Training Camp 2013 (Updates, News, Reports)

968 posts in this topic

I didn't see this posted already so I figured I would mention it. So does that mean they're out until after the 6th game of the season? Forgive my ignorance, but I didn't know if they have a PUP for training camp and one for the regular season.

The PUP right now means that a player can be pulled off at any time.  However, a player cannot go back on the PUP list.  Placing a guy on the PUP now just allows them to get another body in camp if they choose, since players on the PUP don't count against the roster.

Your ignorance is NOT forgiven.

There are only about 2,329 rules and regulations for the National Football League. Is it really that hard to keep up with all 2,329?!?? Oh and lest we forget the nuances of the salary cap

I'm concerned about McLain . His issue seems more serious then I thought . Yanda had rotator cuff surgery . I'm guessing he will be fine for the first game against Denver .

I figured that we'd do this. I'm not trying to toot my horn here. I think Jameel is going to be on the PUP for the regular season as well. I really see us easing him back into the game and letting Smith & Brown get a lot of reps. If they do well, then he's gone. If they struggle, I see him back. Now, I'm not trying to say Jameel McClain is done in Baltimore. He might not even be gone this year. I don't think he'll be with the team next year.

I'm not at all surprised. This does happen from time to time. Guys have failed it before. I wouldn't put too much weight in it, though I did have a feeling that JJ could have a problem from that DWTS mess.

How about Cody? Any news on him? I think he's another one who could've ended up on the PUP.

Actually, JJ failed his conditioning test. It's something that happens to vets on occasion when they fail to take it seriously enough. I expect him to pass on his next try.

Anyone know what the conditioning test is?

I hope it's not that crazy workout that John Harbaugh himself does in running the length of the football field several times. That workout was insane

Aaron Wilson reported that he failed a series of timed, interval runs.  Not a huge deal, although a WR should never fail a test like that.

Among other things, it contains a set of sprints with a short break in between. Different positions have different standards to meet. Players who don't go full-tilt sometimes fail on their first try. I think even Suggs failed it one year.

No news on Cody yet, but I did see that they have until Thursday to designate guys to the PUP, so we'll know by then.

It's an intense shuttle workout. Up and back 15 or 25 yards 6 times in 45 seconds. Do that 6 times. Have to make time each time. Really brutal.

You mean

down and back 6 times in 45 secs OR

down and back 6 times * 6. <------------ Sounds like its this one. for a total of 150 yds

Where did you get this intel?

That's extremely brutal. However, 45 seconds is pretty reasonable. That means you get 9 seconds to go every 25 yds. Roughly double how long it takes you to run the 40, yet they are running just a little more than half that distance

Wonder what the parameters are for linemen and linebackers?

The main questions would be: did he just barely miss it, and then did he just barely make it last year?

They did an article on it last year. There was a video of Ryan Mink running the test.

I'd imagine the time changes depending on the position. Maybe closer to a minute for linemen

also remember our conditioning test is no joke, Hargbaugh works these guys hard in camp so the conditioning test is tough

jacoby will pass it though, i cant see him being real out of shape but i could be wrong

Ouch...I mean *cough cough* cause I can't breathe just thinking about it

Harbaugh could be real iron fisted with it and put the guys through his crazy ironman workout of the full length of the field

Real good sign that all the guys are at least on the field running drills.

Baltimore Ravens @Ravens 59m

Lardarius Webb, Haloti Ngata, Terrence Cody, Albert McClellan and Ed Dickson are all participating in today's practice.

John harbaugh says jameel mcclain situation is 'hard to predict has been slower than he hoped'
[/font]

I never liked him as a player because I felt he was overrated but I hope he's okay for the sake of his health. A man as young as he is shouldn't have to suffer. He's a good guy. I hope he ends up on the PUP so we can keep another LB lol.

Looks like you are 50% right now. You hit on McClain and missed on Cody. Who else did you have on Pup list throughout the offseason?

McClain was the one where I was certain. Lol. I think it was just Cody and him. I think if I did mention another it was Marlon Brown and the obvious pick of Kapron Lewis-Moore

McClellan may be another one. I think he had shoulder surgery if I remember correctly. Antoine McClain, for foot surgery, although no one would even know he wasn't at practice.

Yea I was holding out hope for McClain because I thought with a better Dline the guy could have had a strong season. But the news doesn't sound good. He was so optimistic this offseason about being ready for camp, and even Harbs sounded good about it. But to hear Harbs say he's not recovering as fast as they though isn't good imo. Harbs usually has a positive spin on everything, it'll be interesting to hear his tone when talking about McClain to the media.

From a on field standpoint, this is big for guys like Carr, Hall, Bryant and McClellan. One of those guys will get a lot more opportunities then they would before with McClain out. This might actually open a roster spot up for one of those guys, so it's a huge opportunity imo. I wanna see Nigel Carr step up and own it. It's also huge for Josh Bynes because he gets to really battle for a starting spot with only Brown and Smith ahead of him.

Well the Ravens twitter page said McClellan was practicing today, but of course those guys weren't in pads, but he was still on the field which is good.

Adrian Hamilton left mini camp with a back injury I think, I wonder if he's practicing

Well that's a good sign.  Didn't even check the Ravens' Twitter.

I heard Hamilton is fine and it was really minor.

Obviously, KLM was expected.  Yanda isn't much of a concern to me at least.  McClain is the only guy I'm worried about, especially since he keeps saying he's healthy while doctors are saying otherwise.

Yea that's tough. It's like the Kindle situation. If doctors would have left it up to him that guy would have been back playing football. But while players just want to do what they love, doctors gotta make sure they are healthy for much more then just a football game. It's tough to because you really can't control a spinal injury the way you can rehab a knee or something.

So it might be as much about rest for McClain then anything else and with him basically fighting to be on this team, rest might help his healthy, but it won't help his status on this team.
