Breakout Sophomores

21 posts in this topic

Last years rookie class was extremely exciting, particularly at the QB position.

Just curious on what second year players you think will breakout or take their game to another level.

Here are my picks

Janoris Jenkins: I became a huge fan of him over the course of his rookie year. He was one of the most fun to watch defensive players of 2012. Now I know by most people's standards he already broke out, but I feel like his ceiling has yet to be fully reached. I think his Defensive TDs will definitely go down, but his Ints will go up. With another year of coaching and refinement he should be a damn good player for years to come.

Kelechi Osemele: KO's playoff performance alone justifies why he should be good (probably Elite ;)) at guard next year. With him its just a natural position.

So, who are your breakout second year players?

Brian Quick

Going to be interesting to see how he fits in with Austin and Bailey. The Rams are quietly loaded.

LOL, but I do root for them though. I hate the 49ers and hope the Rams dominate them next year.

Zach Brown, LB, Tennessee - mainly because I picked him in the draft game, but he is a stud and developed quicker then expected

Dre Kirkpatrick, CB - Is an interesting one as it is basically his rookie year with the injury and playing on a loaded Bengal front with great size may help alot and allow for some good play..kinda a wild card

Dwayne Allen, TE - I think he could hit 800+ yard kinda year and is a huge asset as a blocker too

I must say the Ravens have some players who could really shine as sophomores with KO, Pierce, Gradkowski and Upshaw

Depending on how you term "breakout", I have three to consider. One, as stated many times above, Osemele. His best position is LG, and I see him actually becoming a better version of Grubbs, but that's just me. Maybe that doesn't happen this year, but it'll happen in the future. Look out for it. Two, again depending on your definition of breaking out, I'd look for Russell Wilson to continue his amazing progress. I see that offense going to his hands now, and with Harvin/another year of experience, I see him joining the upper echelon of Qb's in time this season, if he's not already there. Three, look out for Floyd. With Palmer (who I know isn't great by any means, but he's better than Jack or Joe from the streets), and with Fitzy still on the opposite side, look out.

My list:

- Mark Barron: With all the secondary improvements in Tampa, he may get more interceptions with teams wanting to avoid Revis.

-  Luke Kuechly: I know he had a great season last year but I think he is going to better this year.

- David DeCastro: If he doesn't get injured and is healthy, watch out. He will instantly improve their OL.

- KO: With McKinnie back, Oher stays on the right side and KO can lock down the Left Guard spot and be a Pro Bowl Guard

- Kirk Cousins: I know this all depends on whether RG3 can stay healthy but something tells me, Cousins will get some playing time in and be able to turn it into a high draft pick for the Redskins and be a starter in 2014.
