2013 NCAA Football Season

1,322 posts in this topic

Just like the NFL, we're closing in on NCAA FB. A lot of good story lines coming into this season: Johnny Manziel coming off of his Heisman, Ohio State returning to eligibility after an undefeated year, Bama with a very good chance of 3-peating, Oregon without Chip Kelly, Javeon Clowney and Teddy Bridgewater competing for the #1 pick in the draft, Aaron Murray trying to complete his legacy at UGA with a Nat'l Championship, Mack Brown on the ropes in Austin, last season before the playoff is introduced, and I could go on.

I'm going to start off this thread by predicting the winners of each conference and the Nat'l Championship. Feel free to do the same.

SEC: Bama

ACC: FSU

BIG12: Texas

B1G: OSU

PAC: Oregon

Big East: Louisville

National Championship: Bama over Oregon

P.S. Hook 'Em Horns!!!!!!

No love for Mizzou in the SEC?

In all seriousness, as much as it pains me to say this, if you are going OSU in B1G, then I say it's their time to take the National Championship.

btw - I looked at 'Bama's schedule. Could someone tell me how they have as many home games as they do? 7 home games out of 12 and then they get to play Va-Tech in Atlanta...so really 8

In the ACC, I'll just go ahead and say Virginia "wins" the recruitment race, as the No. 1 prospect just commited to them and Virginia got some nice talents this year

ACC: Miami. Book it now, Golden is bringing the U back.

What's your over/under for them in terms of Ws?

I think 10 wins is about where they will end up. I think they could easily go undefeated since the only "tough" teams on the schedule IMO are FSU and UF but I assume they will probably bomb a couple games as usual.

Duke Johnson is a stud. I hope for the sake of college football that Miami becomes elite again. THey're one of those teams where it's good for the sport if they succeed.

Agreed on both. I am actually really looking forward to Morris, Dorsett, Perryman, Sandland, Henderson, and Howard this year. The team looks really promising if their defense figures out how to stop anyone.

Most college football seem to be played on a Sunday afternoon NZ time. I'm really looking forwards to sitting back with a beer and watching some of the games this year. I don't have a team yet, but we'll see where that goes.

Curious if people view Johnny Manziel as an NFL QB

While size and stature have been constantly proven to be non-determining factors, hard for me to see him as a pocket passer. I don't recall being wowed by his arm strength, but then I can't say I saw him make some big throws. At 185lbs, wondering if his frame could withstand the NFL hits. Obviously he could be +15lbs by the end of the next 2 or 3 yrs but he doesn't appear to have Mike Vick speed, nor does that 200lb frame strike fear into anyone similar to Tim Tebow's frame

I agree. I don't see him having a successful NFL career.

Side note: People on these boards are crazy with the arbitrary negs lol.

I'll take Bridgewater.

I'll tell you who could have been a star and that's the Casey Pachall kid from TCU.

Unfortunately, he brings a ton of off the field baggage

My biggest problem with Bridgewater is the whole wears gloves on both hands thing. Im sorry but wearing a glove on your throwing hand just doesn't look right.

Let the college season begin!  To get things started, he's a cheat sheet of some of the new season's most promising matchups:

Any players you're particularly excited about?  Keep in mind that this will be the last season with the traditional post-season system.  After that, we'll have a playoff!
