspended for failing drug tests. PS, maybe?

I just feel like if the Bengals can keep Burfict in check we should be able to keep Rogers in check. Maybe being cut was a wake up call for him lol at least I hope it was. I just feel like with the uncertainty we have at WR any competition is welcome. Maybe he can play ST something anything. He has to much talent to be wasted by being immature

Marvin Lewis threatened to strangle Burfict after their preseason game against the Falcons. That dude is a time bomb.

The bills cut Da'Rick Rogers. Think we give him a shot ?

He might be worth a look - dude's insanely talented - but the fact that he was passed on by every team 7 times, then cut before the regular season even started, is a serious cause for concern.  You might get lucky and get a Burflict situation (which still might end up being a problem for the Bengals) or you might end up with a guy who flat doesn't care about being a professional and does something stupid while part of your team.  Still, if a team could pull it off, I think it would be a team like ours that has a championship pedigree - I mean, Harbs could just flash his ring, whereas Marvin hasn't even won a playoff game in 10 years as a HC.

Yeah, but immature players struggle to come here and get that next shot. He would probably just retire.

If he is as talented as some here seem to think he would have been drafted despite character concerns. The examples are endless beginning with tyrann Matthieu. He hasn't done anything since arriving in buffalo pertaining to off field issues. He is clearly just not that good or a major locker room problem to be cut so early. I'm sure he will never be heard from again.

That was because he got into a scuffle with Steven Jackson but this is football and it happens. Even a couple of our guys got into scuffles this offseason and probably every other one. No one can sit hear and (honestly) say Burfict wasn't a steal for the Bengals.

Mathieu has looked good so far, though.

He really has. That feeds more into his argument, too, that a player with real talent will be given a chance in the draft despite character issues.

Burfict ?

Burfict ?

That seems to be the go to argument here.  He had a great season after not being drafted, but he didn't go through camp and then get cut from Buffalo.

I used Burfict as an example because you said players will get drafted if they have "real" talent despite character issues. Which is not necessarily true. Mathieu was a Heisman candidate, Rogers is just a good player (not even the best WR at Tenn). On top of that Mathieu is a good person off the field besides his past pot smoking. Rogers isn't a bad kid but his off field issues reminds me of R. McClain which is a terrible person to be labeled after. I just hope he gets his act together and becomes a successful WR where ever he ends up. I just want him to have a shot in purple because the kid can ball.

Edit: But then again I'm not a GM or scout of any sort so its easy for me to overlook his red flags.

R. McClain was drafted in Round 1.  If Rogers is anything like him talent-wise, he surely would have been drafted.  If he is anything like him character-wise, why would we waste our time again?  I actually don't really have an issue with Rogers, so if we can make our team better by trying him out, I'm all for it.  I just think those are pretty bad examples to try and sell him with.

All i'm trying to say is I want to see him do good and hopefully its with us. In my last post wasn't trying to glorify him in any way just giving my opinion on him.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is while yes, he is a steal for as long as he doesn't screw up, the moment he screws up it's full tilt. Hence, a time bomb. Also regarding the excuse for why Lewis went off on him...Lewis publicly called Burfict out saying he would've "strangled" him if he had been Jackson in that situation. That is not standard coachspeak. For example, just this training camp KO got into numerous scuffles with guys like Haloti who are must-have players on our team. Much higher downside from a team perspective with KO fighting Haloti than Burfict fighting Jackson, yet Harbaugh applauded him.

Net, there is good aggressive and bad aggressive. Burfict's bad aggressive hasn't reared it's head too much just yet, but from the above example I think it's pretty clear that Marvin Lewis is anxious about it.

Yes, my point was if Rodgers was good enough he wouldn't be unemployed right now. Teams will overlook character concerns if the talent is there. This is not a great player here.

So i havent really kept up with this thread and was wandering if someone could give me some insight.  Why is brandon lloyd still a FA?  Im not saying we should bring him in, although im ok with that to see if he can make a difference.  But so many teams could use a wr like him.  Or apparently not considering no one has brought him in

I think it's 2 things: 1) money and 2) I've heard about some locker room issues.  Neither one by themselves is enough, but both together is the problem.  I think what it's basically come down to is Lloyd is trying to get paid, and people have concluded his 2010 season was a total fluke - he's been in the league 11 years and that's the only time he went over 1000 yards, despite the fact that he's been a starter for 6 of those seasons.  So I think the general sense is that he's at best a number 2 wideout, if not a number 3, but he's demanding a high price.  When you add in the fact that he's not the greatest teammate out there, I think it's more a matter of if someone gets hurt, a team will bite the bullet and take a shot on Lloyd.  Until then, he'll sit.

Ok that stuff makes sense, i just hadnt heard anything really.  I think hes worth bringing in, obviously for the right price.  but after all the cuts today it will make things interesting
