Question for you guys:

If Leach returns, would you be okay with me bumping the number of OL down to 8? Any issues can be handled during the final vote towards the end of camp. I found OL to be the position that was the hardest to pick a number, so if I had to cut one, I feel like OL is the best option.

Continue to vote 9, but I'd like a few opinions I'm the event this happens.

I think 8 would work in that event, yes.

I read it more as him saying Reid is running with the first team to see if he's worthy of making the team. I was trying to say that he's running with the first team because they feel he's the next best option if someone were to go down. Maybe I interpreted that wrong. No clue lol.

Yeah I don't think it's the only reason either. I've always wondered why, and that seems to be the only real reason I've seen so far. It could be for any number of reasons, though.

I don't know for sure why he was running with the firsts. I just wanted to point out another possibility as a reason why.

I feel the o line evaluations of the ravens is thd biggest mystery compared to any position. I could see them going a number of different ways here.

Personally I was shocked to see harewood starting week one but was impressed with his play when he was In the game and I really felt he would have grown into a nice starter. I really think the coaches want to get younger and more athletic on the line to be able to run more of a fast paced Indy-style offense. But at some point you just have to go with hand best five you have and Taylor your offense to their capabilities or get your qb killed.

I would not be shocked to see the 2014 line
Wagner/harewood/gradkowski/yanda/ossemele
Or
Ossemele/harewood/gradkowski/yanda/Cornell

As for this year I am really at a loss. Personally I really don't like mckinnie in the least. I still believe its possible he is beaten out by one of the young guys. I'm not sure Cornell is not a possibility as well.

I'm pretty much of the same opinion, do forgive the posting inside a post that follows lol

can't argue guys:

1. McKinnie
2. KO
3. Gino
4. Yanda
5. Oher

second trier:
6. Reid - see him in the battle for 9th place just because of how high of a pick he was; too many injuries though
7. Wagner - yep, he's in, no way we're giving away a recent draft pick
8. Shipley - yep, he's in, no way we're giving away a 7th just for the fun of it

9. Ryan Jensen - see no. 7; i read somewhere we're trying him at guard, not as a 3rd C

guys who will be in only if injuries to the above will unfortunatelly occur:
1. Roger Gaines
2. Ramon Harewood
3. Jack Cornell
4. Jordan Devey

5. David Mims

Well crap... I forgot Ryan Jensen was a draft pick, lol. It's hard to justify considering we haven't done it in a long time, but we just might carry nine offensive linemen. The past two years we've carried a maximum of eight guys, if memory serves me well.

i bet a couple of the young ones will land on the "will put you on record to be injured for the year, as we're happy to see you staying here" list and 1-2 will get to be on the practice squad

Why's everybody down on Harewood? He seemed to do more with his opportunities last year than Reid before both went down with injury.

rmw did you already do the linebackers edition? Can't wait to see everyone's thoughts on who goes

Yeah the OL is really tough to nail. It could go any place. I'm also not a big McKinnie fan especially after his comments on they morning radio show.

As for the 2014 OL I'm not sure about that. I realize this is very premature but Harewood is on a 1 year deal so he'd have to be re-signed. You don't see the team bringing back Oher? I also think Cornell might be one of those surprise players.

Well we wouldn't be giving away a 7th if he doesn't make the team. The condition is that he has to make the team. If we cut him we lose nothing. I can see Jensen on the squad and we don't like to cut draft picks but I have the feeling that we'll stash him on the injury report. That's my feeling. I think he's still too raw and needs some coaching. We'll see though. I can see him make the team because of his versatility.

Personally, i want both of them out. They had 3 years. Time to move on and let other prospects get their opportunity.

I've been waiting for this one. Are you including OLB with the LB or are you grouping them with the DL? Like Suggs for instance

I'm going to base it on the 3-4, since that's the primary defense we run.  So Suggs, Dumervil, Upshaw, etc. go with LB.  Unfortunately due to my poor timing, I am going to have to include OLB and ILB together.  I wanted to split them up, but I started this too late.  And just another note... I was originally going to have the number of LB's be 8, but I 100% doubt we go with any less than 9.

So I finally put in my vote. I decided since I have no clue what the team will do with this position and I think alot will be decided on their preseason performance. I went with the starting 5 and my 4 faves after that.
Mckinnie
Ossemele
Gradkowski
Yanda
Oher

Harewood
Cornell
Shipley
Wagner

Looks like i'm the only one who voted for Big David Mims to make the team.

I like this vote him. I put Mims in over Cornell, but I was very impressed with him when I went out to camp last year and watching in the preseason. The guy is tough and nasty, I like that in any olineman but especially in a RT. Even though Jansen was a draft pick, right now I see it hard for him to make it. He's projected as a interior guy and with the addition of Shipley you basically have the backup Center position covered depending on who wins the battle. I think Jensen is more of a long term plan guy. So IR or PS might be in his future.

I see us hanging onto Mims somehow. Don't know if he's eligible for ps or not but I can't see why we'd acquire him in the offseason just to let him go. They must have seen some potential in him and behind McKinnie I don't think we have a big bodied LT our team seems to covet.

We've let go of other guys in the past. Not that I disagree with the notion of us finding a creative way to retain him, but I think the idea that we wouldn't acquire him in the offseason to cut him now is wrong.

That's no reason to keep him.  We gave him a future deal worth the minimum.  It's really no different than signing a UDFA.

No I agree. We just don't have any LT prospect behind McKinnie. Cornell maybe. Oher can go over but no.

We seem to like to have a massive, athletic guy at that spot and no one else really fits that bill. I'm more hopeful than actually optimistic bc he's a mammoth of a man with surprisingly nimble feet for that size. Maybe the next Gaither without the attitude/health issue.
