He came back well after the first repair. I camt image why the other knee would be any different.

The knees can only take so much. While I do think Webb will be fine it'll take some time.  Plus two knee surgeries can also play tricks on the mind, make the player more hesitant.

Luckily for Webb he's still young and very confident.

Webb, Smith, Graham, Chykie, Asa, Anthony, Moe Lee

Johnson is older and he may be a veteran leader but we have enough leadership in the secondary....

Yes, we do

7 Cornerbacks, man i don't know. You also are leaving alot of development guys there with no vet aside from Webb.

It depends. I've thought Chykie Brown or Asa Jackson would make better safeties than CB. Perhaps we use them in that way. Kinda like Haruki who played dime.

I have to say I dislike what I've seen from Brown against the run. He's really got to improve. I actually don't know if he's guaranteed a roster spot. Of all our CB I think he has the biggest risk of getting cut next to Johnson.

I don't like him that much to be honest but everyone seems to dote on him. It seems like he is a lock for some reason but he was pretty bad in zone, isn't good against the run, and is hyper aggressive. We can do better and we have better waiting for his spot imo. They need to get up and take it. I'm looking at you two, Asa and Moe. Also you are right about Asa he is a playmaker the staff is hoping they can teach him cover skills. He has all the physical skills and ball skills though. Just can't cover, which just might be required for a CB.

Yeah, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Chykie Brown was cut in favor of Moe Lee or Marc Anthony or something. I don't think he's guaranteed a spot at all. Then again, he was considered somewhat of a project so I don't want to be too harsh on him. He's a bit of an older player at I think 26 going on 27 in December. He does play hyper-aggressive and dare I say he reminds me of Frank Walker to an extent, lol. He has really nice physical measurements. I like his potential but the P-word can kill you.

I thought Asa was a pretty good press guy in college?

That's why Chykie most likely makes it. We knew when we drafted him that he was going to be a project. I honestly don't think we even wanted him to play all that much last year, but injuries changed things. For how raw he was, I think he played fairly well. There's still work to be done, but we knew that going in, and I think the flashes he did show last year and enough to give him a spot.

But who did he play against? He played lesser competition and he lacks the strength to do it in the NFL. He is however very much willing to get up in a WR face though, but at this level, barking and getting into a fight you can't handle will get you burned.

That's true, but Lardarius Webb had the same label and he turned out well. It depends on whether you're mentally strong or not. That's what will make his career. We'll have to see.

Yeah, I don't think Chykie's gone. If I said that or implied it, perhaps I got a little too caught in the moment but I don't know if he's exactly safe. My issue is he's a bit older as he's 26-27. Now, that's not old but when you consider some of the other talent here in addition to Webb being the same age, it's a slight issue--I emphasize slight. I think Brown was good on ST, right? I thought I remembered him having some good plays. I could have a bad memory so correct me there if I do. With that said, I just don't know if he's guaranteed a spot. I do think he'll make it, as I predicted before. I just don't think he has the job and he could be a surprise cut. I can see that--definitely.

Yeah he's a little old. I don't anticipate him ever being a starter, but I think he's a good role player. He is good on ST as well. He plays primarily as a gunner because of his speed.

I just don't see someone like Moe Lee being better than Brown. I like Moe, but I don't think he has the speed or hips to make the team. I think they'd sooner cut Johnson if Anthony proves his worth.

Yeah, I thought I remembered him doing well on ST. He'll most likely make the team on that alone. We also don't like to cut picks, so I think that'll help as well. Just like Doss, I think he'll need to be dominated by Lee or Anthony to be cut and the other guys would need to look really sharp as well. I really do like Lee a lot, however. I've followed him for a bit in college, and he has very good skills. He has a nice upside and I really think he'll surprise some people. I personally think he'll be a PS stash for a year and then brought up next year. I think Anthony will be one of those IR toe injury guys. Lol.

Agreed. I like Moe as well. I just don't think he's the guy this year. He's a good developmental piece. Even if he does excel in the preseason, I still think he's one to get cut and go to the PS. It happens every year with guys like him (Omar Brown, Josh Bynes, etc). As much attention as UDFAs get, I think they're vastly overrated.

I thought Webb had good zone awareness though, thats something that is hard to teach but critical for a defensive back. Webb was able to come in and outplay those ahead of him because of that. Asa I think will come along soon, at least I hope so.

I'm not sure. I remember reading that Webb didn't turn it on until he was chewed out by John. Regardless I think Asa and Webb have quite a few similarities one being both come from small schools. I think both have their strengths but I think they have some similarities as well at least early on in their development.

So brown had 11 st tackles, 3 assists and 4 missed tackles. Pff gives him a -3.5 overall st grade

Ugh. That doesn't sound too good. I thought I remembered him doing better than that. Man. He can't catch a break. Lol

Yeah, he was a good STer for us. I dont care what PFF says, I trust my eyes and he made several very nice plays especially in punt coverage.

He was more up and down as a CB, but he played well at times and even passed Jimmy on the depth chart until he had some poor showings in the playoffs.

Overall, I think he palyed well given the role he was thrust into. He is certainly an almost guaranteed lock to make the roster and is a player that is only going to get better.

God, I hope Webb can come back from the second ACL injury like he did the first one. He was a shutdown beast when healthy. Yes I said it right...........when healthy........A SHUTDOWN BEAST!

I think that's a common thought--Webb being a shutdown beast

Sometimes I do remember things wrong or have a sketchy memory and in this instance I'll agree with both assessments. Lol. I know I remember Brown making some really bad choices at times but like you said I thought he was at least a quality ST player. I thought I remembered some good plays by him.

I'm not sure he's a guarantee lock but he's definitely very close.

Damn right my brother, but I hope he is healthy enough after that second surgery to come back just as strong as he did last time before the second injury. I worry, only because we all saw how Foxworth struggled after he had his injury. The man was never the same. Injuries are a strange thing. I am banking on Webb, because I honestly feel I am his biggest fan. I just love the way he always gives 110% on every play.

I think Webb will be fine for whatever my opinion is worth. He seems very confident so lack of it doesn't seem to be an issue. He's also a better CB than Foxworth ever was so there's that as well. We'll see but my money is on him bring a beast again

To be fair, I'm not sure how much trust I have in those special teams numbers...I haven't done a ton of player comparrisons for special teams using the site ratings. I just think its interesting to see how certain players look statisticly. I have seen several players unjustly characterized when comparing general impressions with actual stats. Most commonly involving dropped passes and strong or poor tackling.

I'm changing my vote. I think our CB corps will have Webb, Smith, Graham, Brown and Jackson with Johnson or Anthony as the 6th and later put on IR (unless another CB gets injured) when Thompson returns. I think Elam and Huff will play quite a bit of dime and I see us running more 3 safety sets. I think we'll ultimately carry 5 safeties and 5 CB.

This is what I think happens for the most part.  With Huff's ability to play CB, we can go with only 5 and carry more S's.  I think we start at 6 CB's though, until Thompson gets back as you said.  I'd much rather have one of Johnson or Anthony over Levine for the first few weeks.

Disguise seems to be the Ravens defense MO, and in my view I think having 2CB & 3S sets best provides that. If you have guys like Elam, Huff & a guy like Ihedigbo or Thompson or even (hold my breath) Rhodes back there as the other safety you set yourself up for excellent versatility. You can mix and match formations to disguise your plan. Then, you don't need as many CBs, too. Smith, Webb, & Graham are all pretty good CBs to say the least. Smith has really started to raise his game. Graham really played lights-out in terms of what we expected from him. Webb is a beast if he can remain healthy. Graham also supposedly has the ability to play safety from what I remember last year. Do you remember when Ed was holding out of camp or whatever? When he didn't show and everyone was saying that Graham would play FS and then Ed came? I think Graham can play that role if asked.

I'm really excited for this group.
