Jags Create new Position for versatile player

20 posts in this topic

The Jacksonville jaguars have created a new Offensive position for their new rookie Ex-QB that is reportedly quite versatile

"... the Jacksonville Jaguars, has listed him on their roster not as a running back, tight end, wide receiver or quarterback, but as an "OW...."

This isn't even new. I remember when they asked Dexter McCluster about his position before the draft and he said he was an

Jags just want attention

Darren Sproles, Aaron Hernandez, and Marcel Reece all fit the role of OW.

Honestly, I don't see why this attracts so much criticism. He's a versatile player and a good athlete. What's wrong with listing him as an OW? College scouts recruit guys listed as an ATH (meaning athlete). Some players are even listed on rosters as an ATH. I don't see the big deal here. He's a weapon that can be used all over the field. This isn't even a story.

Gus Bradley worked under Pete Carroll, who I'm pretty sure referred to a pass rushing hybrid role in his defense as "Elephant".

It's just the coaches using their own terminology in an officially recognized way.

Offensive Weapon pretty much sums up Denard Robinson. He did pretty much everything at Michigan, and it can only make him even more versatile in the NFL.

I am just thankful the ravens have scrapped the useless gimmick offensive player from the play book. There was nothing worse than suddenly bringing in Troy smith or tyrod Taylor only to garner a delay if game penalty, a burned timeout or a minimal to no gain.

OW is probably a gimick position and will be irrelevant like the WIld Cat Offense of 2008.

I think the Marcel Reece probably has the closest potential of showing the OW position, but the Raiders might waste his production by relegating him to FB position.
