Ravens interested in JaMarcus Russell?

55 posts in this topic

This pictured surfaced of Russell today, taken very recently.  Looks a lot thinner than he did even in his playing days.  Definitely shows some serious dedication to transform this much so far.

Any more news on when he'll work out with us?? Or is it just a rumor?

Just a rumor as of now.  I wouldn't be surprised if he comes in at some point, though.

Thanks! Looks promising. He seems like he's really taking this time around serious, and you have to know that Garcia and Faulk working with him is helping him at least in a small amount.

Sounds like this was something his agent floated to try and draw interest for him.

After all, we're the defending champs, so if the other teams are told that we're interested in him, that might make them think they should be interested too.

He wants to be a backup. I'd be all for signing him. Either he doesn't make the roster or he does, and can become trade bait down the road.

If he could be traded, why isn't anyone else snatching him up to use him? What can we do to highlight his tradablity? I doubt that he would see much field time, with our multi-million dollar MVP there.

The Ravens have always been noted for depth. And Tyrod is capable. Don't take his performance against Cinci for who he is. Let's remember that the Bengals were playing there starters but that Tyrod didn't have most of his. It was our backups vs. the Bengals starters.

Bringing him in wouldn't hurt, but it's also not nescessary.

and Tyrod was sitting on the bench "cold" the entire game before coming in.  imo Tyrod is very capable and i would hope that the Ravens would be the team to benefit from his skills and talents and not some other team!

I think one of our strengths as an organisation is that we have a very open mind, and from Steve to Ozzie on down we promote our personnel and coaching staff to promote an open minded thinking atmosphere. At the same time, people are both encouraged to speak their mind and argue what they're thinking, and they're also open to get criticized about it in any which way. It's sort of like open discourse, which is great because communication is the great facilitator of improvement and ideas.

And I think this is just us keeping an open mind about bringing Ja in to be a camp body. If he has the work ethic and the drive to fit in this very competitive team: then by all means. I strongly believe that people can and do change.

I hate to say it, but people do NOT change , they only learn to either control there problems or hide them very well. Russell was never a NFL Player, vastly over rated coming out of college, if al davis dont draft him he falls to 2nd, 3rd or later rounds, if i remember correctly not one other team had him a first round talent. Ravens shouldnt touch him or even consider him, he is a bust and always will be one.

Low down bum?
Wow. That's some pretty intense words.
Have you met the guy?
What qualifies you to make such an assessment of his character?

I thought he was being nice calling him a low down bum, and he is as qualified as you to make character assessments, Russell is never going to be in a raven uniform, until Ozzie comes out and sayd there interested it is just russell's agent throwing out team names, russell is an all time bust, he will never play a down in the league again

He was literally the highest rated player on the Ravens board.

I wholeheartedly disagree with that. People's personalities change over time, it is normal...it is unusual if it doesn't. Maybe JaMarcus is finally starting to grow up

Oh that's good to know. I guess we should just give up on the justice system because all criminals will be always criminals. Might as well give up on alcoholism as well with that mentality.

If Russell wants to be part of the NFL, he could do it in this way. Workers clean up the stadium after a game going through each row of seats, row-by-row picking up trash and contraband. Russell could participate in this, get a paycheck, and once again feel part of the team.

Well I would saying learninv to control your problems is change. Ray lewis obviously decided to stop associating with thugs after the shooting. Suggs used to be incapable of controling his emotions and lost us games on penalties. Now he has channeled that emotion positively and is our team leader. That is change.

As for russel he was very highly rated coming out of college.

I can't agree with this at all Mike.

People can and do change. Happens all the time

We risk nothing but upsetting our backup. If he's legit option we can have a look and cut him at seasons start. If he's better than Tyrod (doubtful) we have trade bait (Tyrod or Russell).

I doubt it happens but I think Ozzie is taking calls on all sorts of guys. If it fits into place maybe but it's prolly not the best fit for either party.

I don't want Jamarcus either, but people don't change? Huh? You don't think people learn from their mistakes and change their ways?

I hate to use this example, but after everything that happened in 2001 with Ray, he learned who he needed to stay away from and found God. He changed.

How about even over to baseball, with Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton (who was a drug addict) went to rehab, and got clean. He changed. And i'm sure there is plenty of other cases around sports that have occured.

Jamarcus got himself back into shape, losing 50 pounds, "changing" his lifestyle. I really don't want him either, like i said, but if we for some reason bring him in as a camp body, than cool.

I wouldn't hate us bringing Russell here. I've warmed up to the idea. I doubt it happens.

We brought in Curtis painter last year so I see no issues with Jamarcus for preseason.
Remember during preseason last year they had painter try to stretch the field it helps evaluate players for the same type of plays the first team would run. The arm strength of Jamarcus would agai alow us to run similar plays. He is still fairly young and if enough hype is generated preseason maybe he can be trade bait
