New stadium?

152 posts in this topic

Stop, just stop.  We have the one of the youngest, most loved stadiums in football!  M&T will live long and prosper!

Steve Bisciotti said that the stadium is already halfway through its 30 year life expectancy according to this blog: http://ravens24x7.blogspot.com/2009/10/ravens-owner-steve-bisciotti-on-his.html .   I would like to see shorter lines in the bathrooms, but there is not much that can be done about that.  Someone suggested a Ravens museum, if they want to see one there is a large Ravens exhibit at the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yard that maybe should be expanded on.

I did find a old Baltimore Sun article about why they probably won't have upper level escalators at M&T Bank Stadium:http://articles.baltimoresun.com/1998-07-21/sports/1998202112_1_upper-deck-stadium-lower-decks

After the article was written, FedEx Field and Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC did add them, the Panthers owner had them installed because of a fan who died of a heart attack last year climbing down the stairs. If you want to take the stairs go right ahead.  I already get enough exercise parking my car in a garage for $15 in downtown Baltimore for the home games and climbing the stairs.  I would like to see them as a option, but that will probably never happen due to the design of the place.

They are upgrading the stadium, pumping $35M in a few projects over the next couple of years

PICS

I don't think any new building is coming any time soon. The Georgia Dome is junk, it was when it was built.

Agree, a new stadium is not on the way or needed.  The improvements are purely cosmetic, not functional.  It's a football stadium, not a 4-star hotel.  An escalator to the upper level would be nice.

There is a problem with cell phone service reception in the stadium, the Ravens should install Wi Fi because some of us use our smart phones to get fantasy stats and scores of other contests at the game and most of them have that capability.

I wonder if someone is going to suggest to me that two tin cans and some string would solve all that.

I don't have problems with my Verizon phone . I think they did a Verizon upgrade that boosts service in the stadium.

The crying about the entry rules are a crying shame. The escalator complaint is more BS.. walk the steps, I know it's hard work...
Next , the people that say watching at a bar is better are fools. My football watching doesn't need to be revolved around getting drunk. I don't drink during games, I only have a few when I tailgate.

You dont have to be drunk to watch a game at a bar. I watch most Ravens games at a bar with fellow Ravens fans and it is a great experience. Giant TVs all around with all the games of the day going on. It really is an excellent experience, far more enjoyable than going to a game if you dont have good tickets.

Seems like a daunting task.  But apparently the NFL wants to get all stadiums wired for Wi-fi to help with the dwendling ticket sales around the league.  Last I heard only a few teams were going to be part of the pilot program, which may start in 2013: MetLife (Giants & Jets), Gillette (Patriots), Superdome (Saints), Lucas Oil Stadium (Colts), and BOA Stadium (Panthers).

Apparently there will be in-game apps as well, like being able to listen to mic'd up players on the field, during the game.

They did a couple years back.  I have Sprint, it went from 'no service' to 'AOL circa 1996' with the upgrade.  Progress not perfection.  But I hear Verizon works like a charm.

I agree with you about the escalators. If you do not like the stairs get better seats.

But the games have a lot more belligerent drunks than any bar I have ever watched a game at. It seems like bar patrons have a lot more decorum than stadium goers. Besides, you do not have to put up with as many opposing fans in a bar, and the few that are there tend to keep their mouths shut. Better yet, at my house there are not any opposing fans. No lines at the toilet, cheap food and drink, comfortable inexpensive seats, no inclement weather...

Being at the game has its good points, and its bad points.

Most bars don't have sound... So, that kills it for me. If I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be home. Usually too much commotion at bars for my taste . Ive never had bad tickets at the bank, so I wouldn't know. I'll go to the bar for other games, just not Ravens games. A lot of people get destroyed at the bar while watching the game, it's not enjoyable for me.

Sounds like you hangout at senior citizen bars... lol. Maybe if I was going to the Moose Lodge , VFW or Legion.... it would be ok. Haha. I watched a Ravens game once in a bar and it wasn't for me.

Lol. Geezers can be fans too.

On the rare occasion that I watched a game at a local bar (a Green Turtle to be precise) it was full of Ravens fans. Sure there was drinking but not the slobbering drunkenness that I have seen at games. No knifing's, no fights. And NO Steelers fans.

I prefer home as well. Going to a game is a rare thrill, and I prefer to keep it that way. I always have a big party at the house, got the 93 inch HD TV and the 7 speaker surround sound. Its tough to beat.

Well to each his own, but dont call people fools for having differing opinions. Most of the time a bar, especially the home town bar, will have sound for the game. I know the bars I go to have sound for the Ravens games because they cater towards Ravens fans. So it's just a matter of finding the right place. Sure there will be drunk people at a bar, but there are also drunks at games that can be just as annoying.

Yea, I wouldn't even consider The Turtle a bar. If families with kids go to it, I won't . lol. Very little opposing fans come into the bank, from my account.

If you think the experience is better in a BAR then at the stadium, you're a fool. I just don't know how anyone could ever say that.

This is an incredibly ignorant comment, sorry, but you cant objectify something that is completely subjective. You are also completely wrong, but dont let intelligent thought get in the way of your terrible argument.

Wait, I can't be completely wrong if it's subjective .. IMO, the stadium can't be beat for an in-game experience. The fact is, most people don't go because they can't afford... not because they choose not to.

That's not true at all. I know a lot of people who prefer watching from home or at a bar. You get access to internet, redzone, food, drinks, friends, fantasy teams, etc that you miss out on when at the stadium.

Would you rather have season tickets or not have season tickets? I get Internet access at the stadium, I get REDZONE at the stadium , I bring food in, my friends are there. You do miss on some replays and a nice view of the LOS.. I'll admit that, but I'll forgo it to be there in person.

Well the same is true for a bar. It just comes down to personal preference. If you can't see that than you are the fool.

I'd rather have season tickets, but I'd sell 7 of 8 games. I'm much more comfortable watching the game in my home. Your personal preference doesn't speak for everyone.

Depends on where the seats are, but I know for a fact I wouldn't go to every game.

I've been to quite a few football games but I enjoy being home more than going to the stadium. I love the experience at the stadium, but I like the convenience of my home. I also have a bunch of people around and usually get other fans to come over to talk smack so it's always fun.

I'd much rather watch it in a bar as opposed to at the stadium as well. Just because you prefer something doesn't mean everyone else prefers the same.

You can like what you like... Some people like cutting themselves . Just because they like it, does that not make them fools?

This is comical. I guess everyone isn't getting the ioke

If this is a joke, it's not a very good one.

The one in Brandon's draft thread, however? Comedic genius.
