Stupid Comments Around The League

I think it's stupid to arrest him for that and also stupid to suspend him for a stupid arrest. Really dumb. I mean come on now. Arrested for barking back at a dog?

Florida is definitely nothing like Kansas if you get my drift.

I wonder if PETA will have to say about this. Hope they don't try to levy any sanctions against the kid.

Whatever the heck happened to accountability??

"That's what agents get paid to do, to orchestrate the contract and to let you know what you can and can't do as far as workouts and OTAs and things of that sort. ... He didn't do that, so in my opinion, you have to be let go. We all are held accountable for our actions." <-----------really dude?? Did you really just say THAT? Who can we call from the Daily Show to clown this guy. Where the heck is Tony Kornheiser to clown this dude?

 - Tarell Brown on firing his agent after losing $2 million by not attending 49ers OTAs

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000221220/article/tarell-brown-lost-2m-over-missed-49ers-workouts

Also to be noted for shameful and shrewd behavior, someone from the 49ers for not giving the man a courtesy call to confirm 'Hey Tarell, you sure you want to pass up on $2m? It's in your contract that you should be here to get it and you're not here. Just wanted to make sure'

Not sure how people felt about the Brian Westbrook situation a few years back, but thinking about this situation, should players feel wrong about announcing they are getting more money than they are supposed to?

This is what makes headlines on NFL.com? I knew the media AND the League for that matter, were absurd, just didn't realize they were this absurd. They want to make sure you know what the players said in their personal twitter space even if you don't care, they want to take you in the court room when insignificant athletes are in trouble, and they want you to know what teenagers and 20 yr olds are wearing to parties.

I actually didn't even read the article, assuming it would be 60-90 seconds of my life that could be better spent

NFL.com and ESPN.com need to stop having bloggers. They need to be more professional, and stop trying to make football into a gossip sport. I don't want to be closer to the players, and see all sides of them. They should be soldiers on Sunday. People who fight for you who you know nothing about personally.

This isn't as big as ESPN is making it. The double standard is crazy.

You're opening a can of worms that we're not allowed to discuss here.  Remember, we're all "purple".

I just don't get all the excessive attention it's getting, I wish they would just stop talking about it. The guy messed up by saying a common offensive term, that I guarantee has been said by every single person in that locker room at least once. He just got caught on camera.

If you ever saw a Desean Jackson rap video then you'd understand.

Double standard? You made it seem like Roddy White's comments were akin to activating a nuclear bomb. Meanwhile, his sentiment was shared by not only blacks, but whites, asians, latinos as they were trying to assess what does justice really mean.

I'm just saying. This is probably gonna get deleted in 5 mins. But I'm gonna call it like I see it

Riley Cooper.  As if PHI wasn't chaotic enough before.

His apology was super interesting. He said extremely and disgusted like 7 times each. Thought it was awkward that he made sure you knew he was drinking - as if that would be a good excuse for his comments.

The regular season starts in a little over a month. Maclin getting injured was a blessing for the first couple days and then could have potentially turned into a curse shortly after...

How was Maclin's getting hurt a blessing, he's the anchor in PHI's passing game?

There were some comments around the league suggesting that he would have been cut had Maclin not been injured. There are other comments suggesting otherwise.

Also how many DBs do you think are going to take unnecessary shots at this guy now. It could be as little as 3. But it could very well be more than that. Would be awesome and amazing if they took the high road for him to really reflect and ponder on that

Oh, you meant a blessing for Cooper's career.  Anyway, Goodell always picks the most opportune to disappear.  He suspends Ed Reed for complete bs, but now he just vanishes...

I need more intel on the Joey Porter fine of 2006 for using a gay slur. Goodell said the team fined Cooper so there was no need for the league to fine him.

Goodell has never hesitated to exert his power in the past, so the reason he gave was bs.  Your comment in Fantasy got deleted btw.

The one you made in response to mine this morning.  Do you think Goodell should've swung his hammer?

I saw that coming. It's ok. In one situation you argue that someone's personal beliefs are over the top. In other situation you argue that something is being blown out of proportion. What next?

As far as Goodell, I don't know. Would he be wrong if he chose to, I don't think so. Goodell does what he wants and everyone has to deal with it. Maybe he's tired of suspending and fining people all the time.

Maybe he's playing the let him go out and get smacked by everyone he just ticked off for 16 games card

I will say this. One thing that really angers me is how everyone is so critical of what guys say on Twitter such that those guys are forced into apologizing or restating their tweets. They are in their own personal space. They told you what was on their mind and in their heart. If you don't like it you click the unfollow button.

That being said, RC was in his own personal space. Those of us that didn't like it are not obligated to do so and we should move on.

RC wasn't in his personal space, he was at a crowded concert.  He aimed his violent slur face-to-face with an actual person.

As a celebrity such as an athlete or a television personality or anyone in the public light, they don't have "personal space" as you say like you or I do. Part of being paid the way they do and having a high profile job is being held to a different standard than you or I.

So much this. My big thing about these clowns (and even guys like Charles Barkley) who say they "aren't role models" is that you don't get to choose whether you're a role model or not. Especially as a person who gets paid an insane amount of money to play a game. And quite frankly, these guys should want to be role models. You're in a position to have a real impact and instead you decide to be embarrass yourself. It's the Manziel argument right now. "Just because I'm good doesn't mean I should be held to a different standard than other people my age." Yes. It. Does. If you don't want the profile, turn down the Heisman.

That's why you have to have mad love for guys like Torrey Smith who just ooze respect and dignity.

All that said, the 24 hour news cycle is really starting to become...I won't say a "problem" but an issue that needs to be managed. The news cycle is what it is, and as much as we hate it those blog posts and tweets and TMZ stories get way more engagement from viewers than pure nuts-and-bolts or positive stories. It is in the economic interest of these news outlets to report what the most people will read. As a result, we all need to understand that every keystroke is permanent and  that 90% of people have a camera on them 100% of the time and are just waiting for something to go down.

Though threatening to beat up people and using epiphets would put you in hot water, regardless of fame.

I hear that 100%. I know it's a moot point, but if it wasn't filmed on somebody's smartphone camera, none of us would know. Maybe Goodell should fine him for "being an NFL player" and acting like an idiot in public. He embarrassed himself. He hurt his wallet. He has teammates who have openly and discretely stated they don't trust him or respect him. There's a possibility that athletes around the league will have negative intentions. He's dealing with consequences either way.

I think the role model conversation is one of philosophical differences and as such is really difficult to have. I don't disagree, but I'm not fully on board

Good looks deleting all the non-political/incendiary comments in addition to the political/incendiary ones, as eastern pointed out to me.  Way to throw the baby out with the bath water...  :eyes:
