Update: Von Miller Suspended 6 Games for violating drug policy!

209 posts in this topic

Jeffri Chadiha strikes again! In an article where he mentions how Miller's suspension won't doom the Broncos, he wrote this tired nonsense about our team:

Of course, the Ravens have never dealt with the loss of respected leaders and "dependable playmakers" over the past five seasons and perservered. Oh, wait...

Pay these fools no mind. They don't realize that Paul Kruger was a part time starter nor do they realize Danelle Ellerbe was a part time starter who only became a full-time starter due to his running mates injury. Amazes me how people just aren't aware of the real goings ons and put so much stock into those 2 guys as if we wouldn't have a plan for their departure...

Anyone know whether Miller was busted for using PEDs or recreatioonal drugs?

Recreational.  Supposedly he tested positive for both marijuana and amphetimines.

This is the second time he's tested positive for those two substances, the last time was during his rookie year.

Couldn't the "amphetamines" be Adderall, which is on the PED list?  I mean, Adderall is an amphetamine, but I'm not sure if it was ruled out already or something.  Or do we know exactly which amphetamine he tested positive for?  I'm having trouble finding reliable sources.

I don't know if it's a "PED".  It's a "banned substance" and on that list, though.

Basically since he was using marijuana as well we are assuming he was using another party drug and not a PED like Addy.

I've heard that he had taken Molly.

Oh of course, just a complete misunderstanding. Just ask the Seattle Seahawks ;)

Im going to go out on a limb and say Richard Sherman is the Ryan Braun of NFL players. His "compromised" drug test excuse was a total cop out.

They were saying that it was not for PED's, so my best guess is recreational, but so far they are not saying exactly what it was. They only thing I can say is if he did a banned substance, then I hope the suspension sticks. I hate when these guys get off on a technicality when they are guilty as hell.

Nothing has been confirmed yet.

Don't be surprised given the League's love affair with Manning, that they decide to give Von Miller another slap on the wrist and cancel the suspension as well...

4 game suspension is relatively short. Im guessing he was caught smoking weed. If he was caught using PED, i could see him facing alot harder penalty.

Gosh man you might be right after all.

This would have to set a precedent though. Never heard of a guy appealing and then getting a harsher penalty than the original pre-appeal. Is that how they operate now?

Four games or six...regardless he is going to miss week one! :)

Interesting. I remember writing an article about this last Thursday and how the NFL should extend Miller's suspension after his arrest. I had Broncos fans ticked off at me for writing it and yet a few days later... the NFL extends his suspension.

You have to wonder though, how much did his arrest play into getting a larger suspension.

It's a real shame a guy with his talent and who looked like a pretty straight guy would suddenly have these issues. He seemed like he had his head on straight when he was coming out of college. For the most part, anyway.

Wonder if that factored into Dumervil's decision to come to Baltimore. I mean, pretty sure he was salty about the whole situation on the contract, but one would think his thought process included T Suggs @ 31 vs Von Miller @ 24

Could it have been that he felt that Von had some issues that could have been a major con?

I don't think that's the case to be honest. Not at all. I think he wanted to be reunited with Wink and wanted to return to a defense that uses 3-4 schemes.

I don't think Doom thought that far ahead frnakly. Also, I am kind of surprised with the reaction Miller had when faced with this suspension initially. He put on this facade of 'it was all a big mistake and I am holier than thou' stuff and finally he gets suspended for potentially 6 games and he may not even appeal?

In any case, I am glad Joe doesn't have to contend with this guy in the first game!

I don't think this is as much an extension of a former suspension, but that those reporting on it initially were misinformed.  Miller's "appeal" wasn't as much to get the suspension lifted as it was to get it reduced.  Apparently there were aggravating circumstances that no one knows anything about that caused the suspension to be set at 6 instead of 4, and those were what Miller had issues with.  This is all according to a conversation I heard Schefter and Mortensen have today on Sportscenter.

I like our chances week 1. Now we know Miller won't play. There is a chance Champ Baily and/or their good DT Wolfe don't play either.

Per BroncosForums and ESPN, Miller is going to be suspended for 6 games and will not be appealing.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp13/story/_/id/9581214/von-miller-denver-broncos-likely-get-6-game-ban\

This is the part that likely triggered the suspension:

In the test that triggered the suspension, multiple sources say Miller was flagged for a "diluted sample." It happened after Miller was asked to provide a test before an offseason workout/practice and the sample was spilled, by Miller, before it was given to the collector. Miller was then asked at that time to provide another sample and he could not.

He then participated in the workout, drinking fluids throughout the activity. Miller then provided a sample that was used in the test following the workout.

This may become a high scoring game. However, if we get our defense into it's highly-known-for status, things may be different.
