Ravens release then re-sign FB Vonta Leach

Aren't they 3.5mil under the cap already? If so, why would they clear even more space?

I hope at least this time, the Ravens don't just trade him for a low pick and at least get something high for him. If the Vikings were smart, they would trade for Leach and help AP get those extra nine yards this year.

Not sure how many teams would be willing to take on that salary cap number though. Would rather get a low pick than cut him and get nothing.

That's what I thought, we should have been under the cap.

Dennis Pitta, Arthur Jones, probably Michael Oher. That's your answer. lol. We want to try to get them locked up now before next offseason hits and they potentially leave.

He's my favorite player. :( The release is understandable considering how much Leach costs and where the game of football is at right now, but still...it's a sad day for me.

Man....I never seen this type of off-season happening....

Ravens are indeed wanting to get younger and so it just happens to be this year.

Also, 3.5M isn't enough cap space. That is only accounting for top 51 salaries. Once the season starts the cap includes 53 roster spots + PS which is roughly 3M by itself. Its also necessary to keep 1-2M in cap space in case of injury because IRed players still against the cap and somebody needs to fill that roster spot.

Ray Rice was a monster before Leach.

With L Train in front of him how is a good fb in his own right. Juice will have to get stronger in a hurry

What I was saying was Rice did work before he had a strong FB in front of him

Not just that but I'm pretty sure unused cap space rolls over now. We could be thinking ahead to next year.

I saw in a comment on PFT that Ray Rice actually had a higher YPC with just him in the backfield than with Leach in front of him.  I'm not sure if this is true, and I don't care enough to actually look it up, but it's definitely interesting.

That makes sense. Rice is probably a better receiver than a pure runner so with Leach in there it sort of tips our hand.

When will veterans learn. Does leech actually think he will get more than whatever the Ravens are offering in the open market? Look at what happened with James Harrison. I guarantee you he wishes he took the restructure offer from the Steelers.

Leach is a FB. A dying breed. And while he's very good at it, he isn't worth anything but a low round pick

If we do a package deal. Then we might be able to get some talent. But that's very unlikely

That is just sad, used to always love building a team on Madden around a running game with a great Full Back who can open up running lanes. Maybe one day FB will be a needed position again.

Everything makes a full circle and comes back.

I think the writing was on the wall when this happened.

There just aren't enough 44's to go around.

Lol

....and damn, this sucks. Thanks, Vonte.

Could be their stupid agents who over price their clients and only think of themselves, I mean think about it. If a player restructures, the agent loses money so of course he will do everything in his power to make a player think that a restructure is not worth it, even if it means losing a chance at another ring.

Words cannot describe how upset I am about this. Leach was my boy. I always loved seeing him absolutely tear apart linebackers and linemen alike. I loved his attitude and tenacity, and his drive to be the best. I will always remember him pretty much knocking Patrick Willis out for the count when he ran up against him in the 49ers-Ravens game during Thanksgiving two years back. Leach got back up looking to go fight someone, while Willis had to sit down and change his helmet because it was demolished. He played like a true Raven. I am extremely sad about this...

Wow, another solid player gone. Looks like if you're over 30 and don't want to reconstruct, then you're gone. Suggs and Ngata are next.
