New stadium?

152 posts in this topic

Seriously, who in their right mind wants a new stadium with a roof??

We play in the AFC North...ugly weather, cold, nasty rough tough defensive football.

No way..never...I can see some heated seats..sure, but don't complain about skyrocketing ticket prices.

M&T is not even THAT old yet.

I agree. I think The Bank has a good 30-40 years left . There's soo much that can be done to the current stadium and surrounding areas! I think this was all kept in mind , at the time of the design. The projected images of the renovations happening as we speak make the place look new and exciting, IMO .

I for one don't.  Ofcourse I am a fan of the uber-cold.  That Bears game a few years back after snowmageddon where my toes nearly froze off is an experienced that I loved and will never forget.

Please no new stadium! I don't want to have to pay for PSL's again!  No roof either I love the experience of seeing a game outdoors. Especially on those cold days against a division rival.

I loved how there were still mounds of snow strategically placed in the upper deck. I didn't think it was that cold, not as cold as the Ravens /Skins night game 4 years ago.

You see the thing about our ownership is they are very proactive in the upkeep of the stadium and game day experience. For that reason, we will be a modern stadium for the next 30-40 yrs as we should be. There is absolutely no need for more tax dollars when we have such an awesome stadium.

The only upgrades I would like to see is additional parking (maybe add a couple of large 10 level parking garages adjacent to the stadium) and heated seating!

For me it was freezing.  The wind was whirling and I had my back up against the lower level concourse, it was more like a wind tunnel.  A lot of the regulars brought blankets and bags to cover the opening.  not us and It froze the crap out of us.

Well to each his own, but dont call people fools for having differing opinions. Most of the time a bar, especially the home town bar, will have sound for the game. I know the bars I go to have sound for the Ravens games because they cater towards Ravens fans. So it's just a matter of finding the right place. Sure there will be drunk people at a bar, but there are also drunks at games that can be just as annoying.

I've been to quite a few football games but I enjoy being home more than going to the stadium. I love the experience at the stadium, but I like the convenience of my home. I also have a bunch of people around and usually get other fans to come over to talk smack so it's always fun.

Mike and Mike in the Morning were discussing this morning. Better replays, climate controlled room, HDTV, family friendly, were among the perks.

Colin Cowherd was on and I love that he said ~...as if Jerry Jones wouldn't be a billionaire if ticket prices were $68 instead of $140...

I would love a new stadium that we would not have to share with the orioles and we could make it like seattle's stadium except bigger to accomadate 90,000 plus but what would we call the new stadium

We wouldn't have a choice,  a company would buy the rights to the name.

But if i had a choice, i would call it.

The Crows Den

Oh and yes that would be nice with more seating , heck, screw 90 k.  Lets go 100k plus.

Tickets would be cheaper , wouldnt they. The way our fans are, id like to think it would be sold out even with that many seats.

Our owner Steve Biscotti could make alot more Revenue if he decided to build a new stadium somewhere else in owings mills beside we really need our own stadium to call our HOME it I'm pretty Sure none of us want a Dome Correct we may Want a retractable one like Dallas except Bigger, wider and longer

We have to share a parking lot, not a stadium (its not like we're the Giants and Jets). This year was the first time in 17 years that we couldn't work around something that cause a conflict. I'd say that's a pretty good record all things considered.

ok I see your point of view but we should be home our first game but we are not and lets go ahead before more conflicts happen in the future

If it was happening all the time I would agree with you, however this was the first time they haven't been able to work things out. It was a unique situation because the Ravens were trying to schedule a game on Thursday which is normally not the time NFL games are held. It only got more publicity because the Ravens were Super Champions.

Doing that would greatly raise the costs for everything (tickets, concessions, merchandise, etc.) and its not like M&T is bad stadium either. The system and location worked great for the last 17 years and the team is putting money into upgrading the stadium to improve the experience for fans going to the game. Additionally the location is a perfect on in the city.

Owings Mills is the Ravens Training facility, but its out of the way for the majority of Ravens fans to drive out of Baltimore to get there. It would make 0 sense to move the stadium to the outskirts of the city they are based in for gameday.

Just a small fact check, M&T is not 17 years old, it's 15 years old. I guess most of you youngins forget the first two years the Ravens played at Memorial.

That's what I get for just duplicating info from other posters on the board lol

I don't mind this idea. Now I love The Bank but the parking does suck. I'd like to see an improvement to the parking. I also may be in the minority here but I wouldn't be opposed to having a retractable roof like you said. The roof gives you options and that's always a plus. I wouldn't even mind a move but it would need to make sense though I'm sure if we moved the Stadium it would make sense.

With that said this would cost Steve a lot of money. He wouldn't profit from it at least not initially or for a few years. That's probably the biggest hold up outside of our Stadium being pretty up to date.

Also moving the stadium from the city does hurt the city in that tourism brought to the city while people wait for the game.

About Verizon cell service being upgraded and improved at M&T, its because they are a major sponsor of the Ravens and they have to be taken care of first.  I'm going to try my Virgin Mobile smartphone when I go to the training camp practice at the stadium and see how it works, since they are owned by Sprint.

Seems like a daunting task.  But apparently the NFL wants to get all stadiums wired for Wi-fi to help with the dwendling ticket sales around the league.  Last I heard only a few teams were going to be part of the pilot program, which may start in 2013: MetLife (Giants & Jets), Gillette (Patriots), Superdome (Saints), Lucas Oil Stadium (Colts), and BOA Stadium (Panthers).

Apparently there will be in-game apps as well, like being able to listen to mic'd up players on the field, during the game.

They did a couple years back.  I have Sprint, it went from 'no service' to 'AOL circa 1996' with the upgrade.  Progress not perfection.  But I hear Verizon works like a charm.

About Verizon service being improved in the stadium, that was to be expected as they are one of the major sponsors of the Ravens and the team has to take care of them first.  Hopefully the wi-fi rollout will be a success and more stadiums will be added in the future.

It's strange because I saw this article from Oct 2012 saying that Wifi was up and was to be offered to fans last year, but I don't recall ever seeing any wifi active.  Perhaps they changed their mind, or had issues with it failing or something.

Not me...barely any cell service at all and impossibly slow when I can get anything, but I'm not on Verizon.
