Headin' up to Philly for a few days with the fam.

Other than Ginos and Pats, and the Liberty Bell and all that, does any one have any ideas for what to do ? See ? or Eat ?

We are staying down town by the Liberty Bell.

Do use caution at night though. That city, like Baltimore, can get REAL sketchy from one street to the next.

Yeah we noticed every thing around here pretty much shuts down at five pm. So odds are good we will be in well before dark.

South Street is meant to be enjoyed after dark, just don't wander off the beaten path was what I was getting at.

We are back.

Never made it down to South Street.

We did get the brisket at DiNicks and it was completely OUT OF THIS WORLD !!!!!!!!!!

If any one else here goes into Philly, visit the Reading Terminal Market.  its a foodies paradise.  78,000 square feet of food.

DiNicks in some where in the middle and their brisket is flat out amazing.

As far as the Genios / Pats debate, both are WAY over hyped, but Pats by far is a better cheese steak.

Despite the weather we all had a good time.  Even wearing my Ravens tee shirts the people were super friendly.  One person even stopped me to let me know  Edgar Allen Poes ties to Philadelphia.
Considering its only a coupla hours up there from where I live its likely my family and I will make a return visit.

Thanks for those who helped in this thread and gave their advise.

Honestly, I think Philly steaks are WAY over hyped in general. I've had Geno's, Pats's, Jim's, Tony Luke's, and I've gotta say that I've had steaks that put them all to shame right here in MD.

But if you are inclined..take stadium exit off of 95..drive straight for about a mile, hang a right on Passyunk and take your pick.

South Street is cool too, if you enjoy adult beverages, I hight recommend Copa Bananna on South and 3rd or 4th (i believe) the best Margarhitas in philly by far.

Other than that, old city is very cool if you are into history, there are a ton of different walking/carriage tours to do that are good. I recommend the ghost tours that they do at night..usually the guides are dressed in colonial attire..good stuff.

Hmm there's the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia Zoo, Eastern State Penatentary is very good too..that's where AL Capone and others were imprisoned.

Hope this helps. Or if you want free beers..go to an Eagles game wearing an Emmit Smith jersey..

We did do the haunted tour and it was WAY lame.

TONS of missed potential to have fun and scare people.  It was just stories.  They were neither historically accurate nor scary.

The walk around was quite nice though.

We wanted to do the penitentiary tour but ran out of time.  Next time though.

Tell me something Jeep, its been many a years since I have had a really GOOD cheese steak in this area, where is your go to ?

Thanks for the tips though.

If you are ever coming through Cecil County, make a stop at the Market Street Cafe in Charlestown..SUPERB Cheese Steak. Hmm also the Pat's chain makes one that rivals anything that I've had in Philly IMO. Not saying that the steaks in Philly are bad or anything, just that they are a different animal completely here it seems..I guess it's a pepsi vs coke argument lmao
