Overrated: Ray Lewis (doesn't mean he's not great, but people act like his teammates can't breathe unless he squeezes the air out of their lungs)

Underrated: Todd Heap

In the video, he says Lewis is not overrated for the entirety of his career, just the last five years.  Maybe that's a little true, but that doesn't really qualify him for a list of most overrated all time.

The Offense carried the defense this time

I get why he put Jacoby, Pitta, Kruger, and Dilfer as "overrated", but I don't think those four are regarded highly enough around the league to be considered overrated. Everyone knows Jacoby's and Pitta's spots on the top 100 are in part to making important plays on the Super Bowl team. Would David Tyree make 2008's top 100 list? Probably. But you wouldn't have to call him overrated just because everyone is giving him his due for one incredible play. Just let them have their moments and let it pass.

This article makes me angry. Pitta overrated? Please. Dilfer overrated - who even gives him any credit? Who is under rating Ed Reed? Anytime you hear Ed Reed it is future HOF Ed Reed. Ray Lewis??????? JJ Territo is a moron.

How the heck is Dilfer overrated?? He's always talked about as the worst QB to ever win the SB. NFL.com's articles are becoming worse than Bleacher Report's. Seriously.

I was gonna say this seemed like a BR article.  Just someone trying to make a splash.  I doubt he's even being honest with himself.

This guy sounds like he could very easily join the ranks of Mark Schlereth when it comes to reporting or analyzing the Ravens... Sure, Lewis didn't have the best athleticism in his older age, but what he lost there, he gained in wisdom and leadership ability, which are grossly underrated aspects to any football player's craft. With that being said, my list looks like this.

Overrated: Bart Scott

Underrated: JJ

don't get too caught up in it. I'm a raiders fan, all the articles about us are about how horrible we are. It's agonizing at first but just ignore it, they have no idea what they're talking about

Poorly written article. Seemed like it was written by a 9th grader for the school paper.

Ray was a 1st team all pro in '08, a 1st team all pro in '09, a 2nd team all pro in '10, and has a great 1st half in '11 all "within his last 5 years."

Some people are just very angry the Ravens (and Ray) won the SB that Ray went out on top.

This is comical. I mean sure, the Browns overrated Kruger, but they are the. only. ones. Everyone else either has never heard of the guy or doesn't rate him all that highly so his inclusion is ridiculous.

Listing Dilfer as overrated makes me wonder if the author is a football fan. This is a conversation that a vast number of fans have taken part in or heard: "Player X is great. He won the Superbowl." "Yeah? So did Trent Dilfer."

You cannot say that a guy like that is overrated.

Saying that Ed Reed is underrated really doesn't merit discussion, but I'm tempted to say that I disagree with the assessment about Ozzie Newsome. He (and the rest of the FO) are so widely respected that it's fairly rare to hear the talking heads criticize him for his absolute inability to draft receivers and quarterbacks. (Obviously, there have been some very recent [and very few] exceptions)

Ray Lewis is considered to be a top 5 defensive player of all time.  He is far from overrated.  His last few years he wasn't as good as he once was, but I would have put him on the field before any other LB.  The guy brought passion to the field and to the rest of the team.  Leadership is a rare trait.

You can tell the writer has no clue about much of the Ravens history.

To leave guys like Jarret Johnsoh, Kelly Gregg, Derrick Mason, Edwin Mulitalo, Corey Graham, etc. off of the underrated list is a joke.  The idea of being underrated is a player that has played very well, but never received much recognition.  I would never consider Ed Reed underrated.  He was given the respect within the game that he deserved.

And now onto the overrated list.  I agree with Kruger, but on the rest... really?  I'd argue that Michael Oher and Bernard Pollard may deserve a spot.

There is a lot of good other answers in this thread too.

this list is invalid as soon as he says "kruger is this years jarrett johnson, he left baltimore for a  big payday in san diego and only got 1.5 sacks"

that wasnt the exact quote, but ummm jarrett johnsons an elite LOLB, a ROLB needs a pass rush, a LOLB is more about being well rounded and physical enough to handle the mauling RT's that generally stay on the right side, while the technicians handle the pass rushing ROLBS over on the right side.. so his dead wrong analysis of jarrett johnson discredits this list

The fact that Lewis is on the list of overrated players discredits the whole list.

True story, lol!

But they get points back for stating the obvious by saying the 2000 defense is the Greatest of all-time. There you have, Bears fans!

Im just baffled at the idiotic article, I would love to ask this butt clown if he has even watched a ravens game outside of last years super bowl.  Ray lewis is not nor has he ever been overrated.  The man strikes fears with his hits and leads men on the battlefield with his words.  I guess guys like montana, favre, unitas, ditka, etc., were all overrated in there last 5 years.  The NFL continues to show how they really didnt want the ravens to win it all last year and like to pretend the 49er's roled us in a shut out.  God I hope we repeat just so they have to acknowledge us as a potential dynasty.

Ask Darren Sproles in SD if thats true? Dustin Keller in the season opener a few years back? 5 years? no. Last Year, yeah probably so. VD annihilated him in coverage but he does that to everyone. I didn't expect Ray to keep up with a TE that can run a 4.3

I agree about his leadership and abilities as a player, but I do think that he got far and away too much credit for the Ravens success. After his retirement, every single analyst declares the Ravens all but dead, just because we are missing Lewis inspirational leadership.

Ray Lewis was a great Ravens player and leader, but a lot of people make him out to be greater than the Ravens franchise and that would make him overrated.

Look back at his carreer as whole, and Ray Lewis is a top 5 defensive player of all time, no argument there. Look back at the previous couple seasons and Ray Lewis wouldn't even be the 3rd best player on the Ravens defense.

I think, the main problem here is, that people draw the conclusion, that Ray Lewis = Baltimore Ravens. While he was a really important player in the Ravens history, it is still a bit disrespectfull to the players, that played alongside of him.
