Update: Von Miller Suspended 6 Games for violating drug policy!

Denver isn't worried.. Supposedly Peyton Manning can make up for their nonexistent pass rush

I was browsing their forums and saw a similar sentiment. Most of the Bronco's fans were predicting they would go 6-0 or 5-1 AT WORST with Miller out. With the one loss most likely coming from Dallas. They are delusional, while Manning is great and has a great receiving core, their defense is shredded with dumervil (gone), miller (suspended),  bailey (hurt),wolfe (hurt), and Bradley (surgery).

The only downside for me is that right when I draft this defense in fantasy, all these injuries happen just days/hours later.  I think this defense with Von for most of the season would still be really good in fantasy, but with these injuries, wow.

Yea.....No.   They'll muster up a pass rush but it won't be as lethal as Von Miller and Dumervil.  Von Miller is probably the best pass rusher in the game right now.  There isn't anyone waiting in the wings that can replace that.  Philips and Ayers will probably be the guys.

Kind of like there isn't anybody on the Ravens roster that can still help them get back to the playoffs because "they lost Ed Reed and Ray Lewis...2 first round ballot hall of famers..." blah blah blah??

They lost a great guy that can help them out, but if the backup comes in to get 6 sacks on the season and they all come in the games against superior or potentially superior opponents, it probably won't matter if they get 0 sacks against Oakland or Jax or Philly. You know what I'm saying. They're "toughest" games would be B'more, GMen, Dallas.

The real issue is can he be in football shape when he gets back

That's different.  Ray and Ed were on the downswing of their careers.  Where we could get replacement level talent (on-field) from guys like Daryl Smith & Huff.

Losing Von Miller would be like trying to replace 2006 Ed Reed & Ray Lewis, which would then be impossible to get replacement level talent.

Nah.  Don't really care with who they line up.  I'll take the W any way possible.

Really. In the end, no one remembers who played on the other side of the W.The only players that are remembered are the guys on the winning team. More importantly, in the playoffs, and the SB the number of W's count, not who was played.

Any team with Manning throwing the ball to the likes of Thomas, Decker and Welker will still be a huge threat.

Their offense is just terrifying. They can be below average on defense and still beat most teams in the league.

Exactly.

Also, why should we play them at 100% to prove who's best, when we are missing Pitta and have a banged up Webb & Dickson. It all evens out in the end.

I read that Welker and Wolfe should both be back in time for the season opener.

Ankle sprain shouldn't keep you out too long. Took me about 3 weeks to get back playing semi-pro soccer after mine.

I don't think he'll be playing every down, but I'd expect him to still be able to make an impact.

You are right. But like I said, whoever they plug in needs to play well and find a way to make plays against the teams that are deemed or considered "superior". The replacement doesn't have to be so special in the games that Denver is expected to win. We still came out in front without Ed Reed in 2008 when everyone made a big deal about him starting the season as a PUP. We did alright w/o Suggs last season irrespective of how we got to 9-2 or whatever it was when we got 1 sack out of P Freddie before he caught fire when Suggs came back

Matters what kind it is.. Sometimes they can bother for awhile after even if he's back on the field

Had heard Wolfe would probably be out though..

They have this player they just drafted called Quanterus Smith who's a pretty talented football player..

I havent watched him at all this preseason. Has he looked good? I know he is recovering from an ACL injury as well.

I only saw one preseason game so I have limited knowledge here but he looked pretty good against the Niners. He looked good there but I've heard his knee is a bit sore sui there's some concern there. Regardless I have no idea how much is precautionary and how much is legit

Yeah I guess unlike Brady Peyton CAN do everything! Unless Peyton's wife says otherwise.

Didn't they lose their starting C as well?

Twice.

Now the guard they've moved over isn't cutting it, so they've talked another (reportedly woefully out of shape) aging retiree into coming back. And two of their starting lineman aren't evenfully  back from last year's injuries.

But not to worry. Apparently Peyton will have no trouble putting up 30+ points a game without an offensive line.
