Anyone have any advanced info on Asa? Like zone awareness, hip movement, press ability, and ball skills. I have Moe Lee making the team and Marc Anthony on the practice squad leaving Asa out in the cold, but its more that I don't know as much about him as I do them.

B22 agrees.

Yes... But Jackson could be a solid return man in the future tho. Thompson has a better chance of getting cut

Man I just can't see either of them being cut.

I think Webb, Smith, Brown, Jackson & Graham are all locks. That's five right there. Johnson, Anthony & Lee are wild cards. Anthony is a draft pick, but we've proven to be clever at stashing those. Johnson has a great chance to make the roster, because we like him and on top of it he's a veteran and brings that leadership Harbaugh loves. Is he good on ST? I thought I remembered him being on ST at some point. He provides some veteran presence because Webb does have injury concerns, whether or not we want to admit it. As a result, I can see him make the roster on that alone.

As for the nonsense about Asa Jackson not making the team, I think that's completely wrong. I'm not calling names here, but I see very little indication he'll get cut. I feel that's just someone stirring the pot. Jacoby Jones has a very, very strong chance to get cut. Asa Jackson had a big learning curve because he had a shortened offseason due to the graduation thing with Cal Poly and the NFL's stupid rule. People seem to forget that. He provides a lot to the return game, from the reports. I think he'll replace JJ on PR this year, and possibly on both next year unless we keep David Reed.

If I had to bet, this is what I think happens:

1. Webb

2. Smith

3. Graham

4. Brown

5. Jackson

6. Johnson

PS. Moe Lee

IR. Marc Anthony (sprained ego)

What are Asa's strengths and weaknesses. I was looking for more information but there is little. The 6th spot is our developmental spot I would have Johnson at 5 since he is actually gonna play alot. Since you seem to have him above a vet maybe your the guy i need to get info from.

I can't remember where I read it (I know I read it at some point last year during the season) but I know someone called Asa Jackson a mini-Ed Reed. I know people use that for Omar, but I know it was said about Asa as well. I just can't remember.

Asa reminds me a lot of Corey Graham. In fact, he reminds me a lot of him. I see his role very similar to that. I think he needs some development, though.

They did, but someone else called Asa mini Ed or maybe it was Ed Reed Jr. Something like that. I know I remember it, I just can't remember who

To add to Asa Jackson I remember him being one of the premier perimeter corners at his level..I cant remember the stats but I dont think he gave up a TD or many big plays in his senior year...I may be off here--just going on memory

On a side I am really big on Chykie Brown..His play reminds me alot of the Steelers corners of like Keenan Lewis, Cortez Allen and Ike Taylor that he has great length, is physical, and confident

Must be good having all these mini Eds runnin around. Probably Webb, sounds like something he would say.

I think instead of Asa we need to invest in someone with more size and a different style then most of the guys we have. You know just in case Jimmy doesn't pan out.

Yeah, but that's not really for this year. We'll have to do that next year. Right now it's a bit late to be trying to do something like that. Lol. But we do have guys! Just not any who are those big and nasty CB.

I'm pretty sure it was Ed himself. I think Ed also said that about Thompson so idk

I can't see Mark Anthony and Moe making it over Chris Johnson, Chykie, and Asa. I really like their potential, but barring an incredible preseason, they'll be on IR, PS, or another team.

Maybe we keep more than six guys at CB, but Idk.

Maybe they'll keep one of them on as a CB/S hybrid so that all of them make the team.

It wouldn't be a complete surprise with the injury woes of Webb, and Jimmy.

Your kinda right we need to draft one im sure. Guess im just hoping Marc Anthony could work toward that while playing on special teams. He's only two inches taller but from the few draft profiles I've seen looks like hes the more physical press guy.

I feel Chykie Brown fits this description, and as stated Jimmy Smith...That is two very solid young corners with starting experience. I am not against drafting a bigger CB next year if Smith does not progress as expected but I feel fairly confident in the group we got developing well

This and WR are the hardest positions to forecast. I'm excited for the training camp battles. As of now, I have Anthony and Lee out. Even Jackson could be out depending on how many safeties we keep - there's good competition there, too.

I'm not sure how I feel about Chykie Brown. He's looked decent in the limitedtime that he was on the field, but he gets too many penalties for my tastes. He has gotten fwd past the point of being a liability, though.

I threw out a WC and voted for Moe Lee as the #6. I've heard good things about him so far, and he has the best size of any of the remaining players. I dont think Johnson makes it tbh. I wasnt overly impressed by him and he is pretty old. For me it comes down to Anthony vs Lee, and it could go either way. Should be an interesting camp battle with ST possibly being the determining factor.

I voted for a little bit of an upset.  Obviously, anything can happen due to injuries, unexpected issues off the field, etc., but after Webb, Smith, Graham and Brown, I would not be surprised to see any of the others either make the team or get cut.  I picked Anthony and Lee just because I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility, albeit a little unexpected.  I think we should expect the unexpected a bit here.

If I had to put together a list today. It would be. Webb, Smith, Graham, Brown, Johnson and Jackson on the 53 with Anthony on the PS and Moe

I'm not sure where all the Moe Lee love is coming from. TA mentioned the kid had a pretty good OTA but football isn't played in shorts. He's gonna to show and prove once the pads come on. Then you also have to look at the depth in front of him. We saw Omar Brown play as close to lights out in the preseason as one can last year and not make the 53. So I'd much rather see Moe in action first because i start pushing him up that depth chart.

Right now I'd give Jackson the edge over Anthony just because of his ST abilities. He's an smaller CB that probably only has a home inside. So nickle, Dime and Quarter packages are where he'll probably see the field most, but the Ravens have a lot of guys that already excel in those areas. Webb, Graham and Brown. But now that I think about it, the same things were said about Webb and Brown and both guys have done a pretty good job outside the numbers. So i'm gonna be careful to put limitations on Asa.

I've officially put my vote in, and I chose Webb, Smith, Graham, Brown, Johnson, and Jackson.  I chose Johnson because I really can't see us going into the season with 2 developmental guys at the end of the depth chart.  With the increase in focus on throwing the ball, we're going to have to rotate our CBs quite a bit.  If we're forced to play the #5 guy on our depth chart, I'd rather it be someone like Johnson who has the experience and isn't a half bad player to boot.  I'd be much more concerned by throwing one of those young, inexperienced guys into the fire.

I agree with your list. I really think that'll be the CB corps unless there's some crazy injury or unless we want to ease along Webb.

As for Moe Lee, there's a lot of talent there. I obviously don't think he'll make the 53, but I do believe he'll make the PS. I think we'll stash him there and bring him up if there's an injury. He has a better probability of clearing waivers than Marc Anthony, of whom I believe will be an IR stash a la Streeter. I agree regarding Jackson being more of an inside guy but as you said, Webb has proven that size isn't always indicative.

We don't exactly have two developmental guys, because we've developed Brown for three years now (this is his third year). Jackson's been developing since last year, even if his offseason was cut short. I do agree that Johnson will probably make the team because of his veteran skills and his leadership and all that stuff. I'm not overly impressed by him except for that one great play he made against (I think it was) Pittsburgh, but he's decent.

Interesting. I like Lee a lot, but I can't discredit Johnson. I based my gut call on Johnson making the team because of how Harbaugh loves those veteran guys with leadership and good stories. Last year he had Considine because of questions at the safety position in addition to wanting to improve ST. Considine wasn't good at all on defense, but he played decent if not above average on ST. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson makes the team and why I think he will make the team.

Yeah, these are very hard positions. The thing about our safety corps is that Huff can play CB, so I can see us have more safeties at the expense of CB. It's entirely possible we could have just five, with someone out., I don't see Jackson going anywhere, though. He's supposedly a ST ace with great return ability. With JJ being a free agent next year, I think we'll be holding onto Jackson and even David Reed. That's a different subject, though.

If we did go with five safeties, I think Johnson would be the odd man out.
