Ron Jaworski's top 32 QB's 2013

527 posts in this topic

I can explain: sometimes when people crown someone the best, it takes a lot to mentally unseat them. Rodgers will be considered #1 by most fans years after he actually stops being the best. As Ravens fans, we'll let you know the DAY Flacco POSSIBLY edges out Rodgers (if it happens), because we want it to be true. Most other fans would need years of definitive proof before they bother to change their minds. Winning the Super Bowl is that day and that's why some people would argue Flacco #1. It's saying "From this moment on, our QB is gathering proof that he is the best". It doesn't mean that proof is there yet.

Love the explanation.

I guess I once again have to remind people that pretty much everyone in this thread, myself included, have said that as of right now, Rodgers -- not Flacco -- is the guy we would want to build a team around.

Yes but QB play is also a factor in sacks. Rodgers' biggest criticism is that he holds onto the ball too long. And Flacco won the Super Bowl with worse playoff rushing production than Rodgers. I'm also not saying that Flacco is better. I'm saying if you go completely by the "What have you done for me lately" premise, then Flacco obviously has a case for #1 just like Eli Manning had last year.

Eli wasnt the #1 QB last year... Everybody said he was Elite but i never heard anyone say he is #1 .... To inconsistent.... To me he is not in that pure Elite category... The Watered down Elite ... Yea.

Not truing to take away from anyone but its a difference between hitting a hot streak and being a consistent QB.... I cant lie when Rodgers destroyed us (THEY DIDNT PUNT ONCE) in that playoff game... I thought he was just hiot during those playoffs.... He has consistently played on that high level... Not on that unbelievable level but on the top-ish level.

Cam Newton should definitely catapult to the Top 5, what with Brady;s age and current situation.

Eli also had an atrocious game against SF in the NFCCG. His SB performance was great, but he didn't have nearly the playoff run that Flacco put together. That said there were still a lot of ppl who started talking HoF about Eli that playoff win despite career numbers that aren't nearly as good as Flacco's.

Interesting statement. Not agreeing or disagreeing, but once upon a time the criteria for elite was championships. Now all of a sudden, people diminish that accolade by saying it's a "team game"

Only 3 QBs in the league that have more than 1 Super Bowl win right now, and if I'm not mistaken, there are only 7 QBs who have won 1. What's real laughable is the number of playoff wins that all the other 25 QBs have - Matt Ryan of which only has 1...but I guess I'm blowin smoke here since it's a team game...

Dont know about all that... I hear ppl say his D is terrible but .... To me they have one of the better D-Lines in the league.... 2 11+ sack guys... A DT with 6 sacks... They have DROY LB Luke back there with Thomas and Beason.

On O they have a good O-Line and he has weapons.... To me its all about Cam Maturing ... Their team as a whole needs to Mature

Cam showed great maturity in his passing game.  He also made less needless runs.

Actually a couple of years ago when Rivers played on the bum knee... When he was a topish QB.. I heard ppl call him Elite...

Flacco has a ring ..,. No one can take that waya... The guy was the hottest QB in the league in the playoffs.... Ive given him props every time ive talked about him... I wont down the dude to make my QB look good..... Saying That it is a team game... Without Jacoby returns... You most likely dont win the Superbowl.... Flacco and Torrey Smith said the same thing.... So yes it is a team game... In the playoffs nearly every team is a Elite type team (The deeper you go) .... Rodgers is better then Eli but the Giants beat them in the plaoffs last year... If you go by championships only... Eli is btter then Rodgers

Chamionships weigh alot and it should.... It no doubt should... I just dont think it ends the conversation.

Jeff Saturday talked about it today... He thinks QB's get to much crdit and blame (and dude played with Peyton and Rodgers) ... Im not using this because he said he would take Ryan over Flacco..... This is not about them....

Ima just leave this alone because ive given Flacco his props and it is what it is... You guys know who i perfer..

Whats crazy is Ryan wasnt even in this convo..lol

Panthers fan?!?!

Draft a Franchise game he means

Cam showed great maturity in his passing game.  He also made less needless runs.

What do you mean by "needless" runs? He ran basically the same amount between 2011 and 2012 with a similar average. He was also sacked more - and at a higher percentage.

I thought he was smarter about when he would run.  His O-line has improved, which will help him this upcoming season.

Im not talking abbout the future... Im talking about as of now.... If Matt Ryan won a Championship next year.. He would have the production and a ring and i still wouldnt put him over Rodgers... Unless Rodgers just have a HORRIBLE season and Matt Ryan break records...

Rodgers is the most complete QB in my mind in the NFL right now.... skill set wise and football production wise...

I do think the system helps Rodgers some but i would never diminish his production.... He is still putting up those stats with wins with his arm.

The difference between his stats and Brees stats to Rodger stats is that Brees pad his stats like no other.....Similar to Ryan... Ive seen the Packers take out Rodgers when the game is out of control so his stats could be even higher.

Not saying Flacco and Ryan cant pass Rodgers...... Right now they are not  there tho

I can't disagree.

There were a bunch of Giants fans claiming he was the best.  He had just won his second Superbowl, and had more recent success in the postseason than the other QBs with multiple titles.  That was the argument they gave.

Football is a team sport but there's no denying that the QB is by and large the most important factor in winning games. There is a huge correlation between how good a QB is and how many games his team wins. No one's saying Eli is better than Rodgers because he has 2 rings to Rodgers' 1, but it's definitely a factor when considering them.

I hate the argument that rings or wins aren't indicative of QB skill when 90% of people go into games predicting the team with the better QB will win. There's a reason why Rodgers, Peyton, and Brady made the postseason and Gabbert, Cassel, and Weeden didn't.

And no, you can't say we wouldn't have won if Jacoby doesn't score 7 on a kick return. Games are fluent. You can't take one play away and assume the rest would fall the same.

To Rivers' credit back then, he had a lot of playoff success in his early years, among the best all time in terms of postseason wins his first five seasons.

PS Sorry for the multiple posts with quotes.  I was just catching up.  Don't feel the need to answer all my quotes if it annoys you.

No, he's the guy I drafted in the NFL franchise draft on the boards. But I am a big Cam fan, very fun to watch.

...Could've tied the game for us. But obviously I don't need to say the very last play of the game doesn't affect the plays after it since there are no plays after it.

This is all interesting fodder, but these rankings, like all the others, are completely subjective and can go a lot of different ways.

Joe Flacco is the #1 QB where it counts the most and I'm more than happy that he is a Raven.

Without Jacoby returns... You most likely dont win the Superbowl....

If we're doing that, then we can say that if our defense showed up for the second half, it would have been a blowout. Can't just pick a random play and say we wouldn't have won if this didn't happen

Well, I wouldn't expect them to say that our defense sucked eggs and we should have blown those clowns out
