NCAA Not renewing contract with EA Sports

15 posts in this topic

This is major news for everyone who plays this game. Just like the title says, it seems there will be no more NCAA Football games as it stands. NCAA Football 14 looks to be the last College Football video game. This also means that Madden 25 will be the last Madden to have the ability to import Draft Classes.

"The NCAA has made the decision not to enter a new contract for the license of its name and logo for the EA Sports NCAA Football video game. The current contract expires in June 2014, but our timing is based on the need to provide EA notice for future planning. As a result, the NCAA Football 2014 video game will be the last to include the NCAA’s name and logo. We are confident in our legal position regarding the use of our trademarks in video games. But given the current business climate and costs of litigation, we determined participating in this game is not in the best interests of the NCAA."

They could no longer defend exorbitantly profiting from "player likenesses" while the actual players sat with no compensation.

I'm glad.

WIll be sad to see no more NCAA games, but with how bad they games have been the last few years I'm glad I'll no longer feel compelled to spend the money on them lol.

i'm pretty sure that there will be a college football game just not labelled "NCAA."

This.

Honestly, in my mind, it wouldn't be so bad if the NCAA wouldn't be busting guys for selling jerseys and rings and getting free tattoos....busting them like they were cheating on exams or doping

Apparently they still intend to make college football games just with no NCAA logos

Work with the colleges and/or conferences individually? Still will come back to the same issue.

I heard on the radio EA sports still own the rights to the game. Everything will be the same besides seeing NCAA.

That's disappointing. It would have been sweet to see 2K Sports get another crack at football video games.

I guess (technically) they still could? They could do what EA is doing and just go straight to the universities, right?

Potentially. We'll have to wait and see...

Don't be surprised to see that happen, and I'm talking on the NFL level, maybe college but I hear NBA2K has some Create A Draft Class feature so if they had that in a NFL game we wouldn't need a college football game.
