Should we pick up Desmond Bishop?

Really liked this guy last year and is reportedly going to be cut by packers. Might be a good dog to join the mlb fight

Watch him SOMEHOW make his way there... I swear to god lol

I'm actually  more concerned of Yao than 5SB. Yao spent 30 minutes bragging how SF got Kassim Osgood...

The more talent you have at camp, the better the team. At least we know that those who made it with the 53 earned it due to the competition. Some teams don't even have competition due to lack of talent. Hoarding is part of the game.

If you're an NFL player do you choose the team that guarantees you a starting job and offers more money, or the team that has little money to offer and you have to win the job

To rephrase Ozzie's line

"You can never have too many ILBs".

A fair point, but I have two to make.

Firstly, We have four starting capable ILBs in Daryl Smith, Albert McClellan, Jameel McClain, and Arthur Brown. We have a lot of depth behind them.  ILBs are also quite easy to find. Bishop would be overkill.

Secondly, if Green Bay's FO thinks that talent starved defense will be okay without Bishop, why would we want him? That defense is sorry, and for him to be on the chopping block makes me wonder if he's worth it.

If we bring him in, I won't have a problem with it. I just don't see a point.

Yeah, I'm with The Raven.  I'm completely fine with bringing him in, but I don't see a point.  We already have Smith, McClain, Brown, Bynes, McClellan, Carr, Hall, and Copeland at ILB.  I don't see Bishop being a major upgrade over any of the top guys on that list.  If we're going to spend money, I'd rather us use it at a position that lacks some depth.

I don't see it happening unless Jameel is not ready for camp and in that case he may have already signed with someone by then. Daryl Smith was a very underrated pickup, I think with him, Arthur Brown, Albert McClellan, Josh Bynes, and a healthy Jameel our team will be set at ILB. Hall and Carr could also wind up being contributors so I'll just echo what has been said by others: I wouldn't care to bring him in, I just don't see the big need.

Another thing, if we were to sign him, he would take away reps from young players like Carr and Bynes, impeding their development.

We just signed Daryl Smith who fills the same role as a veteran who can play ILB, we don't want to fill our roster with guys and keep our young guys from getting a chance to get on the field until they prove they can't handle it.

I wouldn't be against bringing Bishop here. I'm not sure I would trade for him but if he's cut I can't see much harm if he chose to come here.

I would love Bishop on this team. He would be our best LB if healthy. The problem is he likely wont come cheap considering he doesnt want to take a paycut in GB. I would cut Jameel for him in a heartbeat.

I wouldnt cut Jameel (only because we don't have that many bodies at the position and with injuries who knows), but Id like to bring him in on a small deal.

However, I want to get either Smith or Pitta extended so we can get through next year's cap situation and dont want bishop here if it hurts that end any.

Starting capable, yes.  However, I think all four of those names are hurt.  Who knows when any of them will be 100%?  Bringing in another guy makes a lot of sense.  Plus, he has a lot of talent, more than most of the guys we already have.  I agree we might not really need him, but I definitely see the point and logic in bringing him in for camp and seeing what happens.  He wouldn't just be more depth.

Except Desmond Bishop is also hurt after spending all last year on IR.  He recently said he was hoping to be ready for the start of camp.

Cutting Jameel to bring in Bishop doesnt change the number of bodies at ILB, just an upgrade in talent.

He recently said he was 100%

Yeah I got that confused with someone else, going to correct that now.

I know he's hurt.  What I was saying was that bringing him in would increase our odds that someone would be healthy earlier.  If you have no sure thing, then you might as well buy as many lottery tickets as you can to see if one pays out the way you would like it to.  Again, I'm not saying we should definitely pursue him.  I just understand why we would.

It doesn't increase our odds any.  It just adds another body that may or may not be healthy.  I also disagree with the lottery ticket analogy.  We're in a tight cap situation.  If all of our injured players come back healthy, then it's just wasted money that could have been saved or better used at another position that lacks depth.

I wouldn't have a problem at all if we did pursue Bishop, but I just disagree with your reasoning as to why.

Cutting Jameel to bring in Bishop doesnt change the number of bodies at ILB, just an upgrade in talent.

While it may not change the overall # of bodies, we aren't in a position at ilb where we can afford an injury or something to miss as we have a very limited # of bodies. Bringing in Bishop and cutting McClain still leaves us very vulnerable at the position to an injury or something like that. So id rather have him as an extra body rather than a replacement body.
