Why has Elvis Dumervil become slightly disrespected?

I hate to type this.  Go back and look at the game we had in Denver and you will not see him in on no more than a couple plays. He was getting beat in one on ones for most of the day.  Just saying.  He's gotta play better in Baltimore.

He will be used more effectively in Baltimore and should have a easier time since he won't be playing full time but people are expecting him to come and and put up 20 sacks and that just aint gonna happen. He played all over for Denver as well including at Defensive tackle iirc. But him being fresh for passing downs will be huge.

I think it mostly has to do with playing alongside Von miller. Dumervil used to be the guy and put up the monster sack/pressure/hurry numbers. Analysts seem to love that stuff. Even Pff whose stat analysis I tend to like more than most doesn't equate for a guy doing his job perfectly within a system if it doesn't directly impact the play.

What I'm getting at is that Dumervil was split out wide on the end in Denver's base defense last year to force the o-lines hand into doubling him. In doing so it would typically leave Von miller 1-on-1 or if they doubled him someone else was coming free. Miller gets the stats and the credit, but Dumervil set the table so he could eat.

Without the stats u don't get the credit. We see it all the time. I don't think it's a Baltimore thing.

Or how about:

*Ravens give player with trouble past a second chance*

Media/other fans: They you go the Ravens signing another troubled player

*Pats sign player with troubled past*

Media/other fans: What a great organization to help this guy out, they can absorb any issues he has because they have such a strong locker room and in the end the gamble is worth the risk for them.

lol

Troubled past? What did I miss? Some arrest or something from last year?

I was more making a general analogy, many blasted the Ravens when they signed Stalleorth or Ro McClain, but meanwhile praise the Pats when they sign guys like Ochocinco or Haynesworth.

I think he had a DUI and a felony assault charge before.

In order to get a Qb scrambling out of the pocket and turning the ball over you need Pass Rush.  Ravens are going to be a nightmare and that is what will get us into the post season next year...

Who would not criticise us for signing stallworth? He killed someone. That was the most dispicable signing we've had. Also legitimate to criticise the rolando move as it turns out.
I also heard plenty of chad johnson criticism so I don't see where you are coming from there. Other than the few supporters that love his shtick.
Why do so many of us have this woe is me attitude. First of all you merntion fans. Well they are called fanatics for a reason. All fans, ours inclded, will of course spin any decision in favor of their team
As for the media. In reality there are some that underrate our team and plenty of otherrs who overrate us. Don't take things so personally. Remeber analysts are entertainers. You should take it as such. Every team plays the disrespect card. Its comical.

Oh I totally agree, it was just a general observation. Teams that are the media's darlings get praised for taking risks, while other teams don't get the same benefit of the doubt.

I'm not saying that players don't get criticized by fans and media, I was more talking about the general response to a signing/trade, when the Pats signed Chad everyone was praising them for taking the risk on a guy; some people were even thinking he could be the next Randy Moss in their system (and then he did nothing lol).

I don't take it personally, I was just pointing out the inconsistency, which I know has already been well established by this point, but it doesn't mean that its not there still.

I'll tell you what I don't understand is why so many keep calling him Elmis instead of Elvis

What the heck is that all about!?

Frankly I don't understand it myself. I heard it first on NFL.com with Birk repeating his name as Elmis just like the host did earlier!

To think that Elvis perhaps was the most famous American name since WW2!

He's a Raven now. Question answered.

he fell into a media void. The only line that matters is we won't be as good cuz we lost to much.

I agree, although I think he'll address his critics and will be one of the most deadliest pass rushers this season.
