Joe Running The Ball

22 posts in this topic

Joe is a good QB but I would love to see him become a great one but I think if he keeps running with the ball someone is going to put the big hit on him its exciting to see him run but it could lead to a career end injury.

Meh, Joe only seems to run as a last, last resort. He's no Big Jen, running even on plays when he doesn't have to. Most of the game against Cinci Sunday, there were plenty of plays where it was obvious he couldn't find a spot to throw to a receiver, and he held the ball for as long as he could to find one..he had chances to run, but held his place and scrambled around behind the line. I don't think he's going to take unnecessary chances when running the football..most of the time that he does run, it's in the Ravens favor. Although I do remember once when he ran at the goal line, and got smashed..but he still scored the TD and bounced right back up. I think he's tougher then he looks.

Joe only runs the ball when he needs to. Thats a risk every QB needs to make. I know he shouldnt be put in that position but I'd much rather see him run the ball than take a sack or loss yardage. Harbs always says "PROTECT THE BALL" and thats what Flacco does.

Ironic how this was brought up, when a lot of Troy Smith supporters made the argument that they wanted a QB who could run. :P

Not implying anything here, of course. Just an interesting reminder of "good times" from a few months back...lol.

Well I think Joe has done more than prove he can run the ball as well as make 70 yard touchdown passes. REPEATEDLY.

thats wierd because i wish ben ran more, in the old days he would scramble out of the pocket and throw a long ball or just get 15 yards. this year he just falls over when people are even close to him........although against the patriots i saw a glimmer of old ben which i liked

That's because there's only so much abuse a man can take, before it starts affecting his mental stamina. Ben's not getting any younger, but the hits keep piling up. The Steelers better address their OL this year, that is their weak link.

your right, although the o-line has been better recently, in the last three games ben has only thrown one int and been sacked like 3 times...which is a huge improvement

Joe is smart with the ball he gets out of bounds when he needs to or slides. He is not going to let some one lay him out unless it is necessary to help the team win. I think Joe's mobility shows all of those

Troy Smith fans that say we need Troy in because he can scramble, that he can do it all.

Flacco has that sneaky speed! Teams look at him and they are like this guy can not run on us! Then he is down field for a first down quickly! :o

I certainly couldn't outrun Joe Flacco if I tried.

(And come to think of it, I could've tried, if only I had snuck into that Pro Day workout...)

Didn't Joe run in the 4.6 range?

Flacco ran a 4.78 40 and a 6.82 Cone Drill. I think the Cone Drill was the fastest for QB's. As far as the 40 time goes, if you think about it running the 40 can be over rated. Most guy that play football do not run track, there are some that do but not most. So if you are used to getting in to the running stance and the start it will slow your time!

Flacco usually gets out of bounds before he gets hit or slides. He also only usually scrambles when it's necessary. I dont think it's a matter we need to be too worried about. *Knocks on wood*

Well, you also leave out the fact that the youngest offensive line in the NFL looked horrendous during the preseason. So, the assumption was that whoever was back there would be running for their lives all game. And if thats the case it makes sense to have the more naturally athletic guy back there. Right?

Yeah - Thank God he has his age on his side. He's a big, strong kid that has shown he can take a hit and get right back on his feet. I really get nervous when we line him up as a receiver. He could really get hurt playing that position against a strong D.

Any quarter back without a seasoned line should be able to scramble. He'd get smashed just as bad if he stayed in the pocket.

Flacco looks pretty solid. He hasn't shown a single second of pain all season long that I remember.

What I like is that Cam and Harbaugh are talking about adding 15-20 lbs. of muscle to his frame over the next year(s). He'll still be able to move decently and be able to shrug off pass rushers.
