Josh Gordon suspension

32 posts in this topic

This suspension makes absolutely no sense to me.

He's saying he had a prescription from a doctor for codeine cough syrup, which is standard of care for strep throat.

Why is that any more of an issue than a player who has a script for, say, anti-anxiety meds or adderal?  or any player having surgery who goes home with a script for pain meds?

I don't get it.

Key words: he says.

NFL doesn't release exactly what it was for. Players or agents can say whatever they want. Players can notify the NFL of prescription meds ahead of time in order not to be punished.

The bottom scroller thing (whatever it's called) on NFL says he took antibiotics containing codeine in February.

I am not a pharmacist or a pharmacy tech, but I do know a great deal about prescription medications, and I cannot think of a single antibiotic that actually contains codeine. So yeah... NFL reporting fail.

Also, how long does it take to get results of a drug test and, if failed, figure out a suspension? Because if this was recent, there's almost no way that cough syrup containing codeine would still be in his system as late as May.

There actually is an antibiotic with codeine. It is (or used to be, anyway) prescribed for people who tend to up-chuck antibiotics. I know this because an idiot doctor nearly killed me with it some years ago. I'm violently allergic to codeine.

Oh hey, me too!! Luckily, I was in the hospital after surgery when I was given Tylenol 3 so I was mostly safe.

Do you remember the name of this antibiotic? I've never heard of this...

He really performed so well last year for the Browns. It sucks he has to be suspended two games over something like this. If he really did have a strep throat than he should attempt to get this overruled.

the NFl didn't fail in anything. The report was based of what Gordon said, he's hardly going to say he took steroids now Is he?

I thinks it's more likely he fail a drug test for weed and the codeine excuse is just that, an excuse for PR purposes.

yea that's the point. He's not going to say what it really was for, and even if he does no one will believe him

No, too many years ago. Now I ask the pharmacist with every prescription, no matter what it is.

I thought I saw in the article that that's why they made it 2 not 4. Sounds like they are giving him a "break" based on his word already

Eh, it's only two games. I don't think this is that big of a deal. He'll be back when we play them. That's all that matters to me.

If Gordon gets suspended for one year then Browns are screwed. He is their onlly source of offense in the passing game

second time around, when we go visiting - he'll miss the opening ceremony for our boys

while he's not the only one, he's the main threat and it will be easier to minimise their other options.

Josh Gordon not playing against us in week 2 is huge since they lost one of their best weapons. I think the game plan for that game is just stack the box against Trent Richardson since they don't have a lot of offensive weapons.

I say it's a nice break for our home opener.

I presume he's using "purple drank" and they figured out what he's up to, yes yes?

The Browns are worried about Josh Gordon. It was said Gordon was celebrating with Lebron after the Heat won the championship and they say something happened to Gordon.

According to Grossi’s reporting, “something happened to Gordon” after his rookie season, and he “was influenced by the wrong people.”

Then Former Browns Center LeCharles Bentley went off on Gordon...

“YOU’RE suspended, YOU let YOUR team down but it’s a priority to party with guys WAY out of your tax bracket,” Bentley wrote. “I’d cut you, resign you, cut you again, resign you, then bench you.”

He was probably just mad that he wasn't there... I don't think anythings wrong with Gordon celebrating with LeBron. It's just brought up because of the whole LeBron-Cleveland situation.

I bet a lot of Browns fans want him out now lol
